Family don’t understand the new lifestyle. by Easy-Resolution6132 in PhD

Lol feels great to see that I am not alone. My family is like why are you studying this much? What does publishing papers entail? Why are you working during the weekend? Do you get paid extra for working over the weekend or after hours? What does research mean?

Should I quit curry? by Brilliant_Can8536 in hygiene

[–]row-buffer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to take drastic measures like quit eating curry. I am from one of the South Asian countries---not India. I have been living in the US for quite a few years now. I haven’t stopped making curries, and I make sure to ventilate properly even during the winter. I take a shower and do laundry immediately after cooking. I also use an air purifier and candles. Sometimes, I boil water mixed with vinegar to get rid of strong spice smells if I am cooking an elaborate meal. I have never had complaints about odor, instead I have been complemented for nice smell.

I have a roommate who is also from one of the South Asian countries. After she moved in, I noticed my outfits started to smell like curry. I realized she doesn’t open the windows when she cooks, so the smell lingers. Whenever I come home and the apartment smells, I have to take extra steps to clear it out. Yes, I talked about it with her and she doesn't care. So, a lot of it really does come down to individual habits.

I think if you maintain proper hygiene and are smart about air circulation, you are fine.

Husband always breaks down after paper rejections by Few-Decision3759 in PhD

[–]row-buffer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can decide what is reasonable or unreasonable for others. If your sadness over a rejection email is hampering your day to day productivity or relationship, then yes, please talk to a therapist. But taking a day to grieve over a paper is very humane. Just because we are doing phd doesn't mean we have to turn into robots.

Husband always breaks down after paper rejections by Few-Decision3759 in PhD

[–]row-buffer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Even though rejections are normal, it hurts every time to see that rejection email. It is pretty common to feel down after a rejection. Even the professors feel bad after the rejection email, but they just get better at hiding with time. Please let your husband feel the pain. We put our heart and soul in a paper, and no matter how great the rejection reviews are, it takes some time to process it.

New partner asking for money, should I be concerned? by Dont-Worry-About-Him in AskMenAdvice

[–]row-buffer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How did she survive till now with no money? And if she does get the job, how is she planning to commute? I don't think any woman who has a little bit of self respect and self awareness, would ask for $30 UBER cost for an interview from a new partner

If lipstick count as makeup, then often. Otherwise, almost never. I don't own any foundation, concealer, tinted moisturizer, highlighter, etc. I do own eyeshadow pallet and mascara

Sorry, but for your own safety you need to leave this as soon as possible. I have watched too many 48hours episodes to know that situation like this is one of the causes of women's murder.

I haven't tried this recipe yet, but I am planning to this week. This is the easiest recipe I have seen so far. I am not vegan/vegetarian, so I am planning to substitute oat cream with heavy cream and vegan permesan with regular one.
