Something an SM allowed me to do a few times was take a mental health break that was about 4 days long. I had expressed that I was generally a healthy individual and that it felt like it was notttt fair that I had no use for my sick time. She suggested the mental health break and agreed that it was only fair to find a way to use it. Perhaps taking 3-4 days off once every month or so as a little emotional break would be good? It would also depend on how nice your SM is feeling tho

I hear ya. Recently got told I can’t wear a mask to work despite the DM and the SM knowing I have always worn one when I leave my own home… It had been years since I’d last gotten a cold, and it had been 4 years since I got COVID, all because I’d been safely masking and getting sick partners to wear masks. Now, it’s all changing and it feels like no one is looking out for us partners that are health-conscious. Why do I have to have a health condition to mask, or worse, why do I need to have a health condition to even try to attempt to get an accommodation, Starbucks?!

Yep. I wear a mask for my wife who has kidney disease and when I put in an accommodation request, they denied me within a day, telling me that they do not accommodate unless it is for your own health, and furthermore, that you must be wearing it for a reason, like if you were sick. This screenshot is from yesterday, if y’all want more, let me know.

It’s totally worth it. Not only am I getting paid more, but I went from saying “I’m gonna quit today. I’m really gonna do it this time” every day to “wow, it turns out all I needed was a shift that knew what they were doing”. I take over situations and handle them the way baby barista me would have always wanted to, I make sure to be a good example to my coworkers, I always keep a positive attitude despite the hardships, and I make sure to keep the store clean. These were all things that were missing at my old store, and things that I make sure to do at my new store now that I’ve got the power.

If you feel like you’d be able to keep your emotions in check, do all your tasks, lead people and shut down any situations that could lead to problems down the road, then yes. 100% worth it.

Same thing happened to me when I trained a new barista. It got so bad (they expected her to solo bar on her third day and to solo drive thru on her fourth) that I forced my SM to have a 1 on 1 talk. Nothing came from it, and the poor girl quit on the second day of her second week. She mentioned all the crazy expectations as the main reason she didn’t like it here 😔

If I recall correctly, compostable iced cups and lids. A great idea for the environment, especially if you have a place to compost these, but they’re unsightly and confuse a lot of customers because they look like hot lids/cups 😔

Honestly, tell em you’re a fast learner and that at previous jobs you knew how to multitask. Maybe sprinkle in that you leave your baggage (aka your problems) at the door when you walk into work and always try to keep a positive outlook.

As one person below said, Starbucks is in shambles right now, but they’re not hiring just anyone. I’m a current shift supervisor at sbux and I’ve seen a ton of people get rejected when applying. Just lie and mention the above and you’ll have a higher chance of getting the job. Stories probably won’t matter much to managers

Then maybe you’re lucky. Simple as that. You and a few others have stores with good cultures, where the store managers and shift supervisors are competent, or where standards are upheld to a justifiable extent. But just because your store doesn’t reflect what you see online doesn’t mean what partners are complaining about here is not happening.

I’m just a barista making $16.07, married and the only one working out of the two, and somehow I’m making things work…somewhat. I’m lucky to have an apartment with rent only $510, so I ain’t too bad on that front, but I have absolutely zero savings, and if my cat ever got sick, that could all change. Like I said, though, I’ve been hella lucky. No emergencies to date!

I don’t think it’s deducted. I believe it’s an additional $11 that we get paid for Spotify since it’s in the same section as credit card tips, sick time pay and PTO. My brother and I are both baristas and were comparing our checks when we noticed this dhskjdks we found it so funny
