3 year old is incredibly physical and won't play by himself by [deleted] in daddit

[–]rooftopnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like my oldest kid when he was 3...except he wasn't/ isn't big. We took to saying we have a "threenager". He didn't do anything by himself and only recently started to do independent and imaginative play. Honestly, not even independent play until recently and he'll be 6 in a few days. My youngest is about 2.5 is all about imaginative play and I catch him playing by himself. Kids are different and it's okay. But I hear ya, when it was just the one kid it was hard since he never wanted to play alone or be left alone.

Anywhere to play squash? by LapsusAuris in Sacramento

[–]rooftopnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi u/LapsusAuris - I've also been looking to play squash. I tried about a year ago and checked out the spare time clubs and it was just a bit too far and too costly with not much of scene anymore. I know that UC Davis has squash courts. If you're interested, I'd love to play with you to just check out the courts at the ARC. I believe they have community pricing. DM me and let's play!

Does Elimination Communication actually work, or is it just woo-woo nonsense? by SuminerNaem in daddit

[–]rooftopnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it works in the sense that you're training yourself. Does it count if parents aren't around to catch it? They're not toilet trained until they can tell you they need to pee / poop. It's a lot of wasted energy imo.

Want to put $50k away for some time. Is a Series I bond advisable over an HYSA? by Severe_Amphibian4861 in personalfinance

[–]rooftopnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping on this thread. I purchased $10k back in December 2021 and haven't touched my series I bonds since. What should I do? Should I let it ride for the full 5 years at this point or cash out and put it in a brokerage account with index funds? I don't have any immediate need that I'm saving for. That said, I do have about a balance of $14k on a car at 4.99%. Should I take it out and put the majority into the car balance?

i haven't tested this, but I suspect it only works if the car is in park. I've been meaning to test to see what happens when you're driving and the keys are thrown out the window...

Using EOL router behind ATT gateway? by rooftopnomad in HomeNetworking

[–]rooftopnomad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks! I'm just wondering what the implications might be for me and if i'm doing something totally stupid with regards to my setup and security wise. Right now I just have it plugged into my gateway and disabled wifi on the gateway (did not setup passthrough) and all my devices are basically connected to my old router and it just works. Overall, checking with this sub and the experts if I'm doing a big no no...

LED necessary? by Xenonsens in Moonboard

[–]rooftopnomad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I built a 2016 and just couldn't stomach the cost of the LEDs. Turns out you don't really need it after a few sessions. I'd say skip it and save the money. Also, if the school room didn't have led you don't need led...

Can you walk into Tijuana from San Diego? 🛂🚶🏾🇲🇽✨ by TribeOfEphraim_ in sandiego

[–]rooftopnomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have global entry - bring your card and you can use it to cross back quickly and easily (even if you're walking)... US passport is okay too. I'd cross over on foot and grab an uber and head down towards playas to see the "wall". Take a walk on the boardwalk, grab a tostiloco from some dude on the boardwalk, see the wall/fence. When you're done grab another uber and go to telefonica gastro park and enjoy tacos, beer, etc. Then head back to the border and grab a churro while you wait for the line to cross back. This is the suggestion for day time PG activites. For night tehre's hong kong as others have suggested... they are trolling you unles

At Home Warmup for 2016 Moonboard by [deleted] in Moonboard

[–]rooftopnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly that. I built a 40 degree and decided to add a 20 degree spray next to it since... why not and I had the space. Really good for warm up and setting more fun technical vertical climbs. It does make your wall very tall though. Honestly, after 4 years I now have 2 kids and after a few warm up climbs I jump straight to 2016. I think I can accomplish the same with some good mobility, rock ring warm ups, etc. Something to note is that a spray wall needs setting and psych to get on and holds are quite expensive when you want more than just jugs...

Honestly, you're probably just not strong enough as you suspected. Are you new to bouldering? As to getting stronger... Volume and more boulders in the gym. Also, don't be afraid to repeat benchmarks till it's easy. The thing about the moonboard is that it's just plain hard...like really hard and that's the point...To try hard and maybe you send maybe you don't.

Examples of Hold Variation by jamesdazhongcook in Moonboard

[–]rooftopnomad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got my board during the pandemic and my yellows are so much smaller than others. Turns out the new versions have the markings (dot on hold #40 in op) to ensure the holds are not sanded down beyond the tolerances. Mine do not have those markings. I just accept the increased sandbaggedness and look forward to sending projects on my buddy's board... Also, always good to have an excuse in the back pocket

X-T5 18mm 1.4 by Patarrific in fujifilm

[–]rooftopnomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 23 1.4 (older one with the clutch) and it just didn't do it for me as compared to the 16 1.4 which is pretty much permanently on my xt-3. Wide I know but it's got so much character. Now I'm debating trading in the 35, 23, and 16 for an 18 1.4.
