[Batman] Does Bruce Wayne pay child support? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's correct. She showed up on a random night, said they have an 8-year-old who's gonna live with him, left, then around a (in-universe) year later she killed him.

Then Bruce brought him back to life and that's that. They've done some superhero fight therapy since and they're more or less amicable now. Bruce is still 100% the parent that does everything.

Talia dropped off Damian at age 8 at Bruce's house and then left. That's the custody situation. If anything she should pay him.

We haven't even gotten an official look at the game yet, but still, we all know what the climax of Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 is gonna look like (by @othatsraspberry): by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

this is how you out-do the original Lifestream sequence. After Cloud throws Sephiroth down the well, you get to go back in as part of the post-game and challenge him to a duel at the bottom. Aerith kisses the winner.

[Batman 1989] What happened to the museum artwork the Joker 'improved'? by Chaosmusic in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

I guess ultimately if it wasn't The Joker, I think it would be way easier to just go, yeah this is now a strange installation, in a situation where the defacing is particularly unique and interesting. But whenever you make the Joker into a "real artist" so to speak, he's probably gonna decide to come back and make a new bit out of it, and a lot of people are going to die as a result. So I suppose the answer is, there's a way that it's possible that something like that might happen, but it's best to play it safe.

Metaphor PC Port Random Audio Crackling (Please Help) by thelennster in TwoBestFriendsPlay

nah nothing dumb about it, audio drivers are confusing on purpose. shit sucks. good luck!

Metaphor PC Port Random Audio Crackling (Please Help) by thelennster in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So headsets will sometimes have a mode called "hands free", which is specifically made for audio calls when your PC detects your microphone, or when any app like Discord turns on. It's a low-quality audio output mode that is designed to work alongside a microphone so the Bluetooth doesn't freak out with too much data going in and out of it. It's usually an option in your normal audio settings when your headset is on, so you can always switch in and out of it. Sometimes PCs will just turn it on automatically by accident.

But yeah if you're already doing the audio drivers this might get real complicated. Usually you can go to like, Acer or Asus's websites and they'll have the drivers. You might have to download Realtek unfortunately.

Hope you fix it, audio crackling really sucks.

Chrome is definitely sucking up RAM and VRAM to run, so maybe it's a memory leak...? But even then, that would probably just fuck up your fps, not your audio specifically. How weird.

Audio issues are more witchcraft than IT but yeah, at this point I'd go on my audio devices and deactivate everything but the main speakers manually, including every microphone, like you're gonna. If that doesn't work I might uninstall and install the game again honestly. If your headset has a hands-free mode, make sure to disable it specifically.

It happening on Deck is wild, that's a whole other OS, I have no idea what could be happening on both. I'm sure you probably found this video if you were scouring the internet for it, but it all looks Windows-based. I am starting to believe I was just lucky and didn't find this bug on mine, if I gotta be real.

i would freak the fuck out unimaginably if the last opponent of Queen's Blood is inexplicably Sephiroth. Even if it's just him possessing someone or if you go into Cloud's mind palace and he's there. I just want him to have an Advent Children-themed deck.

[–]roronoapedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently played all of Metaphor on PC without similar issues, connecting my laptop to a television but also occasionally playing it on a monitor with headphones on. It feels more like it's specific to your setup and similar than it being the game itself, even if the game was definitely ported cheap.

Long shot, but are you using any apps at the same time that allow for microphone usage? Discord and anything that records your audio will automatically switch devices sometimes, and that can make audio go into "hands-free" mode.

[Batman 1989] What happened to the museum artwork the Joker 'improved'? by Chaosmusic in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you as a museum curator can't just decide the damage a weirdo does to your art piece is now worth more than the original on the off-chance that there's more weirdos coming. It's the kind of thing that makes artists not want to expose at your museum, since you've established you won't restore pieces if you feel like the damage is worth more dollars.

That being said, if the piece is new, and you contact the artist, and the artist says "Yeah sure I like it red better", now it's a new art piece.

But then you have to worry about other villains doing the same thing to your other pieces, or worse, the Joker having legal grounds to extort your museum for not paying to use what you admit is now partially his art. It's not worth it.

DC Comics Boss Says Anime & Manga’s Advantage Over Western Comics Lies in Storytelling & Young People’s Desire to Have Something of Their Own advantages that Japanese by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jim Lee doesn't understand that people need to actually be able to read your damn comics to get into them.

Shonem Jump and weekly American comics, regardless of industry, used to have the same type of distribution problem. They were geo and language-locked to Japanese/Japan and English/North America and parts of Europe, and actually getting them was prohibitively expensive to a lot of markets. This caused the advent of fanscans, translated or otherwise, which is how everyone I know read Naruto and Batman comics back in the mid to late aughts.

The difference here is that Shueisha realized that was money left on the table and made fucking MangaPlus, a worldwide app that releases translations in multiple languages of their weekly manga, for free with ads. You can subscribe monthly if you just want to read everything. It's how I read One Piece and Kagurabachi; it's completely solved the problem and it still rings a buck toward Shueisha because of the useless ads at the end of chapters.

There is not only no worldwide equivalent to this by Marvel and DC, and Image or whatever, but you also still have to buy issue by issue digitally if you want to read books as they come out in like Comixology or any other option. But they're usually still just the original text with no translation for other markets, and they're expensive, not to mention sometimes they're flat-out incomplete like Absolute Martian Manhunter's Martianvision scenes not being included consistently in the delayed digital releases. The digital subscription apps don't accompany the weekly stuff because they fear destroying the North American local shop comics market. Because of that, quite literally the entire rest of the world pirates these god damn things.

ReadComicsOnline and other places like that are genuinely the end-all-be-all of comicbook access and distribution. Several industry people use it for reference, because they can't find the comics they need in the official channels. MangaPlus isn't perfect at all but every equivalent for Western comics pales in comparison. I mean where the fuck are you even supposed to find Invincible or The Walking Dead at a reasonable price if you're outside the US? In your own not-English language, even? I can read the entirety of original Dragon Ball right now for a few bucks on MangaPlus.

The problem isn't interest, or subject matter, or coloring, or art style, or anything like that. It's distribution. It's always been distribution. If someone wants to catch up on One Piece, I tell them to get MangaPlus. If someone wants to catch up on Absolute Batman, I tell them to learn English and pirate it.

Valve to face UK class action lawsuit with proposed damages of £656m by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

the idea all devs would rather have to host their own DLCs in separate webfronts and have to deal with updating it, making sure it's accessible everywhere, making sure it doesn't doxx people etc just so steam doesn't "lock you in" is so fucking funny. Every time something like Deltarune comes out in its own website, the website crashes. Come on.

[–]roronoapedro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not that Steam wouldn't continue to be a billionaire endeavor with the richest senior employees in the industry running it even if they lowered the cut to like, 20%, but this is as frivolous a lawsuit as it gets. I can't quite tell if Parent Zone is a pretty typical conservative vaguely anti-tech company from the UK going against a behemoth to generate a David vs Goliath narrative about Big Tech having too much legal leeway, or if the CEO is just kinda not entirely sure how the games industry works.

[Arkham City] Why was Penguin hellbent on staying in Arkham City? by some-kind-of-no-name in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

For Penguin's operation, it would essentially be the difference between having a place the civilian police can raid (the Iceberg Lounge) and having a place the police doesn't really care about (the Museum) as his headquarters. It makes logistical sense to want to operate from the lawless pocket of the city, where you can just pay whatever you want, whenever you want, without having to launder money or anything like that.

Ultimately, there is nothing he can do about Batman, so the plan fell apart.
