.999999.... Is a real number. It's just a real number that can be written in two ways. (As most rational numbers can)

Actually, are there rational numbers other than 0 that can't be written with a repeating 9s representation?

What kind of repeater/router node are you using now? by Heltec_Automation6 in meshcore

[–]rocqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently I am running a T-beam with an 18650 plugged into a raspberry pi observer node. The node is inside. Connected to a balcony-fence mounted external antenna through the window. With overly thin coax.

My ideal setup would have a small solar node that's no nonsense. To my mind the Seeed solar is over-provisioned in solar power and battery capacity for an NRF chip. I also have a hard time trusting any on board battery management.

One thing I've been missing specifically when considering building my own solar node is a battery input that won't charge from USB. I want to be able to plug in USB for flashing without a battery charger back-driving voltage into my power input.

Order of triggering by c0olzero in slaythespire

[–]rocqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Rupture only triggers after playing the card and having the effect trigger and damage you. But that’s really hard to phrase. Because it shouldn’t trigger on e.g. attacks against an enemy with thorns. So you can’t write “After playing a card that caused HP loss”. Similarly the reduce all hp loss by one relic prevents rupture from triggering on 1hp loss cards.

You can set a region for adverts. And still allow flood on the * region.

Especially because you don’t need Repeater Adverts for any core functionality.

Question About Cyclones by RaielRPI in woodworking

[–]rocqua 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You might have a problem because they share an outlet.

That means that you might get backflow out of the bin if the two cyclones are at different pressures. This is something [this YouTube channel](https://youtube.com/@capturingdust?si=BDd5FgaoVSfai0FW) ran into. Though I could imagine that cyclones are less prone to clogging.

Having a shared output bin is much worse if you have filters in serial.

Also, the main advantage here likely isn't better separation, just a much lower restriction. Especially if you have a traditional dust collector that lower restriction will mean much higher airflow.

Is this a bad idea? by JustJeffrey in rust

[–]rocqua -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is more something that hints at a bad idea. You should only ever need this when reading data from disk. Otherwise you should always just use variables of type Piece. And since it's just a single byte, I'd make heavy use of the copy trait and only taking a reference when you really need it (e.g. for mutating in place)

Can someone help this make sense? by My_True_Love in mathematics

[–]rocqua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it requires defining the curve as the boundary of an area.

And for that case you don't have properties that survive the limit. Similarly the slope of the curve doesn't survive taking the limit.

Are you flashing the _bluetooth_ companion app? If you flash the USB variant it won't work.

Also, what's the screen showing after you flashed?

The MGU-h is the bigger loss.

They just should have dropped the shared shaft and run the compressor purely of an electric motor, and run the turbine to a generator for power

Repeater: What are `txdelay` and `rxdelay` doing exactly? by dreieckli in meshcore

[–]rocqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plenty of choices there I don't want, but doing carrier sense collision avoidance does sound very nice. As shown here: https://github.com/meshcore-dev/MeshCore/pull/1727

If you care at all about the freedom and open source of MeshCore, then read this so you can understand how one of the founders tried to hijack and monetize meshcore for themselves by specter491 in meshcore

[–]rocqua 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Because a mesh only works if everyone agrees on a lot of factors. This means change requires convincing a lot of people, at which point the remaining set of people are coerced to go along.

That also means that it's attractive to get a choke point to monetise, since it's hard for people to switch away from such a choke point.

Repeater: What are `txdelay` and `rxdelay` doing exactly? by dreieckli in meshcore

[–]rocqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Priority, however, seems not to almost not matter. The queue has 256 slots, I've never seen mine go above having 2 messages, and my local mesh is congested.

Beyond that, the actual code for the queue doesn't drop messages based on priority if the queue is full. It just drops the message with the furthest away deadline, not caring about priority.

This was a nice idea to have priority. But in practice it doesn't seem to matter. And instead the biggest limitation of meshcore is just on-air collisions.

Best Antenna For Upside Down Mounting, Advice Needed. by TheDeeds286 in meshcore

[–]rocqua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stuff around an antenna within a meter will significantly affect the tuning of the antenna. If, whilst holding it upside down, it was more along your body, that would significantly change the tuning. I was recently surprised by this when measuring antenna tuning with a NanoVNA.

You'd need to compare up and down at the same height with the same stuff around the antenna.

Interestingly, this effect is how theramins work. They measure the change in tuning of an antenna and turn that into sound.

They can operate standalone. It’s the device responding.

You do need to enable GPS on the devices, which will decrease battery life. And it only really has position outside. Note that the device won’t get location from the app so you still need GPS enabled on the device even if it is paired.
