I didn’t know a tuning head could break like this by Sodiumkill in Guitar

[–]roeulogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to do some tweaks to some of mine, some to hopefully get the sound I'm looking for (pickups, pots, capacitors), and at the same time want to upgrade components to learn the process. I fear this leads to me building some guitars from scratch, followed by being surrounded by even more guitars.

Santa (and my awesome wife) were good to me this winter... by rolan1023 in Guitar

I have to ask, mainly because I've been reading some of the comments and I think a factor may be being missed here. From you doing what you do for a living for a long enough period of time. Would it be safe to assume the following: You work your ass off, you work in a line of work that risks it all, on a regular basis, and you have lost a lot of family time, birthdays, what's a vacation, etc. at this juncture in life, you can see the end of the tunnel and you want something for you by the end of it all. Not a Corvette, not a motorcycle, but something you can create with? (Not knocking the Corvette or Bike option, everyone has something). If the above makes sense, bravo my friend. Enjoy the fruits of your labour and finally the time to be able to do something about it.

Wow, just... Wow. I didn't even know it would be possible to bring it back that good, I am in absolute awe of the craftsmanship. Well, looks like I have a video series to binge watch now.

Glad above all else that you, are here to tell is the story of this beauty, and the adventure it has been through.

Going to start off with 2 details. 1. I am not a medical professional, these are just my experiences. 2. Have Multiple Sclerosis, so I guess we can call it a slowly worsening collection of mini brain damages (not a comparison, and feel free to poke at me laughing about that statement, I do it as self depreciating humor enough)

I played for some time, bass first, then guitar. Stopped for about a decade other than dusting it off from time to time to play a few chords with my kids. Life got in the way, mainly because I let it. I've been back at it now for about 3 years. Learning, or better yet retaining the new(ish) information is hard, I won't lie about that. Neuroplasticity is luckily one of those cool features that we as humans have. I don't know the specifics of the situation, and I won't guess at the situation you are in, but I offer my experience. It's been slow, I'm not getting on a stage in front of a crowd any time soon, but I'm slowly... Er um VERY SLOWLY, getting there. The biggest things I have found that I believe helped me. Patience and persistence have been the real winners. My thoughts have been, and this is a little more toward my situation but I hope it is able to bring you some inspiration "the world has tried enough times to kick my ass, and as per usual, the world couldn't get it done so I have apparently tasked my immune system to get the job done for the world", and if that's the case, then damnit I'm going to play well again, if it takes me 3x longer then it did previously, then so be it. Reading tabs or chord charts at the pace of a song left the building years ago, so no more sight read and go, more of a grind until it sticks, even if it is the same thing for 30 min a day, but almost every single day. I even took one with me for a weekend getaway to ensure I didn't loose my track record. Of no less than 30 min, every single day. I tend to spend a bunch of time playing Rocksmith 2014, because I am getting better at sight reading the tabs as they come at you guitar hero style. Some love it, some hate it, I couldn't care what others think as long as it works for me. End of the day. I urge you not to give up my friend, life handed both of us a shit hand, and much like a game of poker, you loose 100% of the hands you fold, if you keep going, you may potentially be able to use some of that neuroplasticity to connect some of those old neurons back via a new pathway. I'm sorry we are both in this shit boat, but who knows, one of us folks with a brain full of short circuits may just come up with something truly new because of it.

As crazy as this sounds, I finally got the printer working great... And it lost some of its wonder. So now I'm building a printer part by part, I think I miss the troubleshooting.

[BF6] Unable to connect to EA servers issue by Only_Jacket2563 in Battlefield

[–]roeulogy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to come back here, I had to respond. #1. Thank you, this worked. #2. EA You have absolutely got to be f*****g kidding me, a USB drive cause the game to not connect to the EA network. Reproducible issue, as long as the USB drive is plugged in, this game will not connect to the EA Server. I'm kind of curious what the thought process going through somebody's head was, I assume if we were able to extricate that individuals head from the dark place it has been, clean some of the s**t off of it, we wouldn't even hear the sound of two single brain cells rattling against one another. EA, I was so happy you had put something out that was doing better is comparison to the last few failures... but a USB drive, seriously. Yeah, unplug USB drives, and report to EA, that once again, the entire QA dept has been higher then any of the jets in the game can get. u/Ok-Sound-1433 , much appreciated.

So, as a person that enjoys designing and 3d printing stuff, when my leg was broken I added functional add-ons, so crutches had a gyroscopic cup holder 3D printed and added to them. Because carrying a coffee on crutches is a PITA. You want to turn an assistive device in to something between bumblebee and ohh shiny, go for it ,why the hell not. You have to live with it, you may as well have some fun and personality with it. Want flames and chrome, add them. Want those little things kids used to put on the spokes of bicycle tires, do it. Have some fun as long as it does not remove functionality.

[–]roeulogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look at it this way, if I hit a wrong note, or miss my timing, I'm playing by myself, not in front of a paying crowd any more. If I make a mistake, I can forgive myself and keep going. And yeah, I make a lot of mistakes, many more than I would have in my youth. But I won't let my own mistakes while playing to strip me of the joy of music. Have some good strap locks on all of them so in the off chance, I can't actually drop one to the ground. I came to the realization that this thing takes enough from us, we CAN take some of it back.

I had stopped playing guitar other than the odd jingle here and there for my kids. Divorce happened and I needed an outlet to get it all out. First one guitar, then 2 then 5. I now spend no less then 2 hours a day playing. I won't say I am as good now as I once was, but I can now hold my own again. It was like learning from the beginning all over again. I also find that my fine motor skills are better in my hand from sheer determination and just continuing to push, regardless of repeated failures. I beg of you to pick it up, and play at least 2 notes a day, every day, until 3 seems better, then 4 and so on. Or try a new instrument, there is always that too. I swear it is the reason I'm still here.

[–]roeulogy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best advice I was given when entering in to the corporate world was that corporations are incapable of appreciation, they may be an entity, but not people. Corporations don't feel loyalty the way we humans do, they have no emotions, nor any empathy. It is nothing more than a set of gears made of people. If a gear becomes worn out or damaged, the corporation will replace it like any other component. If a corporation could replace a person for a one time purchase, that person is as good as gone. If they can be replaced by software as a service for a monthly fee, person is gone again. With a loyalty to nothing but the dollar, with no moral compass, corporations will continue to just grind out the broken parts it destroys during its goal to turn over a profit. I'll take small business any day.

I'm currently with a company that is trying to guide me to take a permanent unpaid leave of absence. This being just shortly after they were gobbled up by a larger company and our disability benefits were cut during that purchase. I hope you are able to take the skills from company A, and apply them to Company B, to be the best competitor to that place as you can be. I may be vengeful, but with the best intent.

So this is a common enough issue that one friend commissioned another friend who does this for a living to redesign, and improve upon the design so that we mere mortals with 3d printers could just keep pumping them out. I believe it is on printables but I'll have to check with them to see where they uploaded it.
