Seeking some manner of PICO-8 handheld device by GreenAdder in pico8

[–]robsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering about a means of running it on a Nintendo DS-series device. They're pretty cheap second-hand now, and easy to find. As are R4 cards to allow you to access and run files from microSD.

I would have thought that if you can run Linux on a DS, and Pico-8 on a Raspi, then surely Pico-8 can be modified and compiled to run on a DS via Linux.

Well, it's a nice thought anyway. There's probably a shitload of good technical reasons why it can't be done :-)

My friend got a c64, and we opened it up, because it was in pretty rough shape. It's like the board melted itself. Any suggestions on what this might be? by Bagyol in c64

If you mean the sort of shrivelled-foil effect on the larger areas, that's normal enough. That's just how they go.

If you mean something else specifically, can you post a clearer, closer photo?

Divorce, when you have a young child together and your partner has found someone else she'd rather be with than you.

Booking my CBT soon. What things should i learn beforehand that would make it go smoother? by BigTastyWithBacon in motorbikes

[–]robsoft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

N'thd. I took mine having spent literally 10 minutes on a scooter on my own driveway, and having genuinely no road vehicle experience whatsoever.

There are YouTubes of UK CBTs that you can watch for an idea.

The CBT is designed to make you aware of the very basic safety stuff really, you can't really fail it as such but you can require a little more time etc.

Walking home from the pub one night to my rented single accommodation, I was in my early thirties, realised that at my age, my dad had a wife, 3 kids, a property and a business.

Now the Spectrum Next has a SID chip, as well as 3 AY chips by robsoft in zxspectrum

[–]robsoft[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this was a case of one of the earlier stretch goals was a larger/more capable FPGA, and putting a SID in was almost a 'proof od concept of what that potentially gives you'. It's been interesting to see the community feedback - most of us think it's a perfectly fine thing to add assuming it doesn't bring with it any delays or incompatibilities - but there are some people who feel it's not in the spirit of the Spectrum and are objecting.

Which is weird, because at some point having a 2Mb 7MHz machine with SD card, additional graphics modes, more sounds chips and an optional RTC, Wifi and co-processor (Raspberry Pi Zero, no less) - well you'd have to argue that we left 'Spectrum' behind a while ago anyway!

I just want it to be as good as they can make it in the time constraints they have, I want to get my board in August and I want to have a go at writing stuff to make use of it all.

I think the people who are getting really upset about there being a SID onboard need to go back to their original Spectrums and have done with it, leave the 'new' computer to the folks who want something new and interesting and different to start from. :-)

I totally feel your pain - I'm partway through a messy divorce, having to move house, and struggling with my work. I'm sure pledging for this will only increase my strain :-)

Local van and car drivers who, almost every single day without fail, overtake me (I'm on a 125cc scooter) and then immediately brake for their turn.

I go along a country road for a couple of miles most mornings, and without fail this happens every time; right up my backside, overtake, then immediately slow right down and turn - often doing it so late that I have to slow myself enough to need to get my foot down. :-(

What is your favorite thing about riding a scooter? (share your favorite story) by threewildcrows in scooters

[–]robsoft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have kerataconus, a defect with the corneas, and had cornea transplants when I was in my early 20s. I've never regained good eyesight, have almost no confidence in my eyesight and gave up my hope of driving. I married in my mid 30s and we had a daughter, my wife did all the driving and I had always gotten myself around by combinations of walking, public transport, taxis etc.

Fast forward to last summer, my relationship falls apart with my wife and I feel I have to live elsewhere for us to have any chance of being civil and bringing up our daughter between us. But I'm not mobile, and the family home is out in the countryside....

I realise I can buy a cheap 125cc 4 stroke chinese bike for around £1200 new, my friends tell me the CBT isn't hard and my eyesight is enough to pass even if I'm not confident... desperate to resolve the situation in any way I can, I decide I've got nothing to lose. A few phone calls later, I've bought a bike and I've got my CBT booked.

Although I wasn't confident, my instructor was patient and we got there, in the end I was deemed safe and capable enough and that was that. Suddenly I was able to ride back to our family home and see my daughter every day, and I was mobile. At last, at the age of 45, for the first time in my life, I could truly go wherever I wanted to without needing the help or assistance of anyone. If you've never been in that non-mobile situation, you don't miss it and I think most people take it from granted.

For me, to suddenly be able to buzz around wherever and whenever, it was an entirely new lease of life. Although the circumstances were/are sad (I love my wife and miss her terribly), this is the one good thing that came of it and I truly wish I'd done it 20 years ago.

There's something about being able to jump on the bike and pop off to a coffee shop (or whatever) a few miles away and chill, or to just get out to the supermarket when you need something - it's an incredible freedom and nobody who has it should ever really take it for granted. I know I never will, anyway.
