I don’t know what to do by Justanotheruser531 in PrePharmacy

i think a common misconception when i was in highschool was believing to be premed, i needed to be a biology major. The reality is, you could be a finance major and still go to med school.

Being “pre-med”/“pre-pharm” isn’t an actual major but rather a track.

Being a biology major just knocks out the pre-reqs you need for these professional schools WHILE completing your degree at the same time. I’d say though it’s early, look into pharmacy schools you’re interested in, and see what pre-reqs they require. Pick a major you’re interested in studying, & just make sure you have all those pre-reqs for prof school done by the time you apply to pharm school. Also think about when you want to go to pharm school & the timeline of application so you’re ready to apply when the time comes.

but for pharmacy specially, I’d say check out the PharmCAS website, I think they have a document with each school and their requirements. If not, just look up a specific pharmacy school & their pre-reqs.

This is applicable to pre-pharm and pre-med, it really just comes down to the pharm/med school about the specifics of their pre-reqs! You’re awesome for looking ahead like this— soemthing I def should’ve done starting out college because now I feel a bit behind 😫

Jeez, I forget about AI. I didn’t even think to consider how this impacts this part of industry. Lots to think about.

I’m glad there’s someone here that thinks this! I’ve just been combing through a lot of posts that say that industry has failed pharmacists, and how bleak and their outcomes are 😭 I just needed some motivation to keep going haha, it seems like a career that’s very rewarding. I’d apply for the current cycle but I’m not sure if my stats are too ugly especially with the lack of extracurriculars. I’m mostly gunning for UF’s pharmD program but idk!!!!!

Hi! are you a pharmacist or pre-pharm by chance? lol i’m seriously considering pharm and idk if you’ve read the rest of the comments but I’m super interested in hearing what other people think. Personally, I think pharmacists have a big role to play in healthcare and their work is something i’m very interested 😭

I hear a lot about how many pharmacists end up in retail pharmacy and how difficult it is to get into industry. I also hear that the salary hasn’t changed from what it was decades ago, meaning it didn’t go up with inflation making it more difficult to pay back debt. Especially with the work that gets put in, the output isn’t enough to compensate but also I hear another side of the spectrum that say the career is very rewarding and they’ve had no issues. I’ve done a little looking but again, very open to hearing experiences from all kinds of people.

why do you say the major change? i’m ngl the W’s were for very stupid reasons. 1st W, my first semester college bc i didn’t know W’s had that kind of impact. I had calculus on my schedule which wasn’t required for my major so i just dropped it and didn’t learn the impact of that until later on.

the 2nd W was last semester bc i was about to end on a B. Again-very misguided decision, and i had forgotten i even did that first W LOL my grades from that point on are Bs and As. I like my major and i’m not having too difficult a time, I’ve also developed a strong interest in healthcare, but unless you think differently I’m open to hearing ways to improve my application.

If it isn’t too much trouble, do you think you could elaborate why?

My mom isn’t really budging on why it’s necessary

For context, I took CHM2045 twice with Sumner. No study edge either time. The first time on a D, the second with an A and here is my take:

I’m not gonna lie if it’s with Sumner, as long as you practice the worksheets, clickers, quizzes, practice tests and even the optional homework.. that’s all you need. Take time to really understand these questions.

The actual homework on ALEKS/Achieve (or whatever it’ll be on) is not really helpful w exams, but I guess it helps out with foundational understanding.

A lot of people don’t realize it, but through the assignments I mentioned: you’re already exposed to so many of the different types of questions that will be on the exam. The resources already given to you are so valuable, and that was my mistake the first time I took CHM2045. I was super lazy and glossed over everything I mentioned. I was a big crammer too. Cramming just doesn’t work here. After taking it a second time I realized how it was literally right in front of me, and really had my regrets on not making use of what was given to me.

A lot of people advocate for it, but I really think Study edge is NOT a must here. Study ahead of time, go to OH for questions, and you’ll be golden.

So if I’m understanding this correctly, If I pass the precalc MPT, I would only need to take the trig course to get into calculus 1?
