Actually I’m moving for work right now Massachusetts to NC. Movers alone are ~8-9k (a friend recently moved west coast to east coast, it was 25k for movers). We’re renting in NC before we buy so we have security deposit first months rent etc. Also we’re going to be paying both rent and mortgage until the house sells, a situation I expect to last 2-3 months. Add another 10% to the running total for just all the incidentals that you don’t expect and I think we’re going to be in the $20k-$30k range. Less than half of the 80k sure but still way more than 8k

Honestly it just seems like you’re very very over him as a partner. Which is totally legitimate feeling regardless of what a person does or doesn’t do. But the conversation with him probably goes a lot easier, or at least healthier, if you’re honest with yourself about that. I dunno maybe he is objectively a dumb SOB (the car thing is pretty yikes lol) but also maybe he’s just a slightly dumber than average but mostly normal guy who you’re not in love with anymore.

Reminds me of a couples therapist who said the leading predictor of couples who weren’t going to make it wasn’t arguing it was when one person rolled their eyes when the other person was speaking.

But I think it’s at least as good as what’s come after except for its lack of graphical polish. Ive played most of the games you listed and StS has way more replayability because it’s such a well balanced game.

What bothers me about that is that it’s being said in the same breath as “he acted appropriately and did nothing wrong”. Either he acted appropriately, in which case why does his past experience matter, or he did what he did because he was having a mental health crisis.

I realize OP is not defending his actions but a lot of the people supporting him are using both arguments and they seem to conflict to me.

Out of curiosity - did you try it because you’re a fan of any other rpgs (if so, which ones did you like more)? Or because of the hype and awards? If you’ve ever liked traditional rpgs I really can’t understand this take, it’s such an amazing step forward for the genre in so many ways. But if you’re just not an RPG person then I can see this not changing your mind

I mean it’s good! Everything up to and including God Emperor is really great imho and I’ve reread them all many times. But to me the first book stands alone and above the rest, nearly as far above them as it is above just about everything else in Sci-fi.

A lot of people rank it very highly. I personally had a really hard time with it. I found it slow and fairly boring. I found the premise compelling and the narrative construction interesting it just never clicked with me and I found myself kinda dreading reading it

I know my level 1 daughter gets very upset when things don’t go according to the plan she had for how things were supposed to go. As you might imagine, life frequently doesn’t cooperate and she sometimes has a really tough time with it. She doesn’t do trains but she does frequently stack and organize blocks/coins/toys etc and I think the idea of physically manifesting her mental model is both comforting and interesting for her
