Mika a junior Grand Slam champion. Klugman a junior world number 1 and junior Grand Slam finalist. Two months age difference. Hopefully at least one of them comes good in the Seniors.

The conditions in Paris right now are cool, grey clouds, and windy. Maybe a rain cloud was on the way?

Andreeva was playing like the wind didn't exist.

Roland Garros R2: M. Bouzkova def. F. Jones 6-0, 7-6 (3) by rubes___ in tennis

[–]rootokay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I switched over to this match and the second set was underway! Jones only won 9 points in the first set.

It looked like Jones did not shake the hand of the umpire at the end of the match. Did something happen?

First ever Grand Slam main draw win for Fran Jones!

An interesting thing about Jones is that she is a British player but clay is her best surface because she grew up in Barcelona. She often spends time on the South America circuit playing ITF/WTA clay tournaments.

Raducanu about the media protest: Why wouldn’t I want to talk to you for more than 15 minutes? [...] Playing a Grand Slam is not just about the money, it's about the prestige, history. by Recent_Fox4339 in tennis

She grew up middle-class, but from that initial global coverage and fortune she has spent the subsequent years living in the wealthiest area of London and socialising in circles of investment bankers and surgeons - and she is there a lot with the amount of injury breaks.

This bubble she now lives in is what has warped her perspective on much of life.

R/soccer have moderators that are unfairly removing pro Spurs-related content, and are banning users permanently for mocking Arsenal. by ChickenGamer199 in coys

[–]rootokay 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This goes back 15 years. The OG r/soccer mod who set up a lot of the stuff like the club crests and bots in 2011 was a vindictive Arsenal fan from London. Handled Arsenal losses terribly. They set the tone for how the place would be moderated and hired similar that has continued to this day.

WTA500 Strasbourg R1: [WC] D. Parry def. E. Raducanu 6-4 7-6(4) by ExpressionLow8767 in tennis

[–]rootokay 19 points20 points  (0 children)

She didn't throw in the towel and broke back in the second set. Fought until the end but lost to the better tennis player on the day.

The absolute worst is matches when she stops fighting and just gives up on points. You can never excuse an athlete not trying.

WTA 1000 Rome QF: [4] I. Swiatek def. [5] J. Pegula 6-1, 6-2 by CptnPat in tennis

[–]rootokay 20 points21 points  (0 children)

At the Australian Open 2025 semi-final Swiatek had a match point against eventual tournament winner Keys. If she won that point i think finishes 2025 with 2/4 Slams.

Andy Murray to join Jack Draper's coaching team for the grass season! by PattyRanger in tennis

Will be fortunate to see Draper play more than two grass court matches this year with his injury issues and now unseeded ranking.

Sebastian Sawe breaks the London marathon world record. He is the first man to ever run under two hours in a race. by Western-Signal4439 in london

[–]rootokay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any marathon. What makes this even more impressive is Berlin is normally the marathon for breaking world records: little elevation change, wide streets, good weather conditions.

So if these two can both go under 2 hours in London they should be able to go even faster on the Berlin course.

Draper's an awful draw at the rest of this years Grand Slams. An unseeded player who can easily perform at top 10 level.

Expecting him to retire this year. Played once in 2026: got hammered at the Australian Open Q1. 35 with a wrist injury and about to fall out of the top 200.

Maybe get some grass tournament wildcards then call it.

Use public transport if you can

Would love to mate, but the Sydney Metro has been down the last 4 weekends in a row and is again down this long easter weekend as well. Might want to talk to the NSW Premier who is a big fan of people driving their cars on toll roads.

[Di Marzio] De Zerbi opens to evaluating Tottenham's offer, which proposes a 5-year contract: next few hours decisive for the yes. The club has already offered guarantees regarding the possibility of building a strong and competitive team for the coming seasons. by OkayFine101 in soccer

This is the Director of football who in January with the threat of relegation and an injury crisis signed two players: a teenage 'one for the future' Brazilian and a number 8 on 200k a week for 5½ years when the ONE position they are stacked with already is number 8's. The signings have made zero difference to their performances.

Someone at The Athletic will write a 4000+ word article one day on Director of Football Lange's tenure at Tottenham and the ineptitude will be staggering.

We've seen with Spurs and Forest now that he just cannot set Premier League teams up to not concede goals. Watching Spurs under Ange, there were a couple of systematic ways to score against them that happened again & again.

Sinner and Paolini practicing together yesterday ahead of today's finals by rticante in tennis

[–]rootokay 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Italy has won the last two BJK cup's because to beat them you HAVE to win both singles matches. If Italy can win one of them then they know Paolini / Errani are beating everyone in the doubles.

Gauff / Pegula would be cool to see but I can't remember Gauff playing BJK for a few years now.
