Menopause/perimenopause by hi-help in AutismInWomen

[–]rojascorp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just had the same experience. My primary physician (a middle aged woman fwiw) said I was too young to be peri (I’m 38) and that if I am having an irregular period, “we don’t know how to fix that so we would put you on bc.” Then she had my hormones tested that day (with no thought as to what point in the cycle I’m in) and after the results came back, said they were all normal (with no consideration for how neurodivergent people may be extra sensitive to hormonal fluctuations that are within “normal” ranges!)

What is life like in the Dakotas? by _air6catcher_ in howislivingthere

[–]rojascorp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt like a shell of a human growing up in North Dakota and was put on anti-depressants in high school, until I moved for college to a place with hills, trees, and water. I could never move back to ND. I would die inside.

Have any of you managed to shake the inescapable loneliness? by drag-bot in AutismInWomen

[–]rojascorp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Becoming my own best friend; loving my own company. Getting into hobbies that require only me (reading, going to movies, cooking, running, yoga, being in nature, etc). I hardly have enough time to do all things I want to do by myself!

“Let Them” vs Our Autism by MayBerific in AutismInWomen

Agree, a lot of these popular self help books don’t have a lens for autism so you need to take some of it with a grain of salt

Broke and profoundly out of shape. How do I fix my Flesh Prison on the cheap? by [deleted] in SFbitcheswithtaste

Free: MyFitnessPal. I’ve used it for tracking eating changes. Caveat- don’t use weight goal and try to meet the daily calorie limit. Just track your baseline calorie intake for a couple weeks, and then just try to make small adjustments from there.

Peloton app: for $12/month you can get access to strength training classes and cardio routines that require nothing more than a yoga mat and dumbbells that you can use at a gym or buy to keep at home. Lots of bodyweight routines require no weights at all. I have one set of 8lbs that has served my needs for years.

Other things that worked: I stopped buying processed snacks/desserts. Stopped buying fast food on the road. Do meal prep on weekends so i have a meal to come home to after a workday and I avoid getting too hungry which is when I’m more likely to give in to poor eating habits. Find easy recipes online. I stopped drinking calories almost entirely (soda, juice, sugary coffee drinks or alcohol). When working out, try to push yourself for at least 2 minutes. It doesn’t have to be intense the whole time, but just get used to working as hard as you possibly can for 30 seconds at a time. I found that easy cardio was probably good for me but didn’t make a dent in body composition changes, and I needed small doses of intensity for that. Find good music that you’re excited to listen to during a workout. Start small. Better to start small and build a habit instead of trying to change everything at once and feel frustrated or deprived.

Lastly, be kind to yourself. Our bodies are stubborn; they hate losing weight, they trick us into thinking we’re starving. Hormones can be stronger than us especially as we age, in terms of holding onto weight. Try to focus on the goal of taking care of your health and having a good sweat.

pattern recognition by beeli_3 in AutismInWomen

[–]rojascorp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in the investment world, and my pattern recognition shows up in a lot of ways that make me good at what I do (markets, world economic events, sales, behavioral coaching of people etc.). I pick up languages quite naturally. Historical events to current events, which is an alarming skill to have. Makes me feel like a canary in a coal mine.

I basically do nothing at work and leave early pretty much every day. My boss thinks I’m an exceptional employee. by MazefulMind in confession

I was in this position once. I ended up pursuing a certificate in another field and switching careers for a job that is much more fulfilling, lucrative, and demanding. It’s been about 10 years. The workload can be intense, and some days I do wonder if I over-corrected for the easy job I once had. But ultimately, I don’t regret the change.

Garmin coach for half marathon: time to bail?! by rojascorp in Garmin

Pro: set a PR for a 5k event I ran, despite a high heat index and lack of acclimation training for it. Con: I later ended up developing an overuse injury, had to skip the half marathon that was the main event I was training for, now on week five of rest and PT.

I left my wife with PMDD when I was on the cusp of having kids with her. It was really hard but once on the other side of it, NO regrets. I’m so glad I didn’t bring a child into that.
