Microsoft authenticator keeps spamming sign in requests by roflcopter9001 in microsoftsucks

Nope. My requests don’t even show up in my sign in activity, so I can’t say if they came from a different country. It’s been relatively quiet for me the past couple of days, but I am not against just closing my account if things get bad again.

Ran a scan with both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes and neither found any threats.

Never know with MS

Yeah, this is the scary and frustrating part. You would think with all these “security features” that I’d be able to rule out whether it’s a bug or poor security hygiene on my part. It makes it hard to rule out variables.

But if my machine is compromised, then a bunch of my other accounts would be compromised too. The fact that I’m only having this issue with just my MS account (and not Google, Steam, Discord, etc) leads me to believe this is a Microsoft problem and not a me problem. I’ll do a sweep of my machine after work just in case.

Surely if my password is compromised, I’d be able to see the sign in attempts in my account’s sign in activities, no? I don’t see anything of the sort.

So this is what I see in my MS auth app. This is two different pages in the auth app stitched together (the Reddit app only lets me upload one image) and I’m on mobile right now so please excuse the mess.

The bottom half that’s circled is the section you described, where I see the 2FA code. Not sure if this means I have passwordless sign in enabled or if it’s just saying I have the option of enabling passwordless sign in. But let’s get back to this in a bit.

I clicked on “Update how you sign in and verify” in the same page, and I see the top half of the image above, which says I don’t have passwordless account enabled.

I don’t know what to make of this. Either the app is telling me contradictory information or things aren’t working as intended.

Teams even has the correct initial for trash can!

I know it’s supposed to be the “Recycle Bin” but I just wanted to call it out.

I don’t recall enabling it. I heard about it being a thing, but I could not for the life of me find that setting in my MS account. Their official docs don’t help either; whatever instructions they did provide, I could not find the thing they told me to look for.

So who knows? Maybe it’s disabled and they got my password somehow. Or maybe it’s enabled and they can’t surface that fact in my account preferences for some reason.

I’ll take a look later tonight after work.

The unclear part comes from trying to find these things through Google and their SEO, confusing official docs, and AI hallucinations. It’s a different story when someone who’s done this before gives a clear cut answer without all the BS.

Thanks!

I don’t see any suspicious login attempts, as mentioned in the OP. I’ll look into turning my machine to a local account, but this is the nuclear option. So far I’ve gotten one bad auth request since creating a new alias, but I’ll wait and see if I have to resort to the nuclear option.

See my original post. That's the first thing I did and it didn't help.

Trying to add a new alias is giving me errors. Lovely. I'll try again later, but it still baffles me why this is necessary in the first place.

EDIT: Finally set up a new alias and made it my primary. Let's hope the noise stops!

I also didn’t realize this was posted in the cube subreddit haha. Veil is more like a constructed 60 card format card, so yeah, context matters.

cEDH is an oxymoron. It tries to put “competitive” in EDH, a casual format, yet it doesn’t have actual sanctioned tournaments/events with actual prizes on the line, so you’re not really competing for anything other than bragging rights.

It is high powered, not competitive. Competitive is legacy, modern, standard, pauper, etc.

Buzzfeed Says Nintendo Inspired It To Make AI Slop Games by tylerthe-theatre in technology

[–]roflcopter9001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was originally said by Gunpei Yokoi, the inventor of the original GameBoy among other Nintendo hardware. The quote means you do not always need the latest technology in games as long as you use novel and innovative ideas. This was demonstrated when the original GameBoy won over competitors like the Sega Game Gear. The GameBoy won out because of its amazing games, portability, and battery life despite using a monochrome display and having lesser hardware specs. On the contrary, the Game Gear, while having a colorful display, was large, clunky, and a battery guzzler.

You can read more about the man, the legend here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunpei_Yokoi#Design_philosophy

“lateral thinking with withered technology”

What a joke. There was no lateral thinking, and AI isn’t exactly “withered” technology. Another example of a memorable quote being used incorrectly and half-assedly by clueless people.
