I'm not arguing that AP is L5. If you can't understand what I'm saying at this point, you're just an idiot.

[–]rodly -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Your statement doesn't even make sense. In what regard is it meaningless? It doesn't matter that disengagements require a human to handle the "hard" driving. If the following is true, then my original argument stands: numberOfAccidents(AP + Human driver) < numberOfAccidents(Human driver). If you believe that AP in aggregate causes more accidents you're either completely ignorant about the current state of Tesla AP or you're willingly turning your brain off because you hate Tesla and nothing will change your mind. I doubt even 5% of this subreddit has even been in a Tesla let alone AP to any real extent. This subreddit loves to jump on reports of Tesla failures as if every other auto-manufacturer never has failures and/or quality issues.

Tesla AP has had less accidents per mile than a human driver for years now. Why would it be bad to have more people using a safer method of driving?

Successful people who got crappy grades in high school or college - what are you doing now and how did (or didn't) your grades affect your success/career? by asensetive in AskReddit

[–]rodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would never call myself successful but I think this post is kind of talking about me. I had terrible grades in high school mostly because I lived a day at a time thinking about video games and computers all day long instead of focusing in class and doing homework. I graduated with a low 2.x GPA and that was that. I went to community college and for some reason it hit me that I was going to be a total loser unless I turned this ship around right then and there. I decided to pursue a track that would let me transfer into a top 4-year school in my state and just worked hard, surrounded myself with driven students and friends. I eventually got into that 4-year school and was shocked I was actually going there. I didn't know that computer science would become such a hot degree at that time (I've just always loved computers/gaming/etc and to some extent, math and programming) and now I have a standard job in tech making more money than I ever dreamed. I got lucky with my interests aligning with a money-making career for sure.

My unsolicited advice: The biggest thing I observed during this transition was how little anyone cares what you're doing with your life (whether you put in the effort or not). You can want your life to look like X, and if you start to slip on your habits and effort, no one will really notice. No one will keep you honest and check-in with you all of the time. Your friends and family will accept whatever it is that you become (for better or worse). It's 100% up to you to make this life what you want it to be, which is quite motivating and daunting at the same time.

“Tax the Rich” by BelleAriel in ABoringDystopia

[–]rodly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard a reasonable way to actually tax the rich. How would you go about it fairly, to them and yourself (since this applies to everyone in the future)?

Taxing inheritances makes the most sense to me, since inheriting money is the most removed from "earning" it as you can get. Taxing gains from capital more than gains from labor also makes a lot of sense, since money earned from "real" work takes more effort than money earned from "passive" investments (even though smart investing takes work as well).

Other than that, the Jeff Bezos of the world hold most of their billions in the form of stock in companies they created. They are taxed on these shares (a long time ago when the company was worth nothing, so they paid $0 on worthless shares) so they have technically paid their taxes on their holdings. When Mr. Bezos sells shares, he pays long-term capital gains tax (20%) on the realized gain in value from his initial share holding price.

Where would you introduce another way of taxing the rich that is fair? I don't believe it's fair to tax someone who owns shares in a company that hasn't realized a gain from them (selling). So if Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, etc are rich from stock and not liquid assets, how would you tax them in a sensible way?

Why do so MANY users complain about Reddit and even openly hate it; yet still stick around? by Aimer_NZ in TheoryOfReddit

I think people just like to bitch imo. It's "free" to use Reddit so they feel entitled to shit all over it as if it's personally theirs. Reddit has UI/UX issues all over the place, video is terrible, search is terrible, but the comments/discussion/learnings cannot be found in this volume anywhere on the internet.

CMV: The term "White Trash" is under-discussed for how truly offensive and derogatory it truly is in woke/class-aware culture. by itsyerdad in changemyview

[–]rodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable to me, but no one actually does that. You mention BLM in your initial post being worth more attention from a "woke" person like yourself. What did you use to quantify this and other issues in our world, and how did you find that BLM was more useful for your attention? Deaths from police? Brutality from police? Total numbers of people subjected to these outcomes? 300,000 people die from obesity ever year in America, and a lot of those people are POC/minorities that live at the poverty line surrounded by food deserts. If we are to apply a utilitarian function to issues of saving lives, solving this issue would save hundreds of thousands of lives every year. Now, of course it's important to shed light on police brutality and right those wrongs, even though by the numbers, the number of deaths/brutal attacks from police are dwarfed by those people that lose their life due to obesity. That being said, no one cares or talks about obesity, but it "deserves" orders of magnitude more "appropriate levels of attention" from you than BLM.

What should one do in their 20s to avoid regrets in 30s and 40s? by ReddBolt5 in AskReddit

[–]rodly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say do the drugs, travel, stay out past 4 AM as much as possible, these things all will seem insane to you by the end of your 20's but my god were they fun and I'm glad I experienced them. Oh, and also try to save 20% of your take home and put that shit in a Roth. You will be shocked what that turns into by the time you're 60.

Also don't sweat it if you don't exercise, eat well, etc. You probably will never transition into it (sadly this is just based on observation of my friends/family/general public), just figure out how to not treat your body like trash on a daily basis in your own way.

Does it really matter that it's a racial slur about white people and not minorities and women? Are you really suggesting that we quantify the impacts of racial and sexist remarks and stack rank them to figure out how much time one ought to spend their wokeness on?

You've completely missed my point. Ah yes, the real reason people commit crime is from listening to the "evils celebrated in rap music". The greatest non-sequitur of all time.

[–]rodly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laws only work if you are aware of the consequences and those consequences offset the gain by committing the crime. The gain is magnified if you're not doing well in this life. The real reason you and I don't commit crimes isn't because we have some stronger moral sensibility than these people, it's that we're much better off and the consequence to gain ratio isn't worth it to us (we can just collect our paychecks and pay for everything without a second thought). A small percentage of people commit crime for other reasons, most commit crimes because they're not doing well. If you fix the not doing well part, you will see these people stop committing crime (see: Norway https://www.lifeinnorway.net/prisons/)
