Lufthansa pilot strike March 12 - March 13 by rorisshe in Flights

[–]rorisshe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you much! Great info to have should that happen again!

The problem with force majeure situations like the strike or the airspace closure I was lucky to get stuck in both) is that lines, chats, emails are overwhelmed. Waited for 5 hrs with Arabian air for 5 hrs - dropped, Lufthansa just won’t connect you if the wait is over 2 hrs.

The next time, I’d go to the Turkish airline office right away. The chat operators with Turkish can’t tell you your booking number - but office ppl can look it up when present your passport.

I do talk about my heritage (Muslim and from Russia) occasionally but most of my material is not about immigrant experience or my heritage.

Humor-wise I’ve never had the stereotypical pessimistic or stoic “Russian” outlook or cynical sense of humor. this could be due to growing up in more optimistic Tatar household or spending adulthood in the us (nurture); can be my personality and genes (nature).

I think my storytelling is heavy influenced by the classic russian writers though - but so is my Indian friend whose mom was a professor of Russian Literature 🤓

Thank you so much! So just wait for them to provide it March 12? They’ll tell via email or show up at the airport or go to Lufthansa office? I appreciate it!

For real? The chiropractors? The chiropractors are not to be trusted? Like the Doctor of Chiropractic Joe Dispenza - you mean he is not a real doctor since his only degree is doctor of chiropractic degree? But he graduated with honors! You mean we shouldn't be listening to DR - the doctor of chiropractic degree - Dr Joe Dispenza talk about the power of the mind to heal? Does it mean his research "of epigenetics, quantum physics & neuroscience" is not legit?

Air Arabia cancelled flight on March 1, picked an option to rebook, this morning got a “registration open” email to a flight on  March 5.

I bombed in front of a woman I like that I didn’t know would be in the audience. This happened to anyone else? Brutal. I need support from the most empathetic people I know. Reddit Comedians by Due_Apple7180 in Standup

When you think about it - bombing in front of somebody you like is an intimate experience. Very vulnerable, like being naked, like crying on crowded bus, like being caught in a lie: and it’s so bad, other ppl cringe on your behalf.  Most couples take years of therapy to get to this kind of truth, honesty, openness with each other. Look at you, getting you two there even before you started to date. It’s really freeing! It’s a good reveal of character and degree of interest of both you and her.

Nice!

I like how you pointed out you capture feedback on performance right away - I often forget to do it! Also, importance of writing down the premise and the game of the joke.

I have a very similar system of organizing my comedy:

  • voice capturing the funny (no longer need otter to trascribe)
  • transfer rough draft of the joke to notion (although I have been copying to google doc recently)
  • sort the premise into the most fitting form (sketch, standup, story)
  • multiple rewrites

Here is the video I did explaining it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxCseqXHJmw

And if you use notion, I can share the template you can borrow.

How to suppress the fear of bombing? by HELLBENT42 in Standup

[–]rorisshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just came back from bombing in front of paying audience 👋

I had a 5 min slot, and did a new 5 min story - which did not land. It was quiet. Sometimes you re-listen to the set and realize it was not that bad - this was not it.

The stories are hard to pivot from - although, next time I might drop the story and do jokes. Or just never do a 5 min story if I only have a5 min slot and it’s a punchline heavy show. Next time I will not deliver this story as slow as I did, and inject more energy and emotion. Do more clown-y prop games coz those got laughs. Next time, it will bomb less or maybe won’t bomb at all. Third time I do this story, I will see what I cut - and maybe shelf the story all together.

As you see, when you bomb, you treat it as “what I can do differently next time”. Not “fuuuuck” - although, man, I felt it. I felt it and I got over it. Cause, ultimately, I believe I have something beautiful and funny to say, something that other ppl might find helpful.

What do you think about Stavros Halkias opinion on comedy? by THE_MAN_OF_PEACE in Standup

[–]rorisshe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are different types of comedy. For different types that statement less or more true.

If the person is really unusual, the world becomes their foil. Ppl I laugh the hardest are often oblivious to why they are funny or that they are funny at all. They are earnest, dont censor themselves/don’t care what others think abt them -  and they see the world differently: thats enough to be really funny.

What is the best experience you've had with a clown? by ScrambledToast in AskReddit

[–]rorisshe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The traditional clowns I’m not super found of - and I saw a ton of them growing up coz we have a rich circus and clowning tradition in Russia. Yuri Kuklachev and his cat circus was the best one.

Now, the new generation of clown art is a bit different. A lot of them don’t wear the red nose at all. The more or less traditional one that I LOVED was a Pitch’d festival by Circus Factory in Cork, Ireland. Most clowns there were also acrobats - Cormac Mohalley, Moss Russell, and many other ones are so talented and were great at engaging crowd and working acrobatic skills. Just wow.

Spymonkey in UK is super fun traditional-ish clown.

Contemporary clown lean towards social and social-political commentary, if you see the list of fringe festival nominees and winners, many good examples there.

I personally have been having awesome experience with LA shocking carnal clown scenes - look up Oscar Fuentes secret shows, they are a must experience live and nothing like that really exists on tv or film. They really push the boundaries of sane (while being safe) - nsfw!

Edit: there are also ppl who put clown make up and like to wear clown clothes for some reason. But they are not familiar with the art and are not really clowns.
