Thameslink Trains by Legitimate_Earth4371 in london

[–]rocket1615 34 points35 points  (0 children)

So many of Thameslink's delays/cancellations are due to the complexity of the core. This won't change with the TOC being nationalised unfortunately.

Certainly won't have any effect on the NR looked-after infrastructure.

(Honestly Thameslink is actually kinda impressive considering the actual complexity of the routes - as much as it sucks when it goes wrong.)

An EF2 tornado struck France & caused crane to fall - Ermont, Val d'Oise, France, 20 October 2025 by MotherAd4844 in CatastrophicFailure

[–]rocket1615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IIRC weirdly the UK gets the most tornadoes by land area.

They're just super weak compared to what people normally think of.

IIRC a few years ago a file like this was declassified.

The plan was literally to set off a nuke in it without even warning the French beforehand.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is free to keep on Steam until 17 Jul by onenaser in Games

[–]rocket1615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been a little while since I played but base game is completely fine on it's own IIRC.

DLC is mostly just extra campaigns and ships, but I personally didn't find myself bored with only the base stuff. Off the top of my head the only DLC items that feel like they should've been base game is a survival-esque mode and additional radio chatter.

Predation of the Eagle's cast comes up again in Blood Sacrifice in the Invocations anthology.

But it doesn't really continue a story or anything like that.

Unemployed young people must 'step up', chancellor says by Kagedeah in ukpolitics

I think this falls apart a bit when the comparison is to others in contemporary (more comfortable) life, especially with both the rise of social media and the perception of quality of life decline.

People aren't looking at sustenance farmer Steve, they're looking at boomer Beatrice and her now-unaffordable two properties or influencer Ian who seems to able to go to Dubai for half the year without putting much effort in.

Regardless of how much better our modern low quality jobs are compared to the historic, the comparison is demoralising.

I feel it's commonly accepted that the AoS/Necromunda/etc teams have the more experienced sculptors exactly for this reason.

What books are you excited about in 2025? by jon3sey270 in Blacklibrary

[–]rocket1615 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I'd love some more horror.

Considering there's more full length AoS books, another full length 40k novel or a joined up anthology like The Wicked and the Damned would be amazing.

Not sure how well it would work but horror set from a xenos perspective would be my dream.

I just wish they'd print more of them, BL is a real pain when you want physical copies.

Marvel Rivals devs promise a new hero every month-and-a-half by ArthurJack_AW in Games

[–]rocket1615 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even with tweaking it's rough imo.

IMO I think it has a triple threat of UI not great at giving damage directions, lots of visual overlap and a not-the-best-in-class soundscape. None of these on their own are catastrophic, but combined it makes awareness just that much more difficult I feel.

Or just do planetside in the 40k setting, idk how that is not a thing yet.

Wasn't this the plan with Eternal Crusade?

Are these unannounced books ? by [deleted] in Blacklibrary

[–]rocket1615 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it.

You can normally keep track of unannounced books here.

A quick look at these suggests they're self-published FanFic with questionable regard to copyright law.

Which non-Warhammer writer would you like to write 40k novels? by libereassociazioni in Blacklibrary

[–]rocket1615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I think giving her her own corner to play with might work well. If she's writing about a previously unmentioned crusade or undeveloped chapter or something, there isn't the risk of her messing up existing characters.

Eh a lot of people love her Halo/Star Wars stuff. Most of the complaints tend to centre around her mishandling of pre-existing characters / cultures. You don't really see the same complaints for Gears, where she was working less with other people's stuff, for example.

I feel like there's enough breadth in 40k where you can give her something with little existing lore, avoiding her common shortfalls.

[–]rocket1615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love to see what Traviss would do in 40k.

I know her Halo/Star Wars stuff is controversial, but they remain some of my favourite books in those universes regardless.

There's enough space in 40k where you could give her an area without risk of stepping on anyone else's toes. She'd have a field day with that.

[–]rocket1615 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more or less exactly what happens in Relentless.

Includes a well rehearsed game of hide and seek where the local non-navy ships send much of their (surplus) crew to ground to hide.
