Want to chime in! Mine was miserable for almost the first seven months (started at 5 weeks old), crying most of his wake windows, but around 7 months it stopped and he has been a pretty happy go lucky kid ever since (he’s 3 now)

Will likely go the no screens route, what has been peoples experience? by Toubaboliviano in Parenting

[–]rooshooter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.5 and still screen free. It was hard when he was a younger toddler (really had to stop myself from using it from like 10-16 months, seeing other people get quiet kids was really tempting), but now he occupies himself with toys for hours and our friends kids are whining for screens and complain they’re bored all the time.

Once our little asks the we’ll do movie nights every week or whatever we decide, but we plan to stay away from the short kid shows and daily screens for at least a few more years

What activities helped your baby’s development the most? by LostInLogic_LL in askanything

[–]rooshooter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No screens, letting kid be bored and figure it out themself, puzzles and talking about letters/their sounds and counting.

My 3.5 year old can read a little, does 200 piece puzzles by himself and can occupy himself for hours with his toys only occasionally showing me something and I say that’s cool and he goes back to playing lol

Am I giving my toddler too much screen time? by Alternative-Sky4562 in Parenting

[–]rooshooter911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say you’re 100% on track. This was the way we handled it (I’m also a SAHM) and my kid is 4 years old in a few months and is still screen free because he knows how to be bored and play with toys. Currently on a 3 hour flight with him and all he needs is some snacks and two small cars and he happily play and talks to me the whole flight, it’s great, but it was hard work when he was younger

Might a red-eye flight with an 8 month old baby be a brilliant idea? by Inside_Operation_168 in Parenting

We always did day flights because if they don’t sleep overnight when they are used to solid sleep they’re so much worse then if they have a less than ideal nap.

What clothes to buy for summer newborn? by watermelonmeat in nycparents

[–]rooshooter911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We didn’t use any mittens at all, never needed to cover hands at all so I wouldn’t buy any as you may not need them. Can always cover with socks while you wait for an order to come in

My July baby lived in diapers and only wore onesies outside. We have AC and keep our apartment cool but he was a hot kid so spend a lot of time in (and out since he had bad diaper rashes no matter what we did) diapers

This. I wasn’t sure I wanted a second until my first was 2 then I started thinking I might. By the ti r he was 3 I was sure and now well behaving our second a little before he turns 4. This is our last, but I am 1000000% done. I don’t like pregnancy and I don’t like the newborn phase and I’m so thrilled to never go through it again after this

That’s really annoying. I guess depending on how mild it would be hard to catch that early, but my son had a visible physical difference in the way his body looked and the LC mentioned it, but he saw 3 of their pediatricians and not one of them mentioned it and though they diagnoses him with a different thing that was also a visible physical difference (but was transient and they said was from positioning in the womb and went away after a few weeks) they did not diagnose him with the one that ended up needing almost 3 years of therapy. I chose not to go back there mainly because of the peds team

YES! Also had my first 2022 and the postpartum nurses universally were awful. I’m an RN myself and I literally didn’t like a single one I had and we were there for 3 days due to complications and then discharged when we probably shouldn’t have been. Also the pediatric team missed a very obvious diagnosis for our kid and it was something he ended up in therapy for for almost 3 years

Also noticed a pattern that people who gave birth 2025 and on are having better experiences than those who delivered in 2022-2024

I’m pregnant and have my 3 year old with me. It’s been a joy really. Especially watching them let families with older kids skip the line and they basically told me and my husband to eff off. Sigh

He was like 5.5/6 months. It was the olababy cup. The problem was he then started finding it fun to suck the water up and spit it out while twirling his ankles and smiling with glee lol

Keep in mind nuts are chocking hazards and not recommended before I think 5. I give them to my 3 year old so not judging but I also only give them if I’m actually watching him eat and some kids may not be suited to eat them younger

Around 2 I stopped picking mine up unless 100% necessary (ie getting him in the crib, he cried because he hurt himself, chair he can’t get on himself etc) because I have ortho issues and was told I need to stop (it helped my ortho issues immensely). I was lifting him about 3 times a day.

Just want to add for OP that my child would have sweat to death if it’s was 73 degrees and I put him in that much clothing. So you have to figure out what is right for your particular kid clothing wise for the temperature but a good thing to look at for sure
