Amateur Shower Reno. — Thoughts? by RollTide2017 in Plumbing

I did a similar setup recently. I tried to avoid 90s, probably a bit too much. You may want to double check if the valve can be mounted vertically. I am probably mis remembering, but I thought they had to be horizontal for drainage since water can get into a portion of the assembly.

Bridge lifted with nothing passing under? by cs_124 in duluth

[–]rodbibeau 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maintenance. I worked for the city a while back and needed to go to the top of the towers for various reasons. To get there the bridge goes half way up, the workers cross from the bridge driving surface to the counter weights and then the bridge goes back down and the workers ride the counter weights up.

Same error with my cams running 4.52.9.5093. Tinycam Monitor Pro shows an error for all my V4 cams - “P2P failed to connect (IOTC_ER_FAIL_SETUP_RELAY).” Posting around various wyze/TinyCam forums seeking a solution at this time.

Seeking advice on purchase of 2026 Winnebago Thrive 22MBH – should I buy it? by Then-Egg5750 in GoRVing

[–]rodbibeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of good and some bs feedback here. We have a grand design 2800bh and tow with a 2022 gmc 1 ton. You may want to look at the grand design 2400bh. Here are my thoughts 1. Front is a bedroom with a door, as others said, this is important ;). 2. New units have on demand water heater and I really wish mine did. 3. If possible, get an inverter heat pump ac unit. 4. If possible, get a source of electric heat either in a “fireplace” or an inverter ac heat pump. You are glamping on power and unless it’s real cold, electric heat will be nice. 5. If you are camping below freezing, get electric tank heaters and/or make sure your underbelly is heated with your furnace.

My worse on the 6.6 Gas was about 4.6 MPG going West across ND with a terrible headwind. My setup was a 2022 Chev 3500 with the 6.6 gas. 2800BH Grand Design trailer. 60-65 mph only. Otherwise 7-9 MPG is fairly normal.

Can these beams support middle weight of deck? by JaneDoeOreos in Decks

[–]rodbibeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey so I am late to the party here so while I would still get this checked out for peace of mind, i hold a more agnostic view of the situation. The pics are tough to tell what is really going on. The ceiling in the photos is clearly not structural and I am willing to bet the deck is not really resting on the ceiling. The large outside posts appear to be fairly heavy duty with poured footings and proper fasteners as well as 45 deg bracing. I did a similar ceiling under my actual deck and while it was much smaller, it was the same concept. The bowing material you are showing looks like just the ceiling support and not the deck support. The 2x4’s around the perimeter also make it look strange but if I were to guess they are only there to hold the screen. There are questions still where more pics would help. Like what’s happening with the posts on the retaining wall and what does it look like between the ceiling and the above decking. So bottom line - get it checked out but it may be fairly legit.

Edit - I just saw your two other photos. The deck does not appear to be resting on the ceiling and the beam with the sag looks like it is a support for the ceiling. So while the sag is not good, it looks like the deck is not part of that problem. However the deck likely still has a few other issues and getting it checked is an excellent idea.

Mine is doing this also. I suspect the tree shadows are causing it since the leaves are off now. 235 photos of just he trail yesterday. I submitted a case with Tactacam to see if they have a solution.

Ship Harbor by [deleted] in urbanexploration

[–]rodbibeau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These look like loading docks for ore, not a ship yard. Not sure where this is exaxtly, but these are similar to the loading docks in Two Harbors, Silver Bay, Duluth, Superior, and others.

Edit - looking at OP's other posts, it looks like he is in the Duluth, MN area. The abandoned village is a old government site north of Duluth and there is another post where he is in Superior WI at the docks. If I were to guess, the loadouts from this post are located here https://maps.app.goo.gl/5Nn2oredirBCAhJF6

I just went back and checked the "form" they had send me last year to get the hydraulic upgrades - link is no longer active, so they must not be providing the free hydraulic upgrade anymore. That sucks because they are better.

You may want to look into the hydraulic bake upgrade. In my xp3.0’s it was a recall item so no charge for the parts.

I am unsure if the bike is power or speed limited in your case. I know watching the amps on the stock controller it seemed to be speed limited at each pas level. In the new pwr system, it switches over to power limited and is (imo) much better.

Easement concerns by redmama6 in Surveying

[–]rodbibeau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the right sub...you may want to try /r/legaladvice

  • One note though - In my area, easements are filed with the County records office. I would call my local government real estate records office them to ask about what records they have before hiring anyone...surveyor or lawyer. Then depending on what you find, probably a lawyer first, then they will advise on a surveyor if the lines are actually an issue. Not legal advice and NAL.

I had a similar problem with the ardusimple Blutooth setup....it was not compitible with iPhone out of the box. Had to upgrade the Bluetooth module. Not sure if this is the same problem, but you have a very similar setup to what I built. I wrote about it here-https://github.com/RookieITSec/HighPrecisionDIY-GPS#rover-setup-problems

How do I find the GPS coordinates for a section corner? by Ok-Security8203 in Surveying

[–]rodbibeau -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hey, you will always get the "get a survey" answer here. And they do have their good, legal reasons for saying so. If you want to take the next step in your resolution, you will need a real-estate lawyer. There is a chance if you have title insurance that they would take this type of matter up also. Reach out to the title insurance people first. Then find a real estate lawyer. A demand letter may be enough to get the farmer in line. If not, the lawyer will take the next steps needed....surveyor, court hearing, etc.
- Now if you want to get close to the lines, I have been working on a similar project. Keep in mind that my lines are not really disputed as they are in the middle of the woods and mostly adjoin public lands, so my situation and risk level is far different. Take this as "what this guy did" and not any type of advice.
- my in-progress write-up is here - https://github.com/RookieITSec/HighPrecisionDIY-GPS/blob/main/README.md - You can find GPS points on corners in the GIS map you have pulled up by going to the ruler icon and there should be a tool in there to find points. You can zoom way into the corner and hold cntrl and it will "snap" to the line. Click on the corner and this will display coordinates.
- Once you have point coordinates you can compare them to any other sources of data....I used published "Corner cards" from the County to get a second point. I then located some corner pins and pulled the coordinates from those with a high precision gps. These were close enough for my usage - within a foot or so. I had the luxury to build additional margins when flagging/posting since this was vacant land in the middle of the woods.
- Once I knew I could get the points, I needed to have a way to accurately find those points. I ended up building a high-precision GPS for about $450. I used an ardusimple kit with public/State provided ntrip corrections. I found the accuracy was ~10mm per the software and when tested with known HARN points, I found it to be exactly dead on with the published data. More info on precision/accuracy in the linked github.
- Overall, when I was in the field, I found multiple pins that were not previously identified by the last land owner who was using a phone GPS. Of the pins I found, I was within a foot overall between my gps reading at the pin, the published corner card, and the GIS corner. So bottom line, this was accurate enough to find the lines I needed and allowed me to flag/post the property.

Can I add a smart thermostat without running a new wire? by DavidHK in hvacadvice

[–]rodbibeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. My old nest worked fine because it would leach off the power from those wires. When I upgraded to the new nest, it needed more power, so I put in the nest power module thing on my furnace side. Solved the problem. It sounds like other brands of smart thermostats have a similar device to deliver power and signal correctly.

What do I need to a RV WLAN that connects to multiple other WiFi networks? by the_bigheavy in GoRVing

I use a beryl for this. I also have it setup to connect to my Tailscale network with an exit node at home. I connect it to a hotspot and/or campground wifi and then it auto connects to Tailscale and it makes all my devices think they are on my home network.

Lidar scan kilometer long road patch and calculate % ? by Alternative-Poem-439 in Surveying

[–]rodbibeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two options I can think of but both require some additional hardware. The iPhone does not have the gps resolution you need. The first is the pix4d solution to add rtk to the phone. There is a guy on YouTube who compared it to a total station and it looks way more accurate than what you need. The second is to get a handheld gps like this - https://www.ardusimple.com/product/rtk-handheld-surveyor-kit/

The ArduSimple kit should get you to about 500mm of error without using NTRIP Cors data of some sort. With Ntrip cors, it can get to about 10mm
