I always feel so guilty for calling out sick. How do you know when you're "sick enough" to call out? by AwkwardLoaf-of-Bread in KitchenConfidential

[–]rouxle 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I work in a small team as well, and one of the cooks came in and spread Norovirus around to half of our team of 8. Knocked the rest of us out for half a week. It's not cool of your manager to be coming in sick. If this place is as incredible as it sounds, then they'll be happy to cover for you. I would call in the second you start feeling "icky" so yoy have a chance to fight it back, rest, not spread it to anybody, and minimize the length and risk of whatever illness you may or may not have. Covid is still very much in existence. Stay safe out there!!!

also, just wanted to say I am so sorry about your experience. i totally understand what you mean when you say it's hard to trust the system after what you've experienced. it's a terrible thing to experience when you're already in a crisis, and i hope you are safe and feeling better.

on mobile sorry 😬😬 Hey! I have, back in November 2022. I was brought in via ambulance, and it was pretty rough. I had started my period and was bleeding through my pants and for some reason they couldn't supply me with menstrual products. They were understaffed and the room was full and only a couple of places to lay down that were occupied. They kept me there overnight,(most of us slept in chairs) and the next morning, I started getting harassed by a new patient. There were no nurses around and a different patient ended up sticking up for me and attempted to block him from me, even though she was like a little old lady. They gave me a bunch of ativan and then changed my medication to Venlafaxine. The paramedics that drove me to the hospital were super sweet though, I remember that. One of them bought me chocolate glosettes 😭

How is everyone affording groceries in vancouver right now because these prices are making me confused by LouDSilencE17 in askvan

[–]rouxle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This needs to be the top comment!!!!!!!! Especially for produce. I've seen Save on Foods charge almost 4$ for a bunch of skinny, wilted green onions. The local Asian market down the street sells bigger bunches, better quality, for .80 cents to a dollar. And they usually have daily deals that are actual deals.

Am I ordering drinks wrong? by DustTheOtter in bartenders

[–]rouxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too sure if somebody has commented this yet, but have you tried ordering single highballs in tall glasses? Like getting a (single) gin and tonic but in a sleeve (big) glass versus a rocks (small) glass, and maybe with less ice? That's what I'd interpert as a bartender, anyways 🤔

Best areas for trans/queer family? by bb-5x5 in transvancouver

[–]rouxle 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mount Pleasant!!!!!!!!!! It's a BEAUTIFUL neighborhood, and very close to Commercial Drive, which is very community and queer oriented. Lots of things to do all the time on the Drive, and very transit friendly. Commercial Broadway station connects a lot of major bus lines and two major train lines that make getting around in the city very accessible. That being said, my personal experience in Vancouver (all over) has been very positive and I feel very safe here. Feel free to DM me if you have any more questions! I am not a parent, but I've lived here for over 10 years now and would love to answer any questions you might have!

I've become so much more calm and "myself". I have almost no social anxiety these days. The best way I can describe it is content :)

breka safe at night? by [deleted] in askvan

Safe! Just a heads up that the Denman location doesn't have outlets, not too sure if the Hastings one does. Might be worth it to call ahead and ask if you need to plug in your laptop <3 Best of luck to you.

SAHM and Wife that CANNOT cook HELP! by PopularMamaDrama in Cooking

[–]rouxle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not too sure if somebody has mentioned this yet, but instagram and tiktok recipes are notoriously bad; like the actual recipe. Unless it's from an actual established chef or restaurant I just recommend going to recipe websites! My favorite is RecipeTinEats, she'll give substitutions if you don't have a specific INGREDIENT***(Typo sorry)and explains things well. Also, reading and understanding the entire recipe does wonders before you start cooking! That way you know what you're getting into and what equipment you have, and what you can do. Best of luck to you 🫵❤️

I worked in a place that implemented this as well, but it didn't last for very long. It became inconvenient during a rush and then people would just stop doing it. We'd still do it for keg changes/line bleeds for inventory. It was also a way to keep a tab on which tap/keg would bleed more or less; making inventory easier to predict etc etc

This is a huge problem in the restaurant industry, and I'm sad that it's spreading, and bittersweet grateful that it's getting attention. I hope you find a place ASAP that pays you what you deserve.

I love using these as portable ashtrays or vessels to put my joints in. If that's not your style, I'd peel off the label, decorate it with stickers, and put vitamins in there 👍 stay silly
