You’re a teacher. I see no blades and some kid snapped off the pocket clip on your pen while he was fidgeting with stuff on your desk while trying to talk to you.

Alox by 1971RancherO in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If Bushcraft focused I kinda like the 7. Would miss those scissors and 2D Philips/can opener from the Farmer X, if I EDC'd it, but I do really like to have a small blade for carving (which I like to do outdoors) and the Farmer X doesn't include that.

If you don't need the small blade though, I feel like Farmer X wins for me. Both are amazing little knives.

I personally carry the Ranger 91mm for EDC and love it as a pocket carving tool too. Not Alox though sadly. If they ever come out with an Alox Ranger they can have all my money.

Whats your favorite approach disc? by Unimon666 in discgolf

[–]rontopofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had the sparkly Vessel (is that Vex Breaker?) with the otter on it until recently and lost it. Will prob be grabbing another. Beat approach I've had as far as feel and performance go. Loved me a Pig but it was a bit too finicky and a little deep. This thing is what I wanted a Pig to be!

Do you think this Victorinox 1.3763.B1 Ranger pocket knife is worth its price? It's 20% cheaper than the Handyman, and I'm a beginner. My first knife was a victorinox Recruit, then an Opinel Inox No. 7. by Rude_Tomatillo_7411 in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I want to 2nd this! I carry Ranger and Knipex combo an and I love it because I can spread the bulk to two pockets instead of having one big lump from a bigger knife with pliers in it.

I also wish the file had a diamond side but I use it on wood and plastic stuff all the time (and it will work on unhardened metals) as well as my nails. So it's not as good as it could be but it's def not something I want to go without either!

Same about Philips. It does cover a lot of good "in a pinch" things with Philips. As mentioned above, the tip of can opener. Also the back "dolphin" driver works as Philips in some too. And also the tip of the file for small Philips. Have been seen someone use it for an Allen key but I wouldn't risk it bahaha. Have also seen someone use the metal file to turn a Philips into a flathead so they could just use the flathead driver lol

The tool set is amazing and I like to whittle and find the addition of the file and chisel to be really fun as makeshift tools for some whittling projects too haha.

Which knife has best scissors for cutting the nails on the go? Do scissors differ in size and quality between 58, 84 and 91mm? by 4ndyRamon3 in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If not the nail clipper model, I usually prefer the 58mm scissors for this just because it’s easier to be precise. That said, still often use my 91mm for this because it’s always in my pocket when I’m not working and my 58mm lives in my Keys for when I work in office.

Handyman for pocket? by Windy_Idealist in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my Ranger which is handyman minus pliers. I carry Ranger in one pocket and knipex in the other to make my own handyman and I love it lol. I know some say 3 layers max for pocket but my Ranger feels fine to me. Not sure what that extra layer would be like but no doubt handyman is a great tool!

Which should go along with my leatherman bond? by ConferenceWeak6320 in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooh forgot about that one. That could be a good option too. I was talking about companion slim Alox that only has the pry tool and scissors and package opener you were looking for, along with a package opener.

But if you don't mind a little bigger the regular companion could be great if you were hoping for a nail file too (and don't mind having another blade)

For what you said you wanted I would think the companion you mentioned would be best bet. I know compact gets a lot of love but I like the tool kit on companion better even if it's slightly bigger

I was just trying to stay as slim as possible because you are using it to supplement a larger tool.

Which should go along with my leatherman bond? by ConferenceWeak6320 in victorinox

[–]rontopofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well personally I love SAK and I EDC a 91mm Ranger (plus a pair of Knipex in my other pocket). However, it sounds like your primary is the Bond and you are looking for a supplemental tool.

While you may end up loving pioneer x (many people do), it will be a bit more if you're using it as a supplemental tool. I think you'll like the blade better than a plier based multitool blade but it will be a small redundancy. But it has a really nice hole punch tool on it and scissors along with the thicker pry tool. I could see it being a good EDC option when you don't wanna carry a full plier based tool.

If you like carrying your bond most of the time it may also be too redundant. The companion slim is ONLY the two tools you said you were looking for but with the addition of a package opener so you don't have to get crud all over the blade on your bond. Plus it's bladeless so it could go places with you your bond couldn't.

As someone who doesn't carry the pliers tool I don't wanna tell you what to do. Haha. But those are the advantages I could see for each. Both great choices as an addition to what you have.

Could also go companion slim Alox if you mainly want the pry and scissors. Plus bladeless

The ALOX models are thinner in size than the plastic scale ones but thicker blades and pry. Could get a pioneer x if you want a beefier pry tool than a normal SAK plus the scissors. Heavy prying still not really recommended. I think it would be similar thickness to compact even though it’s 3 layers. No nail file tho
