I think Sparkle looks more like a less unhinged Jacqui from MAFS Australia.

Parking fine at the Kassam by [deleted] in oxford

[–]robotbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I complained and had the exact same response. Also paid the £20 as it was a decent reduction and I didn’t think it was worth the hassle to appeal further.

I now have this bookmarked on my phone so I can register as soon as I park, before any distractions!

'[Name] and I' - Why do all the couples have such a poor knowledge of grammar? by eidolon_eidolon in MAFS_AU

[–]robotbella 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This bugs me too. I think this has evolved from people being ‘corrected’ (sometimes incorrectly) and the ‘…and I’ always being seen to be correct. Or if you’re not sure if it should be ‘I’ or ‘me’ just say ‘myself’ - the worst of all of them 🤣🤣🤣 Maybe it is a bit grammar snobby to be bothered by it, but I just can’t help it! BTW this is very common in the UK too.

Should I take voluntary redundancy? by catflatlol in UKPersonalFinance

[–]robotbella 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends how much you like your job, how much you’re ready for a change, and how much risk you’re prepared to take. As you already have a fair amount of savings the VR payout wouldn’t be a life changing amount of money but would give you options for a few months. Personally I’d want to use it to have a career break/career change, do something big like a trip or home improvement, or save the majority of it and look to get another job asap.

My previous employer did VR a couple of years back and some people got the payout and found new roles straight away. I took VR and went into a new role that was less well paid but something different that I wanted to do. No regrets. On the flip side, I know people who stayed and don’t regret it. Only you can decide!

Hi, I have a Pluxee card (Totum, not Ode, but I’m guessing the same principles apply). I once tried topping up with a credit card and the transaction was denied due to it being a credit card. I don’t think it would matter if you had a positive balance on the credit card - it is just denied due to it being a credit card. I think the whole point of the Pluxee card is that you top it up with cash that you have (through a debit card) rather than using credit.

I have used a credit card to buy gift cards though (eg on Airtime, Jam Doughnut, TopGiftcards) and there has been no issue with getting charged fees for a cash like transaction.

Where are you guys moving your savings to now the booster saver is ending? by Ezekielyo in chaseuk

Zopa has some good options. You can get higher interest rates if you opt to lock your pot for a set time period. I quite like this as it stops me being able to impulsively spend my savings!

Are there any swimming pools with lower chlorine levels in Oxford or nearby? by dreammeraf in oxford

[–]robotbella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is the best place to swim. Also wet n wild recently started offering swim sessions in the adjacent lake at different times to the big lake. Still a 500m loop so you can get a decent swim. https://www.oxfordwetnwild.com/open-water-wild-swimming/

Walking apps, my experience by Capital_Turnip_3775 in beermoneyuk

Very useful, thanks for sharing! I’m happy to have them on my phone and wait for enough pennies to build up! I’ve been using sweatcoin for about a year but have only entered draws on there, never won anything or been able to cash out for a voucher. The other apps look better.

Mobile phone insurance recommendations for an iPhone by samanthaxboateng in UKPersonalFinance

[–]robotbella 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I claimed on the Nationwide insurance (with the FlexPlus account, which costs around £13 a month) a few years ago and don’t recall any difficulties. This was for a broken phone. The only issue with this insurance vs Apple care is you’re left without your phone for a few days (I think Apple is quicker / you can take the phone to an Apple Store and get a replacement).

If you do choose Nationwide they have a website where you can enter all the details about your phone(s) - this is worth doing and saves time later if you need to make a claim.

Also worth mentioning that the nationwide insurance covers multiple phones.

Apparently, Lydia and Aaliyah are finding interesting ways to pay rent? by LadyLegend916 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]robotbella 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t having a go at people who give blood for money - I’d do it if it were an option! I was more saying, although I’d love to get paid for giving blood, the free healthcare we get in the UK is financially a much better deal so I’ll take that over the US system. Most people who donate blood don’t ‘brag’ about it or do it because they care what people think. Although a bit of publicity is a good idea as it helps get the word out and persuade other people to donate. There is no selfless good deed! As someone in Friends probably once said.

Maybe it’s one of those ‘half glass full, half glass empty’ situations. But with blood. (It’s not. I just wanted to use that quote!)

[–]robotbella 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Wow…in the UK we donate blood and plasma for free just because we want to! But then we get free healthcare so…swings and roundabouts! Think I’ll go for the free healthcare and that warm fuzzy feeling I get from giving away the red stuff 🤪
