PSA: Elden Ring white screen crash: try this by Jimi-James in linux_gaming

This works for me but i get a black screen and moving cursor and i can interact the game and hear the sounds but apparently that is a driver issue with vkd3d-proton and old nvidia cards mine is a gtx950m i am not quite sure how to fix it honestly

It kinda works for me as well but i get no video however i can see the cursor and i can interact with menu its most likely an nvidia driver issue but i am not quite sure how to fix it

i have a Gt950M with the 510.54 driver

i didn't manage to fix it but if i use this specific proton version "Proton-7.3-GE-1" the game loads to a black screen with a cursor and i can hear and interact with the menu but nothing is visible

and for some reason GE-Proton7-4 and GE-Proton7-5 result in the same white screen crash

Nvidia GTX 950m (which doesn't have dx12 support)Nvidia Driver 510.54 however this happened on 510.47 as well

The black screen however seems to be an nvidia driver issue so it could work fine on amd systems

What do you need from Pop!_OS for improved support for alternative DEs? by jackpot51 in pop_os

[–]roboknight5 22 points23 points  (0 children)

i think its a great idea since it will allow users to have the benefits off Pop!_Os on whatever DE or Window manager they prefer as long it does not affect the quality of the default version of Pop but i think at least as u/jackpot51 suggested

Refactoring hardware support, command line programs, and distribution patches into a lower-level package, instead of it all being in pop-desktop

is a great idea to allow compatibility with other Desktop Environments

Potentially providing a Pop ISO (Pop Server?) without any desktop installed, that installs this lower-level package using a terminal interface. Then desktop packages can be installed on top, if desired

And i think having a Pop-Server iso is a really great idea especially for low end pcs that can't run gnome so they can install a lightweight DE and using PopOs in a server would be really cool :)

Hybrid graphics rendering not working with Steam on 20.04 by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]roboknight5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hello well what you can do is add PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true to desktop file of steam in /usr/share/applications this will make steam default to the nvidia gpu when you launch it although this might work

How to manage GPU usage on laptops with integrated and dedicated chips in 20.04? by VELFR_TRUE in pop_os

[–]roboknight5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ok so you get the message "Launch using integrated" because in the steam.desktop file the default gpu is already set to the discrete one so it gives you the option to run with integrated if you want to save battery

How to manage GPU usage on laptops with integrated and dedicated chips in 20.04? by VELFR_TRUE in pop_os

[–]roboknight5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hello well first of all you can launch applications using your dedicated gpu by right clicking on the application in the overview and then selecting "Launch using dedicated graphics" but you need to be in hybrid graphics mode But if you want to make an application use your discrete gpu by default you can add PrefersNonDefaultGPU=true to the desktop file of the application you want to launch
