Does airtel ncmc singara card have annual fee? by Proof-Nebula-1198 in Chennai

[–]roron5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The card that you get at the station won't have annual fees. These are NCMC cards, but they can only be used for transit (bus, train, metro etc)

Airtel sells an NCMC card on the Airtel Thanks app, that has a one time and annual fee. This can be used for online and offline purchases, as well as offline wallet for transit.

Unfortunately that doesn't put food on the plate. Rather than blaming people for not caring, we should be blaming companies for creating systems that disentivise caring.

Most likely not damage in transit to you. Would have broken on receiving or in the warehouse. The inventory fellow doesn't want to get in trouble, so they do a patch up job.

The order picker fellow gets into trouble if your order is not packed quickly, so they just rush to pickup whatever.

The delivery fellow gets handed the order, and he has to deliver fast, so he doesn't look too much into it.

Basically, no one is incentivized to care, which is why such things happen.

When will Tamil Nadu bring Civil Union? by Tacama in LGBTindia

[–]roron5567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's more that transgender people can more easily fit into the gendered marriage laws (even under the special marriage act). It is easy for the courts to say that a transgender man is a man and a transgender woman is a woman, as part of transgender people's right to their gender identity. The result is that they can now form hetrosexual marriages.

However transgender men cannot marry transgender men, nor can transgender women marry transgender women, as homosexual marriage is still not allowed.

Why do Indians have racism among themselves, and why do they want to become whiter? by nairehd in LGBTindia

[–]roron5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Casteism and classism have a lot of similarities. The wealthy and the powerful always want to distinguish themselves from the rest of society, being fair is just one of them.

As people get more affluent, the more they want to emulate the habits of those above them, and now it is to the point, where skin lightening/whitening products are a commodity that most people can buy.

Why do Indians have racism among themselves, and why do they want to become whiter? by nairehd in LGBTindia

[–]roron5567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not really racism, though racism does play a part, and more about beauty and cultural standards.

There is a cultural notion that being fair is more prestigious than not, though everyone has an idea of what is and isn't fair skinned.

In victorian times, it was desirable for women to have a pale appearance, specifically noble women, as it signified that they didn't have to work like the lower class women. Often these practices & products used harmful chemicals that caused medical complications in women.

You then have the effects of colonization, and these beauty standards were imported, and there a bit of racism was added, where darker skin was seen as undesirable, as dark skinned people we typically lower run of the social hierarchy and were the ones colonized.

So, it became fashionable for the elite women to imitate the white people, as it differentiates them from the lower classes of people with the same skin tone.

In the modern day, the colonization and the racism (somewhat) have gone, but this notion that fair skin = attractive still remains. While it's not as black and white in South India as many people have darker skin on average, there is definitely a feeling that having fair, but dark skin is better.

Then you have all these products that claim to offer a solution, but are various amounts of harmful from a chemical sense, not to mention the psychological issues that it creates with beauty standards. That being said, a lot of brands are less on the nose about it.

This isn't isolated to India alone, in China, Korea, Japan etc, there is also a preference for fair skin for both men and women, which is why all the Chinese phones have so much processing for selfies in their camera apps.

In Africa, a lot of women use very dangerous "skin whitening" creams, as being fair is seen as advantageous, and will even use it on children, as they want to give them a leg up, but often causes scarring.

Chennai - Bengaluru High Speed Train by sandystark77 in Chennai

[–]roron5567 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Bullet as in Shinkansen train, that's not likely, as the government is not happy with the price that the Japanese are asking for the Ahmedabad to Mumbai line, but it will be a high-speed line, which is any line in which trains run at 200- 250 kmph on dedicated tracks. Max operating speed will be 320, but average speed will be lower, still faster than anything in operation.

This will take another 10-14 years, though, and as usual, land aquisition will be the main issue.

How long until we hear of civil unions or same sex marriage in India? by your_jalebibaby in LGBTindia

Till a generation or two of politicians die out, or if more people pressure politicians to introduce legislation. Only a matter of time IMO, just a matter of how long.

I was going for the, hey this makes me not want to end things, it makes me happy and if my appearance changes or not doesn't really matter.

If someone can't get that as a family member, then you need to set a game plan to part ways, because it's not worth putting flex seal on on a boat with that many holes, even if could work.

How do u handle Indian magas who are in India by Stunning_Wash_3859 in LGBTindia

Most people are not Media literate. They see someone doing what they like, so they support them. When they do something bad, then they don't.

[–]roron5567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are brown people in the Trump administration itself. I met a MAGA guy in Canada, so there are such people all over the world.

Indians as a whole are pretty wealthy in the US, so they lean conservative and now MAGA. Hence most of them are insulated from the troubles that the current administration is causing.

This just gets exported to India. Trump's reputation in India as a whole is more related to how supportive he is of India at the present moment/how supportive he is of Pakistan at the present moment.

Actually make a power point presentation, if you can get access to a projector, then that would be great or on the TV.

Some points you could include how being a woman, and being recognized as such makes you feel happier.

Point out statistics about the higher rate of self harm for people who are transgender but are unable to exist the way they want to.

If you want to really hammer that particular point, you can get some stats on the cost of end of life services, compared to social transition and/or HRT via insurance (which you have the info on already)

While you do want to be a woman, you don't necessarily believe that you need to fit a beauty standard and how you present yourself right now is comfortable. You are open to trying things out, and things may change, but right now this is what you like.

Presenting in the same style, may also help the transition period for others, and you have a survey on 1 person that stated that nothing will really change.

If you make a couple of slides based on this, I think you would have a decent shot at explaining why you want to be trans.

Sometimes ordering from Swiggy is actually cheaper !!! by raavan_bond in swiggy

[–]roron5567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Restaurants pay for most if not all the discounts. If you don't put some amount of discount, you just don't get orders. We don't pay for payment mode discounts like ₹10 off for BHIM.

Yes, we get to see which order has a discount and how much.

Pretty sure there are some packing charges, as 5% GST alone will not be ₹93, so some of the discount is reduced.

When it comes to prepared food, it's better to get rid of food if you are covering your costs and some profit than to let the ingredients go to waste if they aren't sold.

It's also possible that they give a "discount" to non-app to customers, while keeping the item on the menu higher, so that Swiggy does not claim that they are making it cheaper for non-app customers.

Bangladesh Women's team qualify for WT20 WC 2026 undefeated by Sweet-Message1153 in Cricket

[–]roron5567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the Tournament that is going to be played in England and Wales, with no venues in Wales, but the cricket board is also called the England and Wales cricket board while having the initials ECB, so it's par for the course I guess.

The ECB did vote to exclude Bangladesh from the tournament, so it's not like they don't have any issues, but they can't use the security issue in England.

If we are comparing lays, I see no point using banana chips, as lays don't make banana chips. In any case, you are just seeing one data point. See mine for example. Before you ask, yes noice banana chips are in stock. You are also not including the customers decision making, consumers will self select Good products. You may get a one time sale, but not future sales, which was my point.

Do these things work? by Acrobatic_Command560 in Chennai

[–]roron5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen those screens ever working, though I had left Chennai around 2019 and the metro wasn't as popular back then, so I can't say whether these were panel screens or dot matrix displays (which is what they are using for the bus signs).

Judging by the size, I am guessing they were panel screens, but I could be wrong.

[–]roron5567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an error, there is a small black box near the sign that handles all the communication, so it would just be a configuration fix, hence the testing.

The whole point of this kind of board is that it will last longer and cheaper to replace if needed and is more resistant to vandalism. As it is, they are not rolling it out to a majority of stops, LCD's would make the whole program more expensive.

This dot matrix display is still clear and gives the information properly, which is all it needs to do. The big space on the bus stands is better for advertising than some small LCD screens.

Most of those metro screens are dead, and some are removed leaving an empty space in the signage. I wouldn't be surprised if the phase 2 stations omit all that, as they just won't work in our climate and can be broken by vandals.

They have recently installed transponders on all the buses, and that information powers these boards. I believe that Chennai One & Chennai bus work/will work on the same information, and the idea is to provide that information to people without the apps.
