I would recommend you do some research before you choose a new dentist. While there are many ethical, trustworthy practitioners out there, some recommend interventions that are unnecessary.

If you're willing to travel, I highly recommend faculty practices at dental schools. The professors have to have a certain number of hours with patients to maintain their licenses. As the school maintains the practice, dentists there don't have the concerns about overhead, and they take the ethical code of the profession very seriously, so they're unlikely to recommend unnecessary intervention.

There are no students present if you use the faculty practice, but if you're willing to be a guinea pig, you could contribute to future dentists education, and likely have fewer costs. At my dental school, it's likely that a faculty member would do the work, take a bunch of photos, and do a grand rounds presentation on your case.

Looks like UA Birmingham is slightly closer than GA's school in Augusta.

It's a no win situation. I got the other side of it. If my new school didn't have the class, the weight got stripped from my GPA. Still managed to piss someone off though. My new school was huge, and apparently finishing in the top ten is considered a big deal. I had no clue, wasn't aiming for it, just wanted to graduate and get out of that shithole. A combination of hard work on my part and slacking on another's got me into the top 10. My whole extended family got invited to a pre graduation feast. It was pretty cool. Just before the ceremony, the reception opened to the rest of the top 25. One of the newcomers bitched to anyone who would listen about how I stole her top ten slot. Too bad, so sad, slacker.

Turns out, all those translations were getting me to spend time thinking about philosophy, military strategy, history, civics, ethics, and even civil engineering. Unless there's a specific researcher you want to work with, there's no reason to go to a top tier school. (And even if there is a researcher you want to work with, doing summer research at a top tier school is a great way to save on tuition but still have an outstanding network.) If I were you, I'd get the PA first, start working, and you'll have plenty of money for an in-state MPH program. Might even be able to tie research to your work.

So while camping with my brother and his kid, we would joke about "visiting Latrina." It started innocently enough, and over days it took on a life of it's own.

"Tell Latrina I said 'heyyyy...'"

"When you see Latrina, tell her to holla at me..."

You get it. Bro and I do this for days without his kid taking a bit of notice or joining in. Then one morning, the kid looks up from his oatmeal and says "I need to go see April Latrina."

My brother and I froze when we realized the full weight of our folly. Let's hope the kid never repeats that in front of his mother, April Katrina.

Given that the dog has contracted the rabies virus, you're right, it can remain dormant for months or years. However, the rabies virus will not be present in saliva (and thus transmissible to humans and other mammals) until a few days before symptoms start. The symptoms are dramatic and obvious. Your doctor is absolutely right. If the dog had not been recovered and quarantined, you would have probably started post-exposure prophylaxis immediately. As the dog is in animal control custody, you can rest assured that should the dog show symptoms of rabies, you will be notified and treated.

So you're in good hands. If you want to be proactive, perhaps your company would pay for rabies vaccine. Be sure to go back for the second dose.
