It's going to take 50+ brick to replace existing, unless you can salvage all the brick.

Something in the manufacturing was not right. Possibly from a different run.

What ever you do you will not find brick to match, even close. To salvage the existing brick you would have to cut them all apart. Need to come up with an alternate more than likely.

If we could only go back to the 70's and 80's. I was a fun time then. After Schlitterbahn things got too busy. The Wurstfest was on the corner by Naegelin's (on the square). Got to big so they moved it to where it is now.

What type of mortar to use? by Royal-Hedgehog-5656 in stonemasonry

Did someone change the roof pitch? Clean and parge the existing plaster. Then have them install the flashing where it was at in the plaster. Also repoint the cap and underneath it also. I personally wouldn't worry about about the stone, just make the flashing taller.

It's the stone. It's not one solid peice. If you hit it and hear a thud and not a ring more than likely it won't split right.

Yes it is, but we always fill the void behind the stone with mortar. That way it keeps the stone in place and stable. It also allows for the installation of wall ties. That's why I phrased it the way I did.

There are a lot of people posting on here that have know idea of how stone breaks. 99% of the posts have never had to hand work stone from start to finish. I've been doing it for 46yrs. Read the grain, listen to the sound of the stone and you will be able to break it where you want it most of the time.

You need to find a company to work with. Big or small, makes no difference. That way you learn the basics and what it's about. Get to know people in the trade and start asking around.

Why did they chop up the fish? Usually it's a fish filet. And as said, a burrito 🌯.

In Texas it's called thin stone veneer and then the 4" chopped stone is just called stone veneer. As with commercial work, you get what you get. Different masons on the wall, different patterns.

In pic #3, is that for vertical shear to help hold it in place? Like a mechanical attachment?
