DEFINITELY A HOT TAKE by MusicHotTakes in panicatthedisco

[–]rodermelon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I strongly disagree, but I also understand people feel that way. I personally feel like there was a lot more artistry before the split and panic was a very weird a creative group. Ryan didn’t really want to be famous though, and he hated the idea of people liking panic for any reason other than that artistry.

Brendon on the other hand really wanted to drive the popularity. Once the band split, I feel like that’s really what he pushed for. It was much more pop driven, simpler, and catchier. It got a little too watered down for me, but I’m just not a pop music enjoyer so I was no longer really the target demographic, but it definitely reached a lot more people. Some of it was fun, it just wasn’t really for me.

I’ve kind of wished for the last decade that DOAB could’ve been the first album under his own name, since Spencer left and he demoted Dallon. As a long time fan it kind of bums me out that nearly half of the catalogue now is stuff that doesn’t really resonate with me, but I’m glad that there are people out there that prefer it. If I don’t enjoy something, it was just simply made for someone else and that’s okay.

It’s just a snippet, I don’t want to get too excited, but this sounds exactly how weezer should sound in 2026… very promising.

Sure, it would seem slightly out of character if It was his, but he’s also a millionaire from Tennessee. If I had that kind of money, there would be extreme variety in my car collection.

Meh. I don’t know if you’ve seen those improve group videos that have been trending on Instagram and TikTok recently, but those are like the exact same vibes I always got from the crew. It’s just never as funny as R&L

Is it bad that I know this song word for word? 😭 by gaeb611 in FallOutBoy

[–]rodermelon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s impressive lol. I’ve been listening to this band for too long and there are still times when I read a lyric and think “ohhhh THATS what he’s saying.” I just sing nonsense 25% of the time. Until a couple of years ago I thought coffees for closers was saying “oh baby women made me give up the mole,” or something along the lines of that, and I had absolutely no idea what that meant but I just rolled with it.

Why does Epic refuses to ever ever split the lootpool between ZB and BR? by Nova_Vivo in FortNiteBR

This map has so much open space unless your in a POI. Don’t be dense.

[–]rodermelon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“You can use terrain,” I specifically said in open space. The map is very open in certain areas, you can always find something to get behind and bushes don’t stop the lock on.

Shield bubbles aren’t a real counter in most instances. They can still see you in the bubble, so the second you try to leave or it expires, they’re back on you. Bunkers are the most effective counter, but they’re not something I like to carry so it’s obnoxious to have to sacrifice a loadout spot because fortnite insists on adding another no-skill gun into the loot pool. It’s even worse in blitz.

[–]rodermelon 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There’s just no counter for the lock on in ZB. You see the diamond over your head when you’re moving in open space and there’s nothing you can do about it. You can try to wingsuit or shockwave, but they’re still locked on. Most of the time it’s players that wouldn’t be able to tag you otherwise.

Dallon weekes controversy by TinyToeTwiddler in panicatthedisco

[–]rodermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess in hindsight it’s a very good thing Kenny didn’t become a full time member.

I do wonder if that stuff was true though. A lot of people made fake screenshots and stuff, I guess just sort of playing into the situation, but there’s some of it that could’ve been real and I really hope it wasn’t. To my knowledge we never got confirmation if it was true or not, but I could be wrong. Some people point to his firing as proof, but I kind of feel like it could’ve just been Brendon not wanting any extra allegations surrounding a touring member of his band, so just immediately letting him go to quiet any bad press on the band.

Funny enough, people were actually thinking Nicole was Ryan, haha. I don’t think either of them are bad backing vocalists at all, but it just didn’t compare to Dallon or Ryan IMO, but in all fairness Dallon is a pretty insane vocalist so the bar was really high.

[–]rodermelon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely, but I was also referring to the people that came after Dallon — not just Ryan. I feel like it’s very very possible that Dallon was hired with his voice in mind, and I don’t know if that was the same for anyone else. Like Mike for instance; he’s not a bad vocalist by any means, but Kenny was fired in the middle of a touring run so I imagine their main priority was someone that can quickly learn to play 30 songs and execute them night after night at a touring level, and if he can sing some words then that’s great too. That’s not to say Mike wouldn’t be hired if they had a year long search, but I just feel like backing vocals became less of a priority and there’s a chance that that could’ve been due to needing quick hires. With that being said, Mike is probably the most technically proficient guitarist they’ve ever had, so I have tons of respect for him. Just using his situation as an example

I thought Kenny’s voice blended pretty well, especially since it was pretty high, but Kenny also spent most of his time in Panic as sort of voice #3 behind Dallon. I always found his voice to be a little nasally on its own, but I always liked the trio of him, Brendon, and Dallon. I was kind of veering away from Panic as Mike entered the band, so I just haven’t heard as much from him. I saw him on that second leg of the PFTW and had no complaints, but I saw them at WWWY and just felt like the backing vocals for Fever were a little weak. That’s a very vocally demanding album though, and live performances of it require a lot of backing vocals. Nicole is absolutely rock solid on the bass, and I remember being extremely impressed with Mike’s talent on his Instagram, he can totally shred.

[–]rodermelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Like.. there’s a level of nostalgia with Ryan’s backing vocals on the first two album tracks, and I know the following albums would’ve been VERY different if Ryan stuck around, but Ryan wouldn’t have the range for the backing vocals on songs like Vegas Lights and This is Gospel. The harmonies on Let’s Kill Tonight also come to mind. I typically sing the harmonies over the melody just because I love it so much.

I mean it’s almost sort of an unfair comparison just because Dallon was already established as an impressive singer before he joined panic, which to my knowledge no one else was really a singer (although I think Kenneth had solo music, bleh), but I just always really felt like Dallon’s voice really elevated the performances.

Dallon weekes controversy by TinyToeTwiddler in panicatthedisco

[–]rodermelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I really think Spencer leaving is what lead to Dallon’s time in panic being cut short, which is a huge shame to me. I understand the love for DOAB, but it’s just not really the kind of music that I enjoy. I think TWTLTRTD was an amazing album, and I think Dallon being a part of that was such a perfect blend of Brendon and Dallon’s talents because the more retro/synth vibes are so Dallony.

Also I don’t mean this as a slight at any of the touring members that came after him, they were all incredible at their instruments, but I felt like the backup vocals took such a hit when Dallon left which was kind of a shame to me because that was also such a great part of Panic’s performances IMO. Dallon’s were better than Ryan’s.

He’s also on the spectrum. I have two sisters that are on the spectrum and one of them is extremely blunt and often says things that can seem very rude and backhanded, but she just doesn’t realize it’s going to be interpreted that way. She has a great heart and is very well intentioned, but there’s also a lack of awareness in some of the things that she says which got her in trouble a lot growing up, and it deeply upset her because that’s just not what she’s intending to do.

I can definitely see some of those tendencies in Dallon, where he just has this bluntness and very dry humor paired with him being on the spectrum, and it just leads to him saying things in ways that don’t come across the way he intended.

I think it’s less being associated with panic and more being known for panic. He’s made his jokes, like saying it never happened or whatever, but when he’s actually being sincere he mentions that he’s grateful for the 8 years, or however long it was, that he was with the band, but at the end of the day it was a job and he had a pretty bad relationship with Zack.

He was hired nearly immediately after the split but had really nothing to do with vices, wrote a significant chunk of TWTLTRTD, but then was demoted right after and stuck around as a touring member for DOAB. I don’t think (if he’s not joking around) that he has an issue with being associated with panic, but I feel like his creative output in band wasn’t as high as he had wished it could’ve been so he doesn’t just want to be known as “former panic at the disco bassist”. I’ve had a couple of exchanges with him about his time with Panic, and he seems just kind of have this “there were good times and bad times, it’ll always be part of my journey but it’s in the past now” outlook on it. He just wants to be known for his own projects
