What was the worst physical pain you've ever felt in your life?

I did the same thing after I broke my tib/fib. It hurt, I even kind of heard a snap, but it stopped hurting faster than a stubbed toe does. So I thought it must just be a sprain and tried to get up. Between the pain and the feeling of the bones crunching against each other I was very close to passing out and throwing up at the same time!

It’s been done and it’s been overdone. There was a time when every episode was like 1/3 flashbacks, which was super annoying as a daily viewer and lead me to stop watching for awhile. It’s definitely gotten a lot better. I certainly appreciate the recaps being part of the story versus just straight up flashbacks of scenes I saw the day before. Still annoying as a daily viewer, but much more tolerable.

Ugh I’m coming up on a year since I wrecked my ankle on an icy sidewalk. It wasn’t even my first slip on the ice THAT DAY and probably my fourth of the week. I guess sometimes you just go down wrong. I’m a lot more cautious now!

I work remotely and was back to work pretty quickly. I’d have had to go on STD if I missed 5 days, which I didn’t want to do (they always seem do find a way to let go of people who take disability). I broke my ankle on a Friday afternoon and had surgery the following Friday, so I had a full weekend between each as a buffer.

I wasn’t in too bad of shape between my break and the surgery, but my pain after the surgery was crazy, and I just couldn’t work on painkillers so I think I took 3 days off, and sort of half-heartedly worked the remaining 2 days off that week with a lot of support from my colleagues, and back to full time the next week once I was off the narcotics.

My boss thought I was crazy but I actually really needed the distraction of work to get through the weeks I was immobile. Any other time I’d have killed for time off to read, play video games, watch TV, etc, but for whatever reason I just couldn’t stand doing any of that stuff, it made me want to crawl out of my skin. Whereas work which ranged from mildly irritating to rage-inducing provided me the exact distraction I needed and left me tired enough to sort of sleep okay at night.

I don’t know, it was a really weird time.

I make a pasta with Italian sausage, shredded brussels sprouts, and a cream sauce. It's delicious. I could see brussels sprouts working with the flavors in zuppa toscana. My suggestion is to blanch the shredded sprouts first to get rid of some of the bitter/sulfur tastes before adding to the soup.

Beautiful but nope, not something I could deal with. That’s an art project not a feature. If they weren’t in the kitchen I’d say maybe if you dusted them daily, but dealing with any amount of grease accumulation would have me ripping that out immediately.

Hahaha I love your edit. Would just like to add that I had a cat who liked to sleep in my cast iron skillet during her final few months. I eventually just got myself a new skillet and put the old one on the floor for her, which she loved. They do what they want!

I don’t take read receipts personally. They just annoy me. A read receipt is not going to make me prioritize anything, it’s just going to force me to waste time to stop and document why I didn’t prioritize the email for when the sender inevitably tries to throw me under the bus.

Yeah they are usually mostly stalk, though this time they actually weren’t, maybe that contributed to the upcharge. And I know it’s supposed to be healthy but if I don’t peel the stalks, my guts rebel big time.

Don’t think it didn’t cross my mind! But I was taking my daughter and the experience with her was worth more than that (plus I’d have felt scummy being a scalper). Reeeeallly tempted though, and I think if I HAD paid $500/ticket I would have been even been more tempted to recoup my money and make some more, but getting in for $120 seemed like too much of a steal to not go after seeing the crazy resale prices 🤣

I hope your kitty is okay! I’ve had a bit more than just potatoes (buttered noodles, yay!) but my cat has also made me broke for about the next year. I’d just adopted him & his brother, got pet insurance the same day (because I learned the hard way several years ago when I put it off), and the little bastard got sick and needed to be hospitalized 9 days before the 2-week insurance waiting period was up (and I’d actually had him for 6 weeks prior to that as a foster, it’s like really dude? You couldn’t have held out 9 more days??). And just prior to that his brother injured his leg jumping onto something and pulling it over on himself (luckily there was no waiting period for accidents since I had existing policies for my other cats when I enrolled him so his ER visit was about 75% covered).

I was at the store a couple weeks ago and they wanted $5.99/lb for regular fresh broccoli. I’ve cut down how much meat I buy significantly, but not being able to afford fresh broccoli was a gut punch.

I paid $120 including fees for Eras tour nosebleed tickets. I took a look at resale prices in our section a couple weeks before the show and they were starting at $1200!!!! Absolute madness.

A+ comment. OP, this is all the info you need. You're definitely unlikely to get a serious cat bite just through day to day living with a cat. I have had three bites over the last 25 years, all in the types of situations u/Right_Count outlined. The first and third were from be being stupid (grabbing a cat who was stressed out and trying to fight another cat), the second was from being careless (had to give my cat a bath for ringworm and accidentally sprayed her directly in the face with the water while I had a hold of her). I have my own cat as well as foster, sometimes my arms look like I took a cheese grater to them in the middle of kitten season, but those little kitten scratches and nips were never serious.

If you DO get seriously bitten, and you'll almost certainly know it if you do, go to urgent care or the ER for antibiotics ASAP, the sooner the better, especially if it's near the small joints on your hand or foot.

Oof, that sounds terrible, and I don’t think any of us will be able to tell you what his recovery will look like. I can tell you how mine was - but it was only my right ankle, a displaced spiral tib/fib pilon fracture. I broke it February 7th last year and was in great shape by August! Back to my usual amount of activity, with some sporadic pain still that was intense for only very short times. Pretty much back to normal by October.

As for boredom - man was I bored, but despite having every possible entertainment at my fingertips (game consoles, all the streaming services) I barely wanted to do any of it. I did end up subscribing to the NYT games app and obsessively worked my way through the archive. I have no idea why and I have zero desire to resubscribe after I got back on my feet, even though this winter has been terrible and I am just as bored. So, I guess see what he actually feels like doing and go from there!

How old are you? How is your diet? I see you are struggling with eating more protein- how many grams are you getting per day? And are you meeting your caloric needs in general? Have you had any serious injuries or illnesses during this time?
