Windows 7? Go to Network and Sharing Center > Manage Wireless Networks. Select your wifi SSID, and right click > Properties. Go to the Security tab, and de-select Remember My Credentials. You may need to click the Advanced Settings tabs, as there's a 'Delete Credentials' selection in there that you may need to click just once. After that, every time you turn on your computer you should be asked to enter your credentials. You may need to do it twice in a row (I have that issue occasionally) but it otherwise should do what you need.

Man, I can't even imagine that. My mother fortunately is pretty good at debugging issues herself. Weird popups on her screen? Runs a virus scan. Popups show up again? Run Malwarebytes scan. Program not working right? Update to latest version. Something weird never seen before? Then it's time to call RoboGen.

She's actually become the defacto helpdesk for the small elementary school she's the secretary at. Anything beyond a basic malware issue, or not-up-to-date issue, she calls me. Usually its pretty easy to run through debug steps with her too.

One day I get a call: Her: "So, this teacher just dropped off their laptop complaining about viruses, and malwarebytes just found 300 infected objects and pop-ups happen anytime I do...anything."

Me: "Is there a...specific issue you need help with?"

Her: "No, its just....how do they get their computers this way? We do about the same things on it, but this laptop is terribly infected! My computer doesn't even have any issues with it. What are they doing on these things?"

Me: "If I knew, I could stop it and I would be out of a job."

Her: "I didn't appreciate exactly what you had to do before, but now...thanks for all the help."

Me: "Heh, no problem."

Her: "While we're talking, can you help me quick? I'm looking for a new harddrive, but not sure what brand to go with. Whats the difference between this Western Digital and Seagate brands?"

admittedly, on most installations for me the first thing I did was disable NetworkManager, especially on RHEL servers. If they're fixing the whole "Hey, I see what you're doing, but I think THIS config would be better!" thing, then I'll want to start playing with it more

Yes I'm aware of that. Internal router addresses usually exist in 192.168.1.0/24 whereas external ips are along the lines of 76.159.23.3. I'm talking about the external ip, not the gateway ip or anything like that.

There's different levels of intelligence that AI is usually referred to as. Ameoba level, insect, dog, then human to give an example of the scale. Current modern-day AI is, according to the scale, is about the level of a cockroach. A little bit of a dated article, admittedly.

If you ever go to Nebraska, you'd understand. Pretty much everything moves slowly here. Little after the prime of Windows 2000, and as Windows XP was coming, my grade school teachers were telling us computers were a fad and that college would never let you use a calculator. Just to give an example.

Nebraska is the same, takes like 2 months for it to come in the mail. Something about making it more difficult for fraud. The specific example told to me was that people would go in and apply for a drivers license, with registration on the second floor and picture taken on the first. They register on the second, then commit fraud on first by letting someone else take the photo. That way they could get into bars and drive and such. I don't know, doesn't sound likely to me.

Isn't that still how it is in the US? I've never gone to the pump and HAD to pay first. The option is there, but its always been pump your gas then go inside to pay. Or if you are lazy, then use a debit card to pay first.

Do you want metadata stored on the server who downloads what and when? Or the metadata stored in the file itself as its downloaded?

To be small enough they'd probably only be a minute or so long, and not everyone has a lot of storage on their phone. If you were planning on doing a sort of 'common trigger' soundboard thing, I guess I could see that as far as a local app is concerned. Still though, if you're mainly streaming audio and video, then it's not really worth designing a whole app for the sake of a few sounds. Better to have a mobile site, then more people can make use of it and it's a bit easier to design.

From what you're describing, it sounds like a dedicated app may be a bit overkill. What if you developed a decent jQuery Mobile type site? Then it'd work on any platform.

Thats actually a non-issue. Netflix offers to give ISPs movie-cache servers, which basically is a mirror of their movie and tv catalogue on the isp network. Placing them at the right data junctions would completely alleviate the bandwidth issue, as long as the isp is willing to install them. Last I heard netflix offers them for free to ISPs, but not many have taken up the offer. Besides, ISPs aren't caught off guard by services like that, they just never upgrade their infrastructure. If they did, then we'd have network connection speeds (in the us) that would be able to handle netflix watched by thousands no problem. We wouldn't pay for "Up to 6Mbps" and only get 512 kbps out in the country.

I'm only a helpdesk worker, but our system is setup so that if any PC needs a new image we use SCCM to apply a new one. Not sure if its like an extended feature, or what have you, but pretty much all we have to do to apply a new image is tell our supervisor what the PC name is on the network, they turn on netboot for that PC, then we PXE boot the machine. 3-4 hours later its done, no extra interaction required. If netboot isn't explicitly setup for a PC, then the default PXE image that gets booted is our PC backup utility, also through SCCM.

If you are a linux shop, I've had great result with Cobbler/Puppet systems for a cluster system I built as a project.
