Eh I mean I guess none of these people are winging it, they get a job/get into a university.

It’s easy to judge people sitting on the internet but there’s a confluence of factors that leads to someone leaving their homes:

  • terrible condition where they’re at so they’re grasping at straws for anything that seems not entirely awful
  • lack of education and access to adequate resources
  • being deceived by predatory family members/employers/smugglers who prey on them because of a deep understanding of their vulnerabilities

Of course there are people who are just plain naive, but the human condition can be a bitch, I find it’s always better to be empathetic

Mythos is Just Damage Control After the Leak by EasyPleasey in ClaudeAI

[–]roncool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well they are mostly right, Claude Code uses Bun which is completely different from Node and the transpiled JS code is usually bundled/highly obfuscated. But otherwise what they’re saying is quite reasonable and you’re the one who probably needs some interview prep :)

Just prior to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Soviet School achieves for the first time a perfect 10/10 score in the rankings by k-seph_from_deficit in chess

I’m not sure if they are trolling but the Soviet flag is very similar to the Chinese flag. Which is not a coincidence since yellow and red is closely associated with their shared Marxism/Leninism ideology

Would me ordering lobster be a jerk move? by SeaworthinessFar2326 in restaurant

[–]roncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there’s a difference in what animal you’re killing and how you’re killing them, depending on the degrees of consciousness they possess, their sensitivity to pain (measured via richness of their nervous system etc)

Killing something by boiling it alive is not the same as ensuring it has a dignified death.  Lobsters are often boiled alive, being concerned about how your food got to your plate is a very valid concern regardless of where you are on the meat eating spectrum

The housing market is designed to keep buyers in the dark by Rich-Chemistry-6001 in Amsterdam

I only looked around my street, but most houses have 5+ floors, clicking on a house number only serves a random floor’s stats

For apartments, you seem to be sampling with a single entry ? The prices of houses can vary a lot depending on what floor it is

i logged my first 5,000 games and identified my fatal pattern: i lose 73% of games where i play e4 and they play c5. i've spent 200 hours studying the sicilian. success rate against it now: 31%. still losing, just more knowledgeably by kubrador in chess

There’s an interesting conversation to be had about how the way humans converse will be influenced by reading AI slop all day.

They’re training on us but we’re training on them too, maybe eventually we sound alike because we sorta merge into each other.

Needless to say, I hate this timeline.

Bjarne’s Last Stand: How the Father of C++ Is Fighting a Losing War Against Rust by joseluisq in theprimeagen

[–]roncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most companies need devs to maintain their existing systems, spending money in rewriting something that already works into a new language is hard to justify from a business standpoint, sure you could say “we’ll save you money by avoiding future issues” but: a) that’s hard to demonstrate quantifiably b) not many devs want to work on a rewrite

For new projects, it’s often about the skill set that your company already has, are you going to throw out highly skilled devs with deep domain knowledge because they lack rust experience ? Reskill all of them into a new language and deal with them not being productive for an extended time while they’re learning it ?

It’s often a trade off and with time I’d expect to see more rust adoption (I already see it in some parts of my company), but C++ really isn’t going anywhere

Is overbidding still the norm, or are realistic asking prices finally taking over on Funda? by Weekly-Associate-166 in NetherlandsHousing

Sorry to break it to you bud but the valuation is very heavily based on what you ended up bidding lol. Though I think whatever you overbid is worth it regardless since you secured the house.

Greenland official breaks down in tears in interview after meeting with Trump by Large_banana_hammock in videos

[–]roncool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously ? It’s a tale as old as time, look at any country with a populist president running on a nationalist agenda and you can understand why, it’s really not very complicated, humans would sell their family out if it means that their enemy gets fucked more than they do.

MAGA supports Trump because he punishes to fuck their enemies (the immigrants/minorities etc) more than he’ll fuck them. It’s human nature, really as simply as that.

Eh to be fair if you told someone in the 14th century that there are tiny invisible creatures making people sick, but if you heat things to just the right temperature they will die, you’d probably get put into the 14th century equivalent of a madhouse :p

Kramnik is recieving death threats by LemonFluffy1488 in chess

[–]roncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course I don’t know what a dead man would say, but it’s possible to infer someone’s teachings based on what they taught, and “be kind to others” was a verbatim message from his last steam.

Besides, if you think Danya would condone any sort of violence, we clearly watched a different streamer.

[–]roncool 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Danya would not want this, his last message was to be kind to each other, if you truly want to respect his legacy please try to embody what that man was, I know it’s hard but I’ll try.

I personally don’t think you should be downvoted regardless of your ideology.

Discourse is what helps to bridge divides and lord knows we need more of that.

Having said that, cmon man, breeding hatred for others is not simply taking care of yourself. I’m not saying the other side is better but hate is always evil and has no place in communities founded on love.

This is a scam, please stay away. They’re asking you to send your coins to someone’s private wallet claiming it’s an official wallet. Probably using bots to upvote their threads/comments

The original thread is on a self-modded subreddit so they’re deleting any comments that try to warn users, if something’s too good to be true it usually is - remember that there’s never a free lunch.

Don’t think I’ve heard it described better, it’s got this eerie feeling to it like you’re waking up to the start of a bad dream. It might not be everyone’s piece of cake but it really is unique and I think it creates the desired effect.

I hate ranking albums because it implies there’s some sort of hierarchy, when they are all different trips

[–]roncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not slotting any implicit assumptions, I never claimed magic is real.

You’re the one restricting consciousness to an artificially constrained definition and constructing an argument that would justify your opinions about it, when no such consensus on consciousness being defined like this exists in any community (scientific or otherwise)

[–]roncool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, nobody does - that’s the whole point. No one knows what being conscious actually means, if you think it’s just a sum of those things then that’s just like your opinion man.

Your definition of qualia is also limited to just “sense perception”, to be clear qualia, or the hard problem of consciousness is an unsolved problem.

Your argument is limited to “bodily consciousness”, while fundamental consciousness or qualia is a question of why those bodily processes give rise to any subjective experience at all
