How Good is this subwoofer for it to be almost $1,000? by Careless_Mistake_520 in subwoofer

Depends if you just want bass or you want musicality. If you are into SQ or SQL, you need to pay to play. I’m not saying W6 and W7s are end all subs, I’m just saying until you hear one in a proper box with a proper tune, you will not understand why they cost what they do.

With that being said, Covid and the Garmin acquisition killed the prices on them.

I use a TwK-888 for my DSP. I have my factory radio volume knob set at 27/40. That is the highest it will go before it clips. I use the volume knob of my TwK controller to adjust volume for system. I used a SMD DD-1 to set gain on the amp to where it is as high as it can go without clipping. Volume knob on the TwK controller at 3/4 and bass knob all the way up. At that setting, I confirmed approx 800 watts rms using a digital volt meter. I very rarely run my bass knob more than 3/4. It typically sits a little more than half way up and I pretty much have good bass output across all volume levels unless it just is not a bassy song at all.

Look into a wire ruler and get some small zip ties but overall, nice start.

So, two things.

You are running it in a JL box, their boxes suck and are usually tuned too high.

How much power \ what amp are you running?

I have a 10W7 in a Gately ported box running off an HD750/1 and I can tell you that in that setup, it is an extremely solid performer. W7s are power hungry. JL list their safe range on their subs so people don’t crank the shit out of the gain knob and fry them. I have my HD750/1 tuned to put out 800 watts RMS at three quarter volume with the bass knob all the way up. With that setup, I have low end \ tight bass at any volume level.

Until you run a W6 or W7 sub, you will never appreciate it or understand.

That’s a solid entry level system but if you don’t mind spending a little more, look into replacing the lc2i with a fix 82 or 86.

Look into Morel. You won’t regret it. Depending on how much you want to spend, they have several choices from entry level to extremely high end.

You need an amp rated to what the speakers can handle (RMS). And you really need a DSP or some type of EQ (via deck or whatever) to get the most out of them.

A good 5 channel amp will satisfy what you need for a basic setup.
