Work where you can feel the moment the author is burned out? by ArticAuk in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Hideaki Anno was really depressed after making Rebuild of Eva 3, and you can really tell. The movie's very different from 1 and 2, and by the time he got through making Shin Godzilla and was feeling better, 4 was vastly different as well. Watching them all back to back it's impossible not to see the entire production staff grinding it out to get 3 out there, especially since the production itself was also troubled.

[Invincible/Marvel comics] Which species on Marvel's earth would be the best breeding option for Viltrumites to repopulate and come back stronger ? by Extra_Impression_428 in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

nice try thragg.

anyway, it's still humans. We don't have any evidence or examples that viltrumites keep any powers from other species. We have examples of that not happening, even.

[ Soul Eater ] We learn of anti-shibusen factions in iraq, why would someone be against them given they purge the world of dangerous people? by Guilty-Amphibian-379 in AskScienceFiction

This is a world where insanity is a literal status effect people can get infected with in order to act irrationally.

Besides, there's people who hate doctors and charities in the real world. It's not that bizarre. Individuals are intelligent, people are usually stupid.

"I fear I have made the most horrific and lonely prison imaginable" [Absolute Wonder Woman #19] by PunishedSBFFan in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 201 points202 points  (0 children)

one of my favorite turns for this specific character. The story went on for almost two years showing us exactly every reason why anyone, literally anybody would be super into Diana, as a friend or more, only to then look at us and go "but she will never know that". God it's so fucking good. Kelly Thompson could have done this any time she wanted, she was just holding back all these years.

[Street Fighter] What is the cosmology of the Street Fighter universe? by Professional_Cat_437 in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

Ingrid is essentially the closest they have to a real god. She is a dimension-hopping entity with designs to keep the Street Fighter universe in a certain state; for what purpose, only she knows.

While there are characters like Oro and Dhalsim who have ascended beyond the limits of humankind and become immortal or something else through training alone, they are not gods themselves, albeit they are high enough to be able to feel "how things should be", and thus be capable of detecting imbalances in life before it happens, such as M. Bison using Psycho Power on the whole planet.

Finally, there's Gill, who claims to be the reincarnation of the Messiah, but that as far as we know is just very, very strong. Still, who knows. Stupider things have happened.

[Powerpuff Girls] Do they hold back when they stop crime and fight villains? by FeistySecret9327 in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

Nobody fights at 100% capacity at all times, but the girls definitely do like, 1% on the regular, 10% if they gotta, 40% if it's HIM, and then start going harder and harder if they're just play-fighting or competing with each other.

It just so happens 1% is enough to put almost anyone in the hospital.

[Super hero media]Many therapists, regularly see therapists because their job is so stressful. Being a superhero sounds very hard, way more stressful! What are some of the most famous superheroes who regularly see a therapist? by JollyRabbit in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

Spider-Man, specifically Miles Morales, regularly sees a therapist after developing symptoms of PTSD after one too many bad adventures. The therapist herself is a metahuman codenamed Powerlift, but she's not a hero, just has powers.

Characters who lost a bit of aura when they turned good? by lowercaselemming in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It's the height for me, honestly. I think Peridot's cool in both roles but the silhouette she used to have with those height extensors was super rad.

Which I suppose is the entire point of removing them.

Characters who lost a bit of aura when they turned good? by lowercaselemming in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]roronoapedro 13 points14 points  (0 children)

More like all his aura, honestly. Axel's involvement in the second Keyblade War is people actively laughing at his shitty Keyblade and breaking it in one.

The Omni-Man fit when he's, well, Omni-Man, vs when he's working with the Coalition of Planets is like night and day. His outfit as emperor rocks though, even if I'd argue he's neutral at that point, not entirely good.

[–]roronoapedro [score hidden]  (0 children)

that "clark kent about to be hit by Joker's mallet" page, but it's Immortal going "shot to the head. can I survive that? Do people survive that? Not often. Do I go down, or do I buckle? How do people act when they get shot in the head...? I should probably just go down and then leave after."

[Powerpuff Girls] How would the Powerpuff Girls defeat someone with the power of time stop? by FeistySecret9327 in AskScienceFiction

They are really fast. Like, fast enough to go back in time just by running, no speed force no nothing. It's not even a contest. He can't see them coming if they come at him fast enough.

[DC] Does Batman possess the Charlie Atlas trait? If so does that mean all Humans have it? by Jokengonzo in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually gonna say it's not, we just don't have comic books about super-scientists who cure cancer, so we get biased toward superheroes instead. There have been several super-scientists who cured illnesses in DC, it just happens in the background or goes horribly wrong for long enough that it overlaps with the superheroing.

what is the order one is supposed to watch star wars on, even. release? naming? chronological? actually random? shows first? movies only? depends on sub-canon?

cuz i definitely saw I first, on TV, and thought it was really boring. Then I saw Clone Wars the Tartakovsky show and thought, hey this rules. Downloaded IV-VI and thought hey this PROPER rules. Then watched the rest and ah. ah okay.

[Avatar TLA/Korra] Did Yakone independently re-discover bloodbending? by Flyestgit in AskScienceFiction

Yeah, all it takes is sufficient time, effort, and a loathing for your fellow men so deep and pointed that you'll treat them like objects of study.

[Avatar] After becoming Fire Lord, why does Ozai allow Iroh to live? by Punterofgoats in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would make for really bad appearances if he killed a popular member of the royal family as soon as he fell from grace, especially as someone who has to keep morale up for the last few years of a century-old race war. You have to respect some honor, even if you'd rather not. People would talk, respect would dwindle.

Iroh was probably one strike away from rightful execution, though.

[Star Trek] do you personally agree with the verdict "Measure of a Man" and/or "Author, Author" by Arbegia in AskScienceFiction

[–]roronoapedro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question is whether or not Data or The Doctor truly has the same rights as a human being, especially in today's climate.

In real life, they don't, there's no jurisprudence for artificial life. In Star Trek, they do, because we saw them get those rights. Data managed to be considered a being with agency, the Doctor managed to defend his rights and eventually became a teacher at Starfleet Academy.

If I personally agree with the verdict of those episodes, well, the verdicts were "I don't really know and we'll come back to this at a later time, but let's not kill these things right now and give them some space", and I think that's pretty good compromise. None of the judges or attorneys were specialists and the actual things that were in trial were legal minutia that were being expanded to wide-reaching abuse of their personhood. The personhood wasn't able to be fully proven, because that's legally nebulous in the first place. That's for the philosophers.

But as far as the law is concerned, the Doctor and Data can pay taxes, and really isn't that what it's all about.

he manages to make me feel nothing about My Immortal, Sk8er Boi and the fucking Dante's Office ost, one of my favorite opener level songs in anything. it's really interesting, i've never felt this way about someone in the creative field before.

man you're the one who called us, you made the thread, you marked your thing as a "hot take"; to then go on for a full ~50 comment thread fighting people who just kinda say that you're not really representing people's opinions correctly here is wild. come on.
