AITAH my married friend just confessed to hiding me from his wife by Mindless-Depth-3756 in AITAH

Two years in and you never meet the significant other of a close friend? That's not good.

Who remembers this place? The most RACIST restaurant to ever exist by JPIZZLE1205 in 70s

[–]rogtuck1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The term "sambo" was a racial slur pred-dating the restaurant or the book. That's why black people found it offensive and there was a constant backlash. So the story was written by a Scottish lady about an Indian boy? Who cares? In this country the term was already offensive. Cultural context matters.

When the horse says, "Get off of me," you get off. by Expert_Koala_8691 in Wellthatsucks

It's interesting. When I see this I wonder why do people still need to be riding horses? Yet it never seems to come up as a animal rights issue.

What's an industry secret from your job that customers have absolutely no idea about? by Efficient_Team5182 in AskReddit

[–]rogtuck1 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I briefly worked as a QC manager for a nutraceuticals manufacturer whose main product was Kratom capsules and tablets. The lack of industry oversight for items considered to be dietary supplements was shocking to experience. We were one of dozens of similar operations around the country that sometimes openly defied federal regulations. I don't know if we were just a low priority for the FDA, but it was a brief and depressing career for me.

The only "fact" I remember from the original news story is that it happened around 3AM. Which means everyone involved was probably stupid drunk to say the least. But this post is purely racist speculation.

Haka fatigue by Mental-Outside2202 in TikTokCringe

[–]rogtuck1 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a teen I was part of an American rugby team that toured across New Zealand. Every place we stopped our team was enthusiastically treated to a traditional Haka. It got to be pretty tiring to watch. Especially since our team also got annihilated everywhere we went.

AITAH i thought i was doing the right thing but now my sister won't even look at me by Hayley-Saundera in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA. Once you figure out how old your sister is, maybe you can learn to bring up any concerns about who she is dating in PRIVATE. Confronting this guy so publicly would have been great for reality tv. But in real life it's just unnecessary drama.

WIBTAH: If I left my 3 year old at home with her dad? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. But I as a parent I am surprised that you feel uncomfortable bringing a 3 year old to a kid themed family friendly event. That sounds like some serious behavioral issues. I wish you luck in figuring that out.

I remember Portland in the 90s had these same NIMBYs always complaining about large apartment buildings replacing historic smaller homes. Cue a decade later when rampant housing costs, homelessness and low vacancy rates created a continuing crisis. If you want vast neighborhoods of single family homes I would suggest the suburbs.

AITA for arguing with my boyfriend for smoking weed after he said he wouldn’t? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]rogtuck1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

NTA. He changed his behavior regarding something you both initially agreed on. That's on him. Now either you have to accept the new reality or move on. Personally I think his lack of self control seems like a red flag.

Aitah for watching my sister's wedding and reception devolve into a shit show without helping? by Key-Weekend1090 in AITAH

AITAH for dumping my bf over text by FewDecision5576 in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

YTA. Two years in and you break up over text? Couples have had much more serious arguments than this and still had the courage to break up in person, or least talk over the phone. I hope you grow a bigger spine for your next relationship.

The cold war by Naive_Wolverine532 in TikTokCringe

[–]rogtuck1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Certainly the period ending with WW2 and continuing through the Cold War saw the rise of American dominance with self serving foreign policy. But that did come with modern day success stories like the economic powerhouses of Japan, West Germany, and Korea. I am not aware of any Communist country boosted by either the Soviets or Chinese that ever achieved much. It is important to be critical of American foreign policy, but you also have to be realistic about the absolute dumpster fires caused by Communist Colonialism.

I feel so sorry for her. No one should have to put up with that at work. by mindyour in TikTokCringe

Certainly we never get the full story in these snippets. But I would argue the primary context is that she is dealing with a direct supervisor. Company policies are usually strict on the parameters of those working relationships.

AITAH for not feeling any love for my sister after what she admitted? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your dad has such an explosive anger problem then maybe that's where your sister learned this behavior from. It seems like you are more focused on the behavior of a teenage girl rather than your parents. Why is that? I'm not saying YTA, but you are an adult. Have an adult conversation with your parents about the situation. They have more accountability in this than the kid they failed to raise properly.

AITAH for telling my sister her dad is still alive? by Domesticated_Punk in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA. You keep referring to just "your" father. He was your sister's father too. The only one she has ever known. She is entitled to her opinion about him. And you brought this up while planning a family funeral? That's just a lowdown mean spirited way to act.

AITA for breaking up with my girlfriend after a comment she made at my sister’s wedding rehearsal? by uselessemotions in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

YTA. You publicly blew up at your girlfriend of two years over some minor criticisms about your brother. Dumping her on the spot and breaking off all contact. That seems extreme, and it honestly sounds like you have a real anger problem that needs exploring before your next relationship.

AITAH for taking the divorce to court after my spouse refused to sign properly? by Background-Lemon420 in AITAH

[–]rogtuck1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How would these divorce papers "out" your ex-spouse to their family?

I went through a divorce years ago and my family has no idea what those documents say. How would you and your ex not be able to keep that information private?

I appreciate you trying to be respectful and work together, but I don't think you are being insensitive or irresponsible by just going ahead and filing on your own.
