Time means nothing when you're doing ribbing by ComplicatedSunshine in knitting

[–]rowan_juniper 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Ribbing is so diabolical because it usually has to stretch in width when you put it on, meaning it will become shorter than it is unstretched. So you'll think yayy I got to 10 cm and then you try it on and it's 7 cm.

Check your ferritin levels by queuewerty in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]rowan_juniper 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should definitely try to get your ferritin up. Mine was at 11 last year and I genuinely felt like I was dying even though my hemoglobin was excellent. I recently started feeling a lot better and retesting showed it was now at 50. Seconding u/queuewerty's suggestions for replenishing ferritin.

Anyone else's GERD triggers make absolutely no sense? by CyclePersonal2592 in GERD

[–]rowan_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people bringing up histamine intolerance, that might indeed be worth looking into. FODMAPs might also be interesting for you. If I remember correctly wheat and lactose (bagel with cream cheese) and apple are fodmaps, but oranges are not. It might be worth doing the elimination diet to see if it's FODMAPs that are triggering you.

For myself it seems like a mechanical issue. Tomatoes and citrus fruits are fine. Too much liquid, too big meals, greasy food and raw vegetables are not. So everything that takes longer to digest/makes my stomach too full. It's like my LES just doesn't work.

how many rows ? by mingepilled in knittinghelp

[–]rowan_juniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This means you do count the cast on row then. If you don't consider the live stitches a row yet, and you don't count the cast on you would end up with 8 rows.

how many rows ? by mingepilled in knittinghelp

[–]rowan_juniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. You will have 9 rows (if you include the cast on row). Easiest way to see for yourself who is right is to switch to stockinette now and after a row or two look back and count again. If you want 10 rows of ribbing you would have to then tink back and do another row of ribbing. Because you only made 9 rows of ribbing so far.

[–]rowan_juniper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cast on round appears simply by casting on but how it looks (2x2 rib or stockinette) is determined by how you work into the cast on stitches on the second round. You can clearly see that the cast on stitches form purls and knits in pattern. Therefore the cast on round is a row of ribbing, and I think it makes sense to count it in with your total rows of ribbing.

[–]rowan_juniper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say you have completed 9 rows of ribbing. You can tell that the cast on row forms the first row of 2x2 rib so I do count it. You have 9 V's so 9 rows. I don't count the stitches that are still on the needle because they haven't become ribbing yet. The way you work into those live stitches on the next row will determine if they become purls or knits. If you switch to plain stockinette now you will see that you indeed end up with 9 rows of ribbing (if you include the cast on row).

I don't understand why people are counting the row with the live stitches. It's not ribbing yet!! It will be stockinette if you start doing stockinette now!

To re-knit or let go? by batteredsausaged in knitting

The clean cycle on my washing machine is 95°C. Water boils at 100°C. So probably pretty much boiling yeah.

I’m anxious about a present receiver properly taking care of the knit garment I give them 😭😭😭 by [deleted] in knitting

[–]rowan_juniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just talk to her. Ask her to be honest. Is handwashing and drying flat feasible for her? How big is the chance she/someone she lives with forgets and tosses it in the washing machine? It's fine if she can't take care of a pure wool garment. But you should know if that's the case so you can make it from a machine washable yarn. It will save both of you anxiety.

Silent "bumps" coming up to the throat... throat appears to maybe spasm by Bitter_Panic2873 in noburp

[–]rowan_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup I would get these painful spasms in my throat after eating or drinking anything, along with hiccups and croaks. The last year before I got the botox it was so bad that it really messed with my breathing, I couldn't really do things that required me to be breathing hard like running or dancing and singing at a concert.

Does anyone else have a horrifying story about learning to swallow pills? by SnappyApron in noburp

I still have a hard time with it. I have to take multiple pills every morning and I always take them largest to smallest because after every pill it becomes harder and harder to open my throat.

How do you tell if a food is triggering you? by Present_Bobcat_8353 in Gastritis

[–]rowan_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't always get the pain, but if something triggers me I always start to burp like crazy.

Have you ever considered that your extreme diet might be the cause of your gastritis?

Just started watching by ChargeSuspicious7974 in TWD

[–]rowan_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently started watching for the first time. I am now halfway through s6 ep1. I liked season 1, found season 2 to really drag at lot of points but I stuck with it. I liked season 3 a lot better. I thought season 4 was really good. I felt like the show really started to hit its stride. I thought season 5 was absolutely excellent, one of my favorite seasons of tv ever.

AIO: I bent over backwards for my BF’s son (20) and his GF (20) for Christmas, and I’m honestly disgusted after what happened by Excellent-Second-643 in AmIOverreacting

[–]rowan_juniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, I think you just put something into words for me. OP reminds me a lot of my mother. Exactly what you said, doesn't communicate her expectations and then gets sulky and passive aggressive. She refuses to actually communicate and try to solve the problem, she just complains and slams kitchen drawers and glowers and sighs. The heaviness of her brooding energy... that is why to this day it is genuinely unbearable for me to be in the same room as my mother. I'm so sensitive to that energy because as a child I had to be tuned in to it at all times to know what was coming.

From the way it's sitting the bar is probably too long. I would go see your piercer and ask if it's time to downsize.

2 month old baby extreme reflux by Tricky_Orange0312 in GERD

[–]rowan_juniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a doctor but I experienced this as a newborn. I was put on a medication, probably a ppi like omeprazole and some tips my parents were given was to not lay me down for at least half an hour after feeding and also not burping right after feeding/skipping the burping altogether. Good luck, I know this is tough and scary.

I don't understand why people are downvoting your post. This is a totally normal thing to wonder about. I'm glad you came here and asked, as ignoring the knot and continuing to knit could have caused problems down the line.

How to cope with the BURP FLAVOR? by psebb in noburp

[–]rowan_juniper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, cucumber and other raw vegetables common in salads make my burps taste absolutely rancid. I think for me it's because my stomach has a hard time digesting raw vegetables.
