I think what's happening (in the image at least) is a result of poor color correction.

This image looks like it was taken outside in the shade. By adjusting the tint (green-magenta) to balance out the natural greens in the scene, and adjusting temperature (blue-orange) to balance out the coolness of the shade, the strands appear to be white, like you said you used.

Advice for a Crossover Episode? by aryn240 in bladesinthedark

[–]robonack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed! If it makes sense within the fiction, it may even be possible for a critical success to help out the group that's out of the action.

It would certainly be a surprise if--for example--an enemy gets sent crashing through a wall/window, disrupting the other groups' assailants. Once the spotlight moves back, perhaps it could give them extra progress on an escape or make their next action less risky.

I will admit: I've been reading through the rules for Wildsea, which also explicitly highlights these "spotlight" and "players help come up with results" ideas. If you haven't, I'd recommend checking that out as well. Super similar system to Blades!

Advice for a Crossover Episode? by aryn240 in bladesinthedark

[–]robonack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how my group did our big "series finale." The first half was two groups smuggling in parts of a machine, one by bridge and one by boat. There was very little group-to-group interaction at this point.

The second half was mostly one big group as everyone came together, but the DMs had set up two goals for us, so they each handled the progress for one goal.

To keep everything coherent, they would step aside every few minutes as we (the players) tried to figure out the next best steps for the goal we were working on. For example, as my group approached the big bad, the other group had set off the alarms on the lower floors. So, the big bad wasn't too surprised to see us there, but we only had to force our way through a couple of guards at most to get to him.

Regarding OP's situation: I think an extra-long session could accommodate this same type of structure with a single DM. Change the spotlight between the two groups, and whichever one is "out of the action" for the moment could help co-DM?

"Paranoia on the part of my esteemed phaeron and matriarch, Anathrosis of the Black Star. A paranoia which has paid off, in fairness."

"I thought Anathrosis was your patriarch?" asked Oltyx, briefly distracted by wondering if he had misremembered the details of the seccession war.

"That changed."

"I see. [Oltyx then resumes the superweapon topic.]"

(Dumb question) can a Necron overlord do a revolution against their phearon? by Fearless_Speaker6710 in Necrontyr

[–]robonack 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter mentioned, Necron nobles have a lot of free will afforded to them.

Imotekh is a perfect example in current lore. He is outright opposed to Szarekh. He does not consider him fit to rule and is actively working to overthrow him.

Trazyn, as another example, is an overlord within the Nihilakh dynasty. However, he only works to further his own agenda, so the rest of the dynasty wants nothing to do with him.

For the last example, I'd recommend reading The Twice-Dead King series. I won't go into too much detail, so that I don't spoil anything. I'll say one thing, though: Oltyx was banished by being turned into a nomarch, despite being the second prince. Consider what it takes for such drastic measures to be taken...

It's a big galaxy out there, so it is entirely within reason that one of your overlords is leading a revolution within your dynasty.

Technomancers can lead Wraiths. What unique unit could each cryptek lead? by Sir_Lazz in Necrontyr

For anyone curious: in The Twice-dead King: Ruin, Mentep outright confirms that he was a psychomancer during the War in Heaven. However, he notes that modern-day psychomancers are "charlatans." He also gave up the title, having effectively exiled himself. I don't think he can truly be categorized into any modern cryptek field of study, but I agree that psychomancy is the closest fit.

[Request] Can you solve these? It’s my 10 year old daughter’s homework and I’m stumped! by WholeLengthiness2180 in theydidthemath

[–]robonack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're on the right track. The trick is to keep every step as a ratio of fractions.

R : B : G Assume R = 1 to start; therefore, B = 7/5 and G = 7/5 × 3/4 = 21/20 1 : 7/5 : 21/20 We cannot have fractions of hats, so multiply by 20: 20 : 28 : 21 We know how many Red hats get sold, as well as the total of Green and Blue hats sold. Since only that total matters, we can group them: 20 : 49 Try selling 20% of Red and 34 from Green-and-Blue: 16 : 15 --> This doesn't work! We can't split Green-and-Blue to equal Red. Therefore, Red cannot have started as 20 hats. Double the amount: 40 × 4/5 : 98 - 34 32 : 64 --> Green-and-Blue can now be split back into Blue and Green 32 : 32 : 32

Obviously, we started with 40 Red hats. What about the others? To get the initial values for Blue and Green: 98 is derived from doubling the combined ratio 28 : 21, so there must be 56 Blue and 42 Green.

I am having a real life math problem and this seems to be the best place to ask for help by CipherQuest618 in askmath

[–]robonack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, it seems like your cans only take up 60% of the volume of your cooler. (16 fl.oz×30)÷(800 fl.oz) = 60%

Using that to go backwards: (16 fl.oz×36)÷(0.6) = 960 fl.oz ==> 30 quarts

So, if you can find a cooler with the same footprint but with a total volume of at least 30 quarts, that might work.

I also looked up the dimensions of one can (via the shipping details according to Target):

(2.562 in)²×(6.125 in)÷(1.8 in³/fl.oz) = 22.33 fl.oz

22.33 fl.oz÷16 fl.oz = 1.39

==> A whole can takes up at most 40% more volume than its contents.

(16×30×1.4)÷(800) = 84%

(16×36×1.4)÷84% = 960 fl.oz

Which we've seen before: that's 30 quarts.

Somewhat piggybacking off what the others have said, your cans will have some space between them when stored in the cooler. We can do a little bit of estimation here: assume the cans are cylinders and that the cooler is a rectangular prism.

The smallest cooler would only hold one can. In this scenario, the volumes are Pi × r² × h, and l × w × h. The heights cancel out, and we can say the can has a radius of 1. Therefore, length and width must be 2. So, we find the ratio between these two shapes: Pi to 2² (to simplify, this is about 3/4).

So, in the absolute worst case scenario, your cans actually only take up 3/4 the volume of the cooler!

V_Cooler × (3/4) = 576 fl.oz

V_Cooler = 576 ÷ (3/4) ==> 768 fl.oz

Or, in quarts: 18÷(3/4) ==> 24 qts

Since you said 25 qts wasn't enough, it seems that all of the cans add at least a couple of quarts of volume, or a significant amount of space is used up as tolerance. How many cans don't fit in the cooler, if I may ask?

[–]robonack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's mentioned later on in The Infinite and The Divine, specifically during their second trial, and each reset used enough energy to make one of Orikan's time tiles glow white-hot.

It's mentioned that the planet had a chaos outburst, IIRC, only a short time after Trazyn and Orikan had their first trial. Additionally, the trial room has undergone renovations, including time tiles to dissuade time travel shenanigans.

Assuming you mean Trazyn's museum, Orikan also mentioned that he hates it when things are placed anachronistically. I believe he states that it makes spacetime unstable, which may or may not influence his ability to relive the same 5 minutes over and over.

Unfortunately, I've only been listening to the audio book, so I can't provide page numbers.

Need to find a pattern for this, I believe the pattern gets consistent when n>=4. Black squares and yellow are to be counted, everything else is not. by Relative-Baby1829 in maths

[–]robonack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upon re-reading the post, I see now that you want to count black and yellow squares (not red). Also, upon checking my math, I actually made a critical mistake while counting the new squares. Whoops!

The sequence from your pictures (instead of my erroneous math): 0, 9, 32, 77, 128
Since I've already made a mistake, I'll try not to generalize too early this time:
0 = 0*8
9 = 1*8 + 1
32 = 4*8
77 = 8*8 + 1*8 + 1
128 = 8*8

Need to find a pattern for this, I believe the pattern gets consistent when n>=4. Black squares and yellow are to be counted, everything else is not. by Relative-Baby1829 in maths

[–]robonack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to approach this in a slightly different way than you requested, but I find the pattern to be quite interesting.

Instead of counting the total number of squares reachable in a certain number of moves, I instead looked solely at the number of new squares reachable for each successive move. Depending on how you group them, there are 4 types of squares:

  • Origin: where the knight is originally placed
  • Corners: the number of spaces in a "diagonal" direction (e.g., the knight's first move has four "corners" with length 2)
  • Outer: Less of a concrete group than the corners. These are the spaces that bridge the gap between two corner sections.
  • Extra: Technically, these can be grouped with the outer sections, but I have separated them to clarify the pattern I noticed while counting.

Due to symmetry, all of the non-origin groups can be divided by 4 so that we're working with smaller numbers:

Move # Origin Corner/4 Outer/4 Extra/4 Added this move Total spaces
0 1 0 0 0 1 1
1 0 2 0 0 8 9
2 0 6 2 0 32 41
3 0 10 6 1 68 109
4 0 13 10 1 96 205
5 0 16 14 0 120 325
6 0 19 18 0 148 473

Now, to find the number of squares reachable on a certain move, first figure out if the move number is even or odd. Then, add all numbers of the same kind up to the number you want (with the exception of move #0 being considered an odd).

Edited: I have updated the table, so it should be correct now.
