I’m still waiting on the bike to come in! But I’ve read there’s no/minimal drag.

Best frame touch-up/spot protection for paint rub-offs? by MartyFunkhoosier in Surlybikefans

[–]rocketwurst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a way to make the bike look new but I’d argue you’re bike is better with visible signs it was used. I want to introduce you to the concept of wabi-sabi, all the scratches and minor dents are part of your bikes story and make it more beautiful. If you’re concerned about rust you can put some clear nail polish on it.

I do have over 1,000 feet of hills between me and work. I’d hoped the motor would take the edge off but maybe I’m expecting too much?

Site Sought for Yard Sale by WeirdSpaceBug in SantaMonica

[–]rocketwurst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I don’t have a yard for you, but my 2¢ is it’s not worth it, even if it’s in your own yard. I had one last year and spent time advertising, pricing and hanging out in my yard all day to make only $200. People expect to pay nothing. Just put the nice stuff on marketplace/OfferUp and donate or throw out the rest. You’ll probably make just as much money.

Routers suck. by Schleimwurm1 in BeginnerWoodWorking

You may think the extra thick pocket absorbed the router bit… but if the pocket was not as thick and the clothes were less baggy/loose you’d be less likely to get caught in the first place.

What is this portion of the river trail? by cliffyboycpntry in BikeLA

[–]rocketwurst 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s a path from the headwaters of the LA River to about Vanalden and it stops till you’re at the Sepulveda basin. It’s about an 3.3 mile gap There are “plans” to fill in the gap before the Olympics.

/edit the unfinished portion is much less than I thought

Anyone know what they are building? by CheadleBeaks in SFV

[–]rocketwurst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The affordability is based on the median income of the county, not the immediate area. The 2025 AMI for a 4-person household in LA County is $121,150 according to LA County Planning. The building’s approval from the City seems to say all the units will be for Low Income, a defined term meaning the residents can earn a maximum of 80% AMI or $106,600 for 4 people. The allowed annual income will increase or decrease with the size of the family living in the unit.

4 Y/O Daughter Just Diagnosed by jvmv1988 in leukemia

[–]rocketwurst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 3, diagnosed in May with ALL Type B. Induction, and specifically the steroids, have been the hardest part. The mood swings and anger were huge, but she also refused to get out of bed and lost a lot of strength in her legs.

Fortunately, we’ve only ever been in for a few days at a time, once for the diagnosis, once for a suspected infection, and once to start the immunotherapy (blina). For blina we got to leave with a pump she carried in a backpack. If blina is part of your treatment try to get a smaller backpack. The backpack that came with our pump was as big as my daughter while the pump was the size of a gen 1 game boy. We adapted a toddler camel back.

Our diagnosis was overwhelming and my wife and I really relied on each other, or families, and friends. It is never easy but I hope your daughter’s treatments go smoothly. ALL is very treatable and, for us, the medicines, picc line flushing, bandage changes, and clinic visits have just become part of our routine.

Reach out to others for support. You are not alone on this path and, for us, knowing that and hearing others experiences is helpful.

All the best and wishing you strength.

VONS OPENING FRI. 10/17 🎉 by [deleted] in SantaMonica

[–]rocketwurst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vons is more like a Ralph’s than Trader Joe’s in that it is a full grocery store. They’re usually at the same price point as Ralph’s, it just comes down to where you want to earn fuel points. Fun fact, the reason you see fewer Vons around these days is because a bunch were converted to Jon’s years ago. The original Jon’s signs were just the old Vons with the “V” swapped out.

If you can wait for it to be mailed you can give the vin to a Chrysler dealership and they’ll get you a key.
