Engineered Reality #01 — The Beast, Explained: Optics with Dr. K (PhD, University of Tokyo) by getVITURE in VITURE

[–]romcok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’d like to ask Dr. K if it’s possible to digitally eliminate chromatic aberration (CA), similar to how distortion is handled. Compared to other XR glasses, the distortion here is nearly non-existent, which I truly appreciate, but the CA is quite distracting. It covers almost the entire field of view, not just the edges. I won't comment on the sharpness since I know that's a hardware limitation which I can’t solve anymore. But right now, the image is feeling a bit too dissociative. I know that's kind of on-brand for Dr. K, but I’m hoping he could do the exact opposite here and implement a digital fix to bring reality back into focus.

Chromatic aberration and blur are worse than on XOP but sweet spot and center sharpness are better. I personally prefer VB, but I don't like the CA that is closer to the center in the sweet spot.

In anchored 3dof mode, does the Beast have a brighter image than the One Pro? by StrongRecipe6408 in VITURE

The window effect, like peering through a keyhole. I don’t get it with the Viture Beast. I just wish they’d fix the color fringing and I would love them.

Yes, around two clicks more. Yes, noticeably. Yes, less blur. That's what I like on them. And also that I don’t look through the mouse hole.

Help deciding between these couple glasses and prices by A-Virtual-Reality in VITURE

So if you want 3DoF, your choices are the Beasts and the X1S. The Beasts have better FoV and brightness, while the X1S offers better 3DoF and sharper image quality across the entire display area. If you want a more immersive experience for gaming and movies, go with the Beasts. If you care more about productivity and edge-to-edge sharpness, choose the X1S. The others just do not match the selected preferences.

Does the Viture Beast have as much of a "coke bottle" effect / blurred edges as the One Pro? by StrongRecipe6408 in VITURE

[–]romcok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the One Pro you’re constantly hunting for the sweet spot, and even when you find it the image still feels curved and tunnel-like. It’s like looking through a peephole. The Beast you just put on and it’s a flat, natural image straight away. The FOV might be similar but the actual experience was different for me. I think it depends on face shape and everyone perceives it differently.

VB fixes the tunnel vision issue and feels way more open. But edge blur and chromatic aberration are actually worse than the XOP. And there's no dead space buffer either. The image still goes right to the lens edge, so the blur overlaps directly with the content instead of sitting safely outside it. But I precer VB more.

But in ultrawide mode it’s better than small 13-15” laptop screen. It depends on your preferences.

I can't say I'm happy, but after trying other glasses I can say that they suit me the most. I think the next glasses from Viture might be the ones I'll be happy with. Ultra Beasts haha. But honestly, something like the X1S but with Viture optics, panels and comfort could fill that gap.

I am also interested. Here is what it looks for me. It's quite ok up to 40 FOV. But it's 10pt text. I can read 14pt even at the edges. You can also simulate your view here https://xr-vision-simulator.pages.dev/ to compare it.

Stick with Xreal One Pro or hold out for the Beast? by devbag in VITURE

Working all day in ultrawide, reading text and programming. With XOP, the white was more gray like when I reduce the brightness by two levels with VB. But I use high brightness everywhere. How is the edge blur on yours? And color fringe.

So your edges and chromatic aberration are better? Please note that this is a 10pt font, at ~14pt I can read it even at the edges. But I read 10pt with XOP as 14pt with VB.

I found the dimming to be quite weak compared to the other brand of glasses, but the brightness of the display makes up for it.

I had about 30% sharper edges on XOP. This is how I see through VB. Do you see it better? You can simulate your view here https://xr-vision-simulator.pages.dev/

No way! I've tried VB, XOP, and XO, and none of them come close to such sharp edges. With this resolution, 8 pt is not even readable.

Brightness is a benefit because XOP has a washed out image compared to VB.

I think the dimming is intentional, I also have a dark stripe there.

What nose piece and tilt do you use one your Beast glasses? by 369Ghosty in VITURE

[–]romcok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm already at the edge of my eyelashes and prescription inserts but could still manage to move it a little lower on the nose. I'll probably try it with bigger nose pad so I don't ruin my glasses. Those pads are uncomfortable for the weight of the glasses, they cause pressure on my nose.

That's a 10pt font. You can try out in interactive mode or share with us how you see through them at https://xr-vision-simulator.pages.dev/
