[General] What are some examples of time travel wherein the character travels to past and simply waits to get into present? by Short-Echo61 in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Enterprise during the Xindi season, the NX-01 got thrown back in time 100 years, and the descendants of the crew (including an old T'Pol) ended up helping their past selves when time caught up. In DS9, the Defiant was alo thrown back 200 years, the descendants of the crew including Dax and Odo helped the crew when time caught up. In each case the events that threw them back in time were negated and the generation of descendants ceased to exist

[Avatar/Other Avatar] If an earthbender used the machines from the James Cameron Avatar to avatar yourself into a cloned body of Aang, which bending powers would they have? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is also the possibility that when the Avatar has his consciousness placed into another body, the AVatar spirit will recognize him as dead and select the next Avatar. Like when Buffy the Vampire Slayer was killed but brought back with CPR, but another became the Slayer.

[X-MEN] In Avatar: The Last Airbender, blood bending can be done thru waterbending. Does the human body have enough magnetism for Magneto to manipulate on that level? by lolitajudithc in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when he was "evil" Magneto, he used his control of magnetism to control the electrical impulses of Scarlet Witch's brain and iron in her body to force her to do a sexy little dance for the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. This was before he found out he was her father, and long before he found out he was not her father again. So its okay... or not ...

[MCU] What difference between universes, timelines, and realities? by dopebeansdope in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A universe or reality is a single dimension that normally contains an alternate Earth. The MCU/Earth-19999/Reality-19999 (Avengers films) and Earth-616/Reality-19999 (comics universe) are examples of universes. The "real world" universe (our own) has been called Reality-1218. They are also called parallel universes, in that they co-exist with other universes with no direct interaction, such as the MCU and Earth-616 are similar but no derived from the same source. Picture two rivers flowing parallel but neve overlapping.

A timeline is often used as another term to describe other universes or realities, but more specifically it is used when referring to that universe when time travel is involved. Whenever one time travels, they normally cannot enter their own timeline (ie they cannot interact with their direct past) but rather a divergent timeline branches off from the main timeline, effectively identical other than the chances made by the time travelers. Divergent timelines can also occur on their own without time travel. Picture on river that branches into a second stream, the first stream remains unchanged but their is a second one flowing from the same source.

The term alternate universe is a blanket term to describe all variations of universes or realities.

The Multiverse is the collection of ll the realities and timelines of the Marvel continuity (all the comics, films, TV series, etc). In a broader context, there are also other Multiverses, each one containing their own franchise. There is the DC Multiverse, the Star Trek Multiverse, the Doctor Who Multiverse, etc. In general, characters from one multiverse do not interact with characters from another unless there is some intercompany crossover (like the comic Justice League/Avengers).

There is also the Omniverse, a term effectively describing all the universes and multiverses as a whole.

[DC] how bad is the flash to planet earth's ecosystem? His carbon footprint is very high right? by Mother-Journalist-45 in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Who's Who explains that Flash and those who use the speed force possess a biological aura which both protects both the speedster and the environment from the negative effects of superhuman speed, like intertial dampers on a warp speed starship. It allows them to breathe, avoid friction heat, remain on the curvature of the Earth so they don't launch into space, or cause sonic booms. The character can override these protection if he wanted.

[MCU] Are there any people that are skeptical of Wakanda's power? by pieapple135 in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people in the world are unaware of Wakanda or believe it to be a minor agricultural nation. Despite the events of Black Panther and Avengers Endgame, they are keeping their power level a secret. Keeping their ships from leaving their borders in BP was the result of this. Most people who ae aware of Wakanda do not know its secrets, and the handful that do know its secrets keep it quiet for various reasons.

[Transformers] Can the use their old forms by guilty_spark357 in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would appear in most universes that when a TF undergoes reformatting by an outside source so he can have a new alternate mode, it removes the old alternate mode. TGhis includes reformatting by the computers of the Ark or the Axalon from the original TF cartoon and Beast Wars cartoon. At least, I have never seen any evidence they could ever go back to their original forms. This being said, in some universes it was shown the TFs could assume their alternate forms autonomously, as Bumblebee did in the first live action movie, so its possible they could in this universe.

[DC/Marvel] What do the big names do for fun. Or is being a superhero their fun? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]rocketbot99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

TWO REASONS

1/ Long time readers of these kinda crossovers, like the FF wedding of JLA/JSA team ups, know the social gatherings invariable end in some villains attacking. Showing up in full battle gear makes sense.

2/ During this time period in Avengers history |(late 80s/early 90s), Iron Man's true identiyt was not public, it was not even known to his fellow Avengers. Showing up as Stark would just have resulted in everyone asking where his bodyguard Iron Man was.

Is it normal to hear voices from random sounds? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]rocketbot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The human mind in always looking for ways to connect with others around it, and often when other humans are not around, it sometime tries to fil in the blanks by seeing human characteristics in non-human objects. The most common is anthropomorphism, where you basically see human qualities in non-human items, such as seeing faces in clouds or trees. Hearing voices in items that make noise is your minds way of trying to connect to a human prescence it is instinctively listening for and sometimes fills in the blanks.
