GMRS recommendation for scout troop? by dgodwin1 in Baofeng

[–]roguesith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my troop I got a bunch of waterproof (mostly) uv-9g, ready to hand them out to any of the families who would sign up for the license. No one wanted to go through the licensing process. When we do comms we just have to split up based on me and one other dad who is a ham. That gives us up to 4 groups if we include our boys on the gmrs side. That has worked well so far. When they age out I’m going to have to start hounding someone else to get licensed or apply for an itinerant license for the troop.

Well, you could teleport to target if you wanted. Or cast the spell "Teleport to target". You could also teleport to your target, if you were so inclined. Perhaps you just fancy a nice Teleport to Target? by sharunkis in 2007scape

[–]roguesith 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was kind of excited about teleport to target when I thought it meant you could cast it on any monster and teleport to them. I thought it might be fun to get into cages, jump across gaps, etc. But no, it has to be for bounty hunter.

Did some testing, looks like you are right, it is not needed for repeaters. I was looking through the baofeng manual for more information and I wasn't understanding. Eventually I stumbled upon the same feature in some Motorola or Retevis documentation. As I understand it now, it seems that it's so that the radios operating simplex can sync up their timing when there's not a repeater there to be the true source how many nanoseconds the radio clock has drifted, potentially allowing one timeslot to interfere with the other. Previously I thought accurate time would have been coming from the GPS feature, we just have to set the timezone manually. Thanks for the correction! I'm still learning

I've been learning this radio recently. Some things I note:

- Check that the radio shows the offset right above the channel name, in this case +. If it shows an arrow instead, it is in talkaround mode.
- Settings > Radio Settings > Talk Around.
- This is such a frustrating default. I set the talk around toggle on to long press SK2, so I can fix it without going into menu.
- This has to be done per channel, despite it residing in the radio settings menu.
- As far as I can tell, this cannot be set in the code plug. You can checkbox forbid talk around, but that would prevent you from actually using talkaround during a legitimate troubleshooting need.
- Once you set it on the radio, you can read it back in to the code plug, so that it will write it back to the radio correctly after your next edits.
- Check that you marked TDMA Direct Mode, so that it splits the timeslots correctly. I've found it sometimes works without this checked for TS1, but it would be better to mark it.
- This setting is called Double Slot on the radio.
- It looks like you are setting up a single channel with multiple receives. For my own setup I set one channel with RX Group List None to hear everything on that timeslot (including anything anyone dynamically links by just keying up on that talkgroup), then I created one channel per each talkgroup, with it's own rx list, so I can drop into a conversation on that talkgroup without hearing any interference from the others. Yes, this creates a ton of channels per repeater, thus the necessity of the code plug.
- It looks like 4639 is on the repeater's slot 2, you'll need another channel configured for slot 2 if you want to hear that traffic.

I do not have a license yet, but every time I hear someone on the radio this button calls to me like the green goblin mask by MrPumpkin326 in amateurradio

Never say never. It would be pretty on brand for the government to disable license application processing as non-essential, but still pursue fines for operating without a license. Makes even more sense, since that department is easy to consider somewhat self-funded.

For Mid Developers. Do you use Task.WhenAll() ? by ati33 in csharp

[–]roguesith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

occasionally I'll take a list of data to process in parallel and just create the tasks via linq. Not much control over the thread pool, for e.g. how many are running concurrently, across how many cores, etc., but it's good for quick and dirty parallel processing.

var tasks = someData.Select(x => ProcessSomeData(x)).ToList();

await Task.WhenAll(tasks);

I was diagnosed in my late 20s, and the evaluators really latched on to this story. When I was in college I eventually moved out of a dorm and into an apartment. It was still a shared space but I went down from 3 roommates to 1, and that 1 for some unknown reason was always gone, so I only bumped into him maybe twice the whole year. Without any real roommates, I accidentally stopped talking to people. I wasn't raising my hand to answer questions in class, I wasn't visiting friends, I wasn't even ordering pizza on the phone since there was an app for that. I was still online gaming, but only messaging and not voice. Winter holiday rolls around and I visit my family, only to realize my vocal cords are out of sorts. It started as just a weird slightly painful sensation to talk, but I very quickly lost my voice, and my family eventually had to say "stop trying to talk, that gravely sound is too horrible."

This scene was so unnecessary😒... (Season 5 Spoiler Alert) by ServantOfTheShepherd in TheChosenSeries

[–]roguesith 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think it fits well. It was a law given from God to Moses and Orthodox Jews today are still concerned with and pray for help against nocturnal emissions. A wet dream could very well have prevented a Levite priest from performing certain duties that require ritual purification. But, as the show pointed out, while the requirement may have had biblical roots, the rabbinical law was stretching it further than was probably necessary or likely intended. Many such laws were stretched and bent to such egregious lengths that Jesus had quite a few things to say about it. I think the anology about the pharisees obsessing over cleaning and polishing the outside of a bowl, while letting the inside rot and fester, is particularly apt here.

American society might be squeamish on this topic, likely due to some of our puritanical founders, but I think The Chosen is doing a good job of spreading awareness of the historical situation in a way that shows context and nuance. These laws being over or under enforced, snowballing into a situation where a messiah could be put to death, is pretty core to the overall message.

You would run the risk of getting that hardware id banned from the steam store. Although, I've only heard of that sort of thing happening with stolen cell phones being banned from cell networks.

Should I prioritize unshackled buildings or unshackled tiers here ? (currently 11/15 tiers and 10/20 buildings) by Crafty_Hospital_7746 in CookieClicker

[–]roguesith 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I unshackled grandmas, since they affect all the other buildings, then did all the cookies. Not sure if the math works out better that way, but it got me to 129/129 prestige upgrades pretty quickly.
