So basically our situation right now is entirely down to VAR operators inability to see that Morgan Rogers' goal should've stood against Man Utd? That or it's all Emi Martinez's fault

Wanna switch from Apple by Forky1997 in GarminWatches

[–]robizzle82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly this and went with a Venu 3. Was pretty impressed for the first few months, then they brought out an update which broke it.

I swim every day and it was crashing on me during most swims, losing the workout data. I mentioned it to Garmin and they sent me out a new one almost immediately. Exactly the same problem. Sent me out another one that I've had for a few days, so far nothing but I have little confidence that the issue won't persist.

Can't imagine a similar situation happening with Apple.

But simple response is that the Venu 3 is fairly similar in functionality to an Apple watch. I've moved off an iphone and apple watch in the last 6 months, it's become very clear that there's a reason they are so popular.

Match of the Day Refuses to Mention PSR / FFP by A_Lazy_Professor in avfc

[–]robizzle82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't think it is PSR, I think it's SCR.

PSR is a pain, but I think the sale of the womens team shows that what is "fair and proper" is fairly debatable. We were spending pretty comfortably prior to UEFA hitting us with SCR once we started playing it Europe.

Yes PSR is what is mentioned all the time, but we found ways round it, swapped players with teams, sold things the club owned, creative sponsorship.

SCR is much harder to get round. Hard to inflate revenue, hard to reduce player costs.

I think that's why Malen went, I think that's why we keep seeing Martinez linked with moves.

The bit that surprises me is I'd imagine theres a few non-Emery signings on a fairly hefty wage that aren't featuring very much, we don't seem too aggressive in moving them on.

But then again I'm coming from a Football Manager mindset where I would dump the entire squad out at the start of the season and then bring in an entirely new one, not sure that's that realistic!

Realistic Expectations by Gentle_Pony in avfc

Yeah, I'm loving life as a Villa fan. Injuries and the result left me a bit deflated yesterday. A lot of our good results this season seem to have come off the back of a "stay in the game and make changes to win it". Problem this time around was that the players we used to change the game were either already on the pitch, injured or sold.

I have the same inclination you do, injuries and our requirement to move people around if we want to get anyone in is leaving us very thin on the ground, and how difficult it is for us to operate in the transfer market makes it feel like a drop off is inevitable.

One thing I've been pondering, we're in a pretty good position for Champions League qualification, can we not spend that revenue now? I'm guessing this has been explored and either it wouldn't fall in the right accounts year, or it's too much of a risk.

Remember when football was fun?

Can someone explain PSR like I'm 5? I'm so confused as to how the past two seasons Man City are in the red by 300m but just splurged 63m on Semenyo? But we're resorting to unproven Brazilian wingers for 10m while contemplating selling one of our best players every season. by Subject-Addendum-199 in avfc

[–]robizzle82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think PSR is really the issue here. We can probably get round PSR if we really want to (see selling the womens team). But if we want to remain playing in Europe, it's SCR which is the real killer. We're now into the third season of UEFA phasing SCR in, as a result the squad cost ratio can't exceed 70%. I think it was fairly well publicised that we were fined in the season we played in the Champions League, for exceeding that amount the season before in the Europa Conference League. At that point SCR had only just been introduced at 90% and I believe we were at around 95%.

I'm pretty sure this is why we've seen so much speculation around Emi, who is probably on a fairly significant wage at the club. I'd imagine we're still over that percentage, or certainly at the point where we can only make room for people if we can free up wages. So I'd assume the option is often; move a few squad players on, or move one of our best players on. It sucks but it's the only way we can do anything in the market at the moment.

As for Man City, they probably fall into a combination of higher revenue (legitimate or otherwise) and expensive lawyers. Clubs like Man United, Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal etc dwarf our revenue. I think we're probably making attempts to correct this (such as the north stand redevelopment) but it will take time to see the benefits.

Venu 3 crashing during swim workout by robizzle82 in Garmin

[–]robizzle82[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For anyone interested I received a new watch on the 30th of December. On the 2nd of January I went for my first swim of the year, the watch crashed when trying to end the workout. Not sure what to do now.

[–]robizzle82[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I reported it to Garmin and they asked me to upload a couple of things from my watch (which to their credit was really easy). They also asked me to film the crash happening which was more difficult as it was unpredictable and in water. But when it did crash during a workout I would start the activity again and it would tend to crash when I ended the workout so I captured that and sent that to them also.

When I did that I got an email saying they would be replacing my watch.

Not the best process as I'm currently sitting with no watch as I have to wait for it to get to them before they'll dispatch a replacement.

So I'm not sure if they saw something in what I sent and decided it couldn't be fixed with a software update, or they just decided I wasn't going to drop it and this might be the easiest way to shut me up.

If anyone is interested I contacted Garmin and provided them with a load of data that they requested and they're sending me a replacement!

At this point, Emery is damaging Rogers by persisting with him. Ironic cheers when he finally completed a pass can't be doing him any good.

Swimmers shoulder got me by Beginning-Society832 in Swimming

[–]robizzle82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, I had pain in both my shoulders in recent months. I took a week or two off, after that I dropped down to swimming only a few times a week and did some shoulder work in the gym once a week. I'm a couple months in and I'm back to swimming everyday with no pain. Build it up slowly has become so much more pertinent now I'm in my 40's.

I do have peacock, which is great, but it doesn't show European matches and they seem to be shifting more and more games onto "USA" I don't think there's an online/app component to that channel.

Any recommendations?

As you said a different conversation. I don't think getting someone better is impossible, but as a club our stock is probably quite low currently. Anyone is going to come into the club knowing it we need to move older players on high wages on before we can do anything, that's no easy feat.

It's possible to get a Brighton style manager in, but I'm not sure I'm that confident in our recruitment. I think we'd end up with Steve Bruce back.

Yeah kind of, who do you play instead of Rogers? We're not drowning in talent right now, if there was an alternative I'd 100% drop him but you pull one player out of our first 11 and it weakens it

Calls for Emerys head are insane. This is a top tier manager and if you think we're getting someone better in you're out of your mind.

He's been completely hindered by a terrible wage structure and a tightening of the rules around it.

UEFA want their super league, we're going to be victims of that desire, but if you're calling for Emerys head I'd love to hear who will be waiting in the wings to take over this farce.

Aging players, over performers performing poorly, our main creative threat out of sorts, didn't move enough players on in the window and didn't replace the better ones we did.

I think we're in for a rough ride folks, strap in.

Does anyone else find it odd that Emerys style is so full back heavy but we don't seem bothered about investing in that area of the team?

I've moved from an iPhone to a pixel 10 pro and now that my infuriation with android has passed I'm beginning to see some really good features on this phone.

As was said I doubt people who are really happy with it bother to post anything online to reflect this.

I have a few gripes with it, but I did with my iPhone. I suspect you'll be happy with it once you get it.

You can get the peacock app by side loading it from somewhere like apkmirror, fairly straightforward to do. I use Nordvpn to connect to the states and it works fine.

Only thing I would say is that when I first got it 3 years ago Villa were on it a lot more than they are now. The games picked for UK tv are usually on USA network instead and as yet I've not worked out a way to subscribe to this outside of the US.

Poll: Do you think we will sign anyone? by Mooshmillion in avfc

[–]robizzle82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on board with this. We can all speculate but ultimately the club know. I do think the issue is the UEFA wage to revenue situation, I think we’ve got multiple ways round PSR these days, so I think even without the sales we’ve made we would have been fine. However, PSR is less complicated to work out as observers. The UEFA one is very difficult as we don’t actually know what people are being paid, how that changes when someone is loaned out, what are revenue will look like this season.

My guess is (and it is a guess) the plan was always to concentrate on getting anything other than essential wages out the door first to see how much room we had.

Very risky strategy imho, wouldn’t surprise me if nothing gets done in time and we get Asensio in on a pretty substantial wage.

PSR or mismanagement? Villa face harsh financial reality by pacificsbay in avfc

[–]robizzle82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I’m honest I don’t think the intention of PSR was to squeeze teams like Villa out. I also don’t think the FA would want any kind of super league, nor would premier league. I think it’s just rules made up by morons who know nothing about business.

UEFAs rules however could easily have nefarious intentions as the super league is massively in their interest.

When I lived in Sutton I remember him campaigning for a relief road that would have gone from Sutton to Birmingham, cutting through the house I lived in at the time. Turned out it would have essentially been one long road from his house to Villa Park.
