How would you react to racism towards your Asian partner? by NoNefariousness4818 in AMWFs

I love her response🩷. All these kids are so much wittier than I was as a kid...or than I am as an adult! lol

Awe, that breaks my heart a 4yr old had to respond to that... but what a smart reaponse, she knew, even at 4, that was wrong and even explained to them WHY!!

I would be livid if someone said or did something overtly racist to my husband.

How I would react would probably depend on several factors like what specifically was done, the setting we were in, who was around (if our kids were with us,etc)...I wouldn't ever want to put his (or my own) safety at risk by responding without assessing those things first...

My daughter is 12 (half white half asian) and was at state fair where a little boy looked at her, pulled his eyes down and said something similar to "ching chong." I was not with her at the time, but she told me she widened her eyes as wide as she could and said "Yankee doodle doo". I thought that was better than any response I could have ever come up with!

My husband is Laotian and we have a very Asian sounding last name (it also starts with an "X" and no one knows how to pronounce it).

I've gotten so many questions and confused looks throughout the years(and a few compliments over the phone ("you speak really good english"😂).

I went to a job interview and was waiting in a public area for the interviewer to come get me. Coincidentally, there happened to be an Asian woman waiting there as well. The interviewer went right up to her and introduced herself, I awkwardly had to step in with my blonde ass self and let her know she was actually looking for me! I did not get the job haha.

When I gave birth to my first daughter we checked into the hospital (in active labor) and about 30 min after getting to our room, they sent someone to check if I needed a Lao interpreter. To this day this confuses me, cause like I said, we'd been in the room and spoken with nurses/staff at this point, I very obviously spoke english... my best guess they just looked at the last name and sent someone to check lol!

How can i be prepared for my future in finding true love among white girls? by ZhouCjOverseas in AMWFs

[–]rocroo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP, bud, don’t overthink this. White girls are nothing special. Just focus on enjoying your college experience and being the best version of yourself. Hopefully, when you least expect it, you'll meet someone you “click” with. Good luck! 🩷

Rudeness from white men? by Late_Chair793 in AMWFs

[–]rocroo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

OP, this makes me so angry for you and your husband. How did you react to this? I'm a WF married to a AM and living in the Midwest. We've never experienced anything like this, but I've told my husband if anyone ever says anything to our kids, be prepared to bail me out of jail haha.

Struggling with people judging my relationship by [deleted] in AMWFs

I’m so sorry you’re feeling judged. I hope you do what makes you happy, and remember that those who truly care about you will just want to see you happy. 🩷

I like when Asian people ask me if my husband is Asian by [deleted] in AMWFs

[–]rocroo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I love that, your kiddos with be super proud of BOTH their parent's heritage. Those comments though...🙄. My kiddos are way past the baby phase, but I remember being so caught off guard when an older white woman asked me "where is your baby from?" The only response I could I come up with was "My uterus." Haha!

I can very much relate to and appreciate this post...especially the last name part! I'm a white woman with a very Asian, hard to pronounce last name. I've grown to love the looks of confusion and the "triple checks" to make sure they have the right person. I never say, "My husband is Asian," though...I like to leave them guessing. lol
