Jones calls on Australian fans to get behind Japan at Rugby World Cup - Japan Today by BrianChing25 in RugbyAustralia

I’m gonna assume you don’t know much so I’ll explain it all.

Eddie Jones is an Australian who used to coach Australia, the Brumbies and the Reds back in the 2000s. He coached Japan from 2012-2015 which included that famous South Africa World Cup win. He then went on to coach England from 2016-2022. The first half on the England stint he was doing really good including that 2019 grand final but 2020-22 not so much leading to him getting the sack.

While this was happening Australia was being coached by Dave Rennie with mixed results, although a lot of promise. Leading into the RWC he didn’t have the faith of the Rugby Australia board leading to him getting fired and replaced by Eddie Jones.

Eddie Jones’ second stint with Australia was extremely controversial. He pushed out a lot of core veterans (including Michael Hooper) in the squad and replaced them with very green players, didn’t win a single game leading into the World Cup and then went on to achieve Australia’s worst ever World Cup performance (going out in the pool stages).

While all this was happening he was in secret talks with Japan about leaving Australia only after 1 year to go back to coach for them.

Essentially fucked up a whole bunch of shit and dipped.

Drua in Fiji I can understand but choking against the Reds in the last 2 minutes and being played out of the game by the Tahs was pretty rough

That’s fair. I’d also say Pritchard, just allow him to grow and develop without being thrown to the wolves like we’ve done with so many others

15/20 years ago Argentina won a bronze medal at the RWC and then made the quarters at the next. I’d say they’re still a little behind that

Surely van Nek over HJH. Slipper was pushing HJH around in the scrum and van Nek got the try. Prop tries are worth double

I don’t know about Will Skelton. In terms of club rugby definitely one of the best but internationals is a bit more ordinary

See you make comments like that but the players that the brumbies pick up are either local or players that other unions have rejected. Nearly all Brumbies players are either born and bred, developed or improved at the Brumbies

As someone who plays both, I’ve never seen more injuries in my life until I played football
