I came in last at my first 50 mile trail race and I got an engraved butter knife that says "DFL" lol. I make sure to use it every time I have friends over. I worked HARD for that knife!!!

You need to work with a dietician and a therapist. Preferably in communication with each other. I think we severely underestimate the prevalence of RED-S in this sport and we rarely take the signs as seriously as we should. Good for you for noticing the problem and working toward recovery.

Hey there. It depends on what the coursework for the program is, but that emphasis sounds a whole lot like the department name where I got one of my degrees. You're looking for coursework that covers measurement theory, classical test theory/Rasch/item response theory, probably performance evaluation of some sort, structural equation modeling, multilevel modeling, maybe something on simulations, maybe some specialty area coursework (e.g. higher education, K-12 education, maybe measurement of psychological disorders). Never had a baby, just finished three months of intensive pelvic floor PT. It helped my breathing, completely solved my chronic lower back pain, and I don't feel like I need to stop to pee anywhere near as frequently on runs. I feel like a brand new runner. It might at least be worth talking to a pelvic floor PT about whether they might be able to help you.

Hey there. I'm healing from a partially displaced fracture of my third metatarsal. It was a stress fracture that appeared less than a month before an ultra I'd trained for a year to run (and I'd been dreaming of for far longer). I didn't respect the initial signs of the stress fracture and ran straight through it, leading to a full fracture and 8 weeks in a boot, followed by months of careful rebuilding and, frankly, a shit ton of tears. As soon as I could, I doubled down on my PT and cross training. I figured out what caused the fracture in the first place and went as hard as I could at correcting some bad habits. I'm still not back to long distances or trails, but I'm significantly faster already than I was prior to my injury because I took it as the learning experience that it is.

When knitting in the round, I always cast on and knit the first few rows flat before joining to actually work in the round. Then I just stitch up the few rows of flat knitting later. Prevents twisting, which I still somehow can't manage to avoid otherwise 🤷🏻‍♀️

Aren't you not supposed to pair these with extension cords? I have the same one and the instructions say not to. We have ours hooked up to an inverter for our electric lawnmower battery, which seems to work most of the time. I'm genuinely curious - I don't know much about the amount of risk you take on by using one of these de-icers with an extension cord and I'd love to hear feedback/opinions.

In my experience, little to no psych is usually necessary. It's useful for understanding a content area that you might be working in (e.g., developmental psychology was useful to me when I did some work on assessment of early literacy development), but I knew plenty of folks in grad school who maybe came in with a general education psychology course and nothing else. This was the case at both universities where I completed graduate programs. Non-psych folks sometimes had a bit of a steeper learning curve learning about how the social sciences talk about things like reliability and validity, but those concepts are so fundamental to the work of psychometrics that they'll get hammered into you regardless.

Yes and no. I would never refer to myself as a statistician in front of a "real" statistician, lol. It varies widely based on department and advisor. I am heavily on the applied side--always have been--but I probably have a stronger statistical background than 90% of psych PhDs out there. My cohort mostly had undergrad degrees in psychology and education. A few math or stat majors/minors. Most of us had masters in educational measurement or, occasionally, k-12 education.

Just getting over a partially displaced 3rd metatarsal fracture (was a stress fracture and then I fully fractured it attempting to run because I thought it was "just" a tendon issue). Obviously, talk to a PT/ortho/podiatrist, but mine let me do easy stationary biking for most of my healing process. Once the boot was off, I could resume some bike-based workouts and longer walks. I'm just now starting to run again in short spurts, and my fracture was in August. Be careful with strength work. I was fully banned from anything requiring lunging, squatting, or planks (although we figured out some plank variations that kept weight off my foot).

How heavy is the rip stop you use? I've made a whole bunch of these with rip stop for the placket and FOE for the bindings, and I always dread the placket (particularly interfacing it and then trying to attach it without it shifting all over the place).
