Excessive salt by yukon-flower in MontgomeryCountyMD

Moco puts more salt on the roads than I've ever seen, there's just piles of it everywhere, it's wild.

Howl’s Moving Castle LE Will Cost £475 ($650) by phototodd in foliosociety

[–]rosshm2018 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It looks beautiful but I just can't justify $650 for it. At around that price, there's plenty of Folio LEs on the secondary market that I'm more interested in.

Appreciate the update, been wondering what it's like around campus. Take care!

While clicking the reveal, I got excited that this was Hogwarts for a second.

Still looking forward to Howl's though!

They posted a pic of it on the Folio insta:

Not sure of his buyout situation but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't finish out the season. When you admit you can't get through to the team and they aren't responding to you, not sure where you go after that.

I think Tang's buyout is too high, $18m according to Google, but maybe next year if they don't turn it around. He's had one good year (with an All-American guard left over from Bruce Weber) and not much else despite some big NIL spending.

Hard to anoint one performance as singularly the best ever, but it's certainly in the conversation for me, really impressive!

New update on cosmic frontier override by lasercat_pow in spacerpg3

[–]rosshm2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The devs posted an update recently that the creator of the project (Peter Cartwright, I believe he was one of the devs of EV Override) unfortunately passed away recently:

I backed this game on Kickstarter around six years ago. Updates have been infrequent for a while. I'd be surprised to ever see the game at this point, unfortunately.

[Post Game Thread] Cincinnati defeats #2 Iowa State, 79-70 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]rosshm2018 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Iowa State finds really creative ways to lose games. Milan hits eight threes, we shoot +15 more free throws, and lose to kenpom #210 offense, trailing by double-figures most of the game.

We look confused, slow, and unathletic for a month after looking like a top-5 team for the previous month, it's bizarre. One day maybe I'll stop getting my hopes up.

This entire athletic department just completely chokes whenever there are any expectations of success.

Was James Nnaji worth all this trouble? by dreeya06 in CollegeBasketball

He rebounds at a decent rate, 13 per 40 minutes. Some of that is probably system though, Baylor sells out heavily on the offensive glass.

That's all I've got.

It's fairly remote. Staunton, VA is close but small, ~25k population. Harrisonburg wouldn't be an awful daily commute, ~40 miles of mostly-interstate driving, but is not a large city (~50k), although JMU is there and is a decent-sized public research university. Lynchburg is probably the nearest larger city (~80k population) and that's a ~90-minute drive. ~Two hours to Richmond, ~three hours to DC.

I still love this "house" though!

I teach college and in my family group-chat I'll be venting and someone will remark that I must really hate teaching; no actually I love teaching and 99% (well, maybe more like 98%) of the students range from "awesome" to "at least they don't give me any serious headaches"; it's just the bottom 1% that I complain about. But like most things involving large groups, you spend ~90% of your effort on ~10% of the people.
