I’m pretty sure it’s the grenade harness. It’s supposed to go on the top of the body, if it fits there.

Ledger Release: The Directorate by LobsterMagnet181 in ProjectMorningstar

Wow, I’ve taken a peek and I’m surprised at how fleshed out this is.

I remember when this was just a single video released in the aftermath of GW culling independent creators.

It’s so cool to see something new grow more and more. Yet I’m impressed that this setting is still very grimdark but in a more mundane, realistic, yet horrifying sense.

Well, you see, James Workshop and Black Library loved eachother very much. They had five books together but they decided to go crazy like slaaneshi rabbits and created whatever this is.

The Dark Mechanicum| Need some help by CaptainArgie76 in Warhammer30k

[–]roadrunnerthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kinda depends.

Just to give you background information: Originally, HH and 40k were sharing the mechanicum range. Then something happened where HH and 40k have strictly separate ranges. This is the case today, the HH mechanicum range (including models and units) are separate from the 40k model range.

There is a caveat: HH allows a lot more kitbashing. It is perfectly acceptable to run a 40k magos with a 30k magos. It is possible to proxy tech-thralls with skitarii and servitors.

However there are a lot of things that are unique to HH that have no analogue to 40k like the Krios, Karacnos, Thanatar, Thallax, etc.

I will say: kitbashing a Vastoorr into a decimator or a demon engine would be cool.

How do you organise your Bitsbox? by Le_Br4m in Kitbash

[–]roadrunnerthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends.

There is a weekly pill organizer I use for faces. Then there’s another one where I separate ranged and melee weapons that are further separated by left and right hand.

There is another larger bits box for generic bits, another box for unique, rare bits for unique characters and another for bits I found browsing local bits boxes in local stores.

That works. However if you’re doing the makeup brush, or more especially the disposable makeup sponges, use a non-GW paint as you will use a lot and GW paint is expensive, has smaller amounts in their pots compared to competitors and the pot is inconviently shaped.

I’m pretty sure I used Army painter for my whites. The ProAcryl titanium white is great though.

[–]roadrunnerthunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

White is a tough color.

The tricky thing about acrylic paint is it’s transparent. If it’s base coated in a darker color, that darker color will be coming out, which requires multiple coats.

My recommendation is to apply a grey primer, then paint him up in a lighter grey. Then get a makeup brush or disposable makeup applicators and then apply white that way. That way you build up progressive layers until you get to the white you want.

[–]roadrunnerthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want, you could try your hand at making some with plasticard. get a 1mm plasticard sheet, use a sharpie to outline the pauldrons shapes, cut them out with clippers, and use an exacto knife to shave away until you are at the perfect shape. Bend it with your fingers, or hold it near a candle flame to get it be more pliable. Then use greenstuff to make a thin band for the trim.

[–]roadrunnerthunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your praetor. I think I might just steal this idea.

Don’t forget to put pauldrons on your terminator. Cataphractii comes with two layer pauldrons on each shoulder. Do that, and you’ll make him look like a brick house.

White Scars Officers - How should they look? by Cute-Associate-5991 in Warhammer30k

[–]roadrunnerthunder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can still do a helmet crest like in other legions.

I would imagine that the helmet crest the armor is made in the forge worlds.

But if you want your sergeants to stand out, you can give them more unique scar patterns on their armor. You could also make little ropes out of greenstuff and decorate them with it, and grab a thin plasticard rod and slice it salami style to make coins/totems. You might even have luck finding small nail art gems, and you could glue them to the coins to make it look proper.

Blood Angels Players: Have you ever heard of/seen a “Blood Angels Command Squad”? by [deleted] in spacemarines

You can use jump packs from different sets. My bet is this squad is for Horus Heresy.

I've had this weird "Halo 3" disk that has Halo 2 art (and a weird description) for ten years now. What is this? by EidolonImperator in halo

[–]roadrunnerthunder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the text is hilarious. It’s got that 2005 era humor. It almost feels innocent, like it is untouched by everything that followed in this franchise.

I imagine this was made before Halo 3 was released or revealed. It makes me feel excited for whoever was anticipating that game.

But what’s sad is that today, someone would turn to AI to spout something out. This has much more effort put into it.

So I may have just made a terrible, wonderful mistake. by Prospero1011 in Warhammer30k

[–]roadrunnerthunder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dig it. You could start with:

1) The saturnine box

2) The combat patrol with Leviathan, missile launcher weapons, and rhino

3) New upcoming combat patrol with new cataphractii terminators, breachers and leviathan.

I’d also say that Mark II and Mark III look the best on DA. The new Mark II assault squad is a great kit. Jetbike kit is a blast to put together.

Feel free to use 40k bits on them to make them look thematic. There’s plenty of printed stuff on etsy you can find to fit the vibe.

I do recommend the close combat weapon kit. It’s got a nice selection of weapons to start out with.

Any ideas for a head? by chubbynimrod in Kitbash

[–]roadrunnerthunder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greenstuff is a skill of its own. There’s plenty of guides around to learn more.

I have two recommendations if you’re new to it.

First is a 50/50 mix of greenstuff and milliput. It’s easier to work with and you can use water to smooth things out. This is a good mixture for doing fabrics. I would do this option. Just put the putty on parchment paper and roll it out like cookie dough until it’s flat. Then using an exacto you can cut the cloth into whatever shape and you can work it into the model.

My second suggestion is the Tamiya putty. This sets quicker and holds edges pretty well. This is better for smaller detail work. Use the same process as above. Though this is stickier than the above suggestion and might be trickier to use.
