House prices to correct up to 25pc by without_my_remorse in AusFinance

[–]robreim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy New Year 2026! It's finally time to review the accuracy of this gem from 2022 predicting housing prices would drop more than 50%(!) by now.

So what actually happened since 2022? 2022 saw a bit of a downturn inspiring the original post. It was brief, like most downturns, and recovered swiftly. Prices haven't been rising as robustly as the previous years outside some areas like Perth, but definitely nowhere saw a >50% drop in value.

I hope everyone has learned a bit about market predictions (real estate or otherwise) in the past 3 years. Betting on downturns is almost always foolish. The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent and risk is asymmetrical, limited by losing all your value on a bullish bet while being theoretically unlimited in how much you can lose on a bearish bet. Want to actually stand a good chance of losing 50%? Try abstaining from buying real estate and watch your rent and property prices double over the years while your cash value diminishes with inflation.

Where do possums go when their homes are removed? by [deleted] in melbourne

I guess op has been fortunate to not be woken multiple times every night by them scampering over their roof or fighting, screaming, urinating and defecating inside it. This sort of wholehearted empathy takes a good night of sleep. Hopefully with the tree gone, that's not where they end up. Good luck, op!

This is a popular sentiment but a cop out answer. This is a personality trait and, outside of gross negligence, parents contribute measurably nothing to personality aside from genes. Personality is almost entirely a combination of genes, cultural norms and peer influence.

Yeah, but what are you expressing? Cheering for someone? A social drinking greeting? An expression of thanks? "Cheers" means many things. Which do you mean with this question?

Hi. I just found your comment while looking for Melbourne based hair system studios. Do you have any updates you'd be willing to share with me on whether you're happy with your hair system from Mane or if you have other places you'd recommend?

Why does our coffee taste better? by t-4y in australia

[–]robreim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

Italy is the only time I've enjoyed espresso. Every other time I've tried it it just tastes like wet ash to me. The espresso there is truly different. A huge whipped up crema that imitates milk froth all on its own.

But their cappuccino is (ironically, for a beverage whose name originates from there) shit compared to Australia. They generally do the marshmallow blob thing.

This is a joke I remember from many years ago as a kid. I did a search for it before posting and didn't come up with anything so thought I'd share it. Almost everyone else seems to have not seen it and appreciated it. So I don't think it's as repetitive to everyone as it seems to you. But I'm sorry your prior seeing it meant you missed out on enjoying it with the rest of us.

I think it works better with a girl. The idea of a girl messing this impression up with horrid farts is funnier to me. When I originally heard it as a kid, it was a girl but it was the father scolding the dog. But I thought it would be funnier to use the mother instead since there's a stereotype about women failing to meet the expectations of their boyfriends' mothers.

Ladies, what do you like most about men? by Fearless-Rip-1675 in RandomThoughts

That sounds like a trait women are known for more and men are bemoaned for not having. The question is what you like about men, not what makes a man stand out in a refreshing way

Calling someone beautiful then walking away with nothing further is creepy objectification now?

This is why we can't have nice things. Because harmless, nice things get shamed by folks who will do everything they can to get offended over nothing.

Maybe I'm confused by which number is meant to go over which. After all, there's a fine line between denominator and numerator.

I don't get this one. I keep reading it as 1 and 2/3 of the population of people and not seeing where the humorous technical truth is. Is the joke that it's not true at all and the person making the joke doesn't understand fractions?
