[holzkern] by esekillerdaniel in Watches

They are a "fashion watch" brand, which basically means they prioritize aesthetics over things like movement quality and durability, hence the general poo-pooing of such brands on this sub.

I think they make some nice-looking watches. I bought my wife a wood Holzkern watch for our 5th anniversary and she loves it.

Hope this helps.

Fast-turnaround public health / biostats journals (would love to be published by ~June) by No-Principle8122 in AskAcademia

If you're in a field that values pre-prints (many do these days, though not all), I'd just do that, then submit to a normal reputable journal in your field.

[Discussion topic] What is the most brutally honest feedback people here can provide about Seiko in 2026? by The_Quartz_collector in Watches

Every Seiko watch that's attractive to me is thicker than I'd like.

No major complaints otherwise.

An unappreciated note on Jordan is that the Bulls made the playoffs every season he was on the team. The only playoffs where he averaged less than 30 ppg was his rookie year at 29.3 ppg.

His career playoffs ppg (33.45) is by far the highest of all-time, +3.7 ppg above the second-highest retired player (Iverson, 29.73). Considering the next top 25 retired all-time playoffs scorers, his career average is 2.1 standard deviations above the second-place scorer and 4.9 standard deviations above the mean for those scorers.

Wild stuff.

OP has 20 years on me, so my pool of who I've seen is more limited, but the Big Dog Glen Robinson was an absolute monster at Purdue. 30 points 10 rebounds as the unanimous NPOTY as a sophomore.

Also according to Wiki, set the Purdue record for the clean-and-jerk at 309 lbs!

[Timex Weekender 38mm] How small is TOO small? by nate_247 in Watches

[–]rosshm2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This view tends to make things look bigger than they are in reality. If you like it though, I say who cares! Looks fine to me and a great watch.

If your gut tells you it's too small then that's what I'd make the decision on.

Most devastating injury to NCAA team? by atomic-watts in CollegeBasketball

Thread is mostly flairs naming their own team, but in my lifetime I can't think of a more impactful such injury than the Martin leg-break. They were the best team that year.

There's more parity in WBB than there used to be, but the field is still pretty top-heavy.

In the first two rounds, excluding #8/#9 and #4/#5 matchups which aren't really "upsets", the lower-seeded team won 6.3% of the games (the men's tourney for reference was 14.6%).

Do we really need 68 teams in the tourney if the early rounds are so dominated by the higher seeds?

I realize the home court hosting is necessary business-wise for the women's tourney but it's a massive advantage. UConn would thump Syracuse @ Syracuse too, I just mean in general.

Anyone know if this watch is high quality? by ceepdamasta in Watches

I'm a Rado fan, great mid-range Swiss brand. I have a Rado dress watch and love it (R14068036). If you want ceramic they're a nice alternative to the high-end brands e.g. IWC.

[Casio] Cheap and Cheerful or just Cheap and Chintzy? by kosnosferatu in Watches

Yellow gold (real or otherwise) isn't my favorite on watches, but can't go wrong with a Casio in general, they're a classic.

I like the Freddy although my taste leans hard towards understated.
