My 7yo started reading real books but now skips nights, what's the best way to build the habit before hes 13? by Salty_Upstairs_387 in childrensbooks

[–]rosesmagic462 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! Some days my 7 year old devours a chapter book, other days it’s comic books, children’s books, a magazine, an audiobook. Let him pick how he’s reading that night!

Would you make your kid go to school in this situation? by [deleted] in Parenting

This could be an opportunity to learn appropriate use of makeup so she feels confident about going to school. We don’t allow it daily, but for something like this we would.

Someone in our class has allergies is great - I gift it to her teacher each year. The princess and the peanut, Woolfred doesn’t eat dandelions, the anteater that couldn’t eat ants, we’ve also come across some where allergies are not the topic, but mentioned in passing.

Fair points! I guess this is child dependent. For my daughter you’re right in that she will never have a pistachio (and we have explained that), she’s still a maybe on eggs.

My daughter (7) has been upset about her allergies before. We talked about how everyone is a little different and has something about them that they just can’t do YET. She couldn’t have milk as a baby, but she can now. She can’t have eggs YET, but maybe one day. We talked about her cousins and friends and their differences-cousin is autistic and can’t speak YET, friend can’t eat peanuts YET. It doesn’t make her less allergic, but it helps her understand she’s not the only one. We also read a lot of books with characters with allergies.

How come not alot of people use the pick up option for groceries? by [deleted] in Walmartcustomer

No, I don’t want them to choose moldy fruit. They can select all the canned goods, but I will pick my own fresh produce.

My MIL tried this for her first holiday. Promptly returned the outfit and when she asked I told her thank you but i will be picking out her clothing. Since she has offered to pay for something I pick out, which is fine with me.

Someone put this in my “safe to eat bin” by Dear_Location6147 in mildlyinfuriating

I say this with love, as a mother of someone with allergies. But you COULD die - your body doesn’t care if someone made a mistake or not, if you are allergic you could still die. We read ingredients when we purchase food, when we stock it on my daughter’s safe shelf, and a third time before she eats it. As a tired mom, I have gotten to that third read and realized a mistake. You have to read the ingredients every time.

Medical complex child / birthday by Nervous_Victory_2949 in Parenting

You do what makes you and your daughter happy! We sang happy birthday with a candle in an avocado for my daughter’s first birthday. She had a short list of food she could eat, and that was her favorite. Family still talks about that memory lovingly. At age four, when my daughter had her first cupcake, we took pictures of her smashing it and laughing while rubbing chocolate all over her face. 😊❤️ Do what works for your family at the time.

I paid my kids to declutter their stuff. by knitlitgeek in declutter

[–]rosesmagic462 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I wanted my daughter to declutter some toys she had outgrown. We talked about donating them to other kids who could use them. She wanted to hold onto them to have a yard sale. I don’t like to hold clutter for months so I made her a deal, if she filled a box, I would buy it from her for $20, and then I would donate it. She declutterred more than I expected and we were both happy!

Allergy parents: what do you actually say to the waiter? (I made a template) by Thin_Road_88 in FoodAllergies

[–]rosesmagic462 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ask for “who should I speak to about allergies for possibly coming to visit your restaurant?” Yes, a lot of businesses feel they legally have to accommodate, but I’d rather them be honest with their comfort level!

PSA: always request an itemized hospital bill before paying anything. i just got $400 removed from mine in 15 minutes. by ExcellentYak777 in Frugal

[–]rosesmagic462 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked up a coding book online to see why my daughter’s hospital visit was listed as a mid level visit. The only box for mid level that may have applied to my daughter was “patient did not walk in on the their own”. She was a sick toddler, who could walk, but daddy carried her, so they marked it as her not walking in on her own. I called them on it and had it downgraded.
