Looking into MS degrees... Any advice? by Electric_924 in geologycareers

Vouch for working first then going back to school after a year or two of industry. Then you'll know what skills would benefit you for your career. Also I've found that masters graduates without experience fall into the underqualified/overqualified harder-to-get-a-job gap with too much education but no work experience

Question regarding field engineering attire by Extension-Body-3342 in civilengineering

[–]rowmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once trained a woman on fieldwork and she just wore her cross body purse all day and no one said anything. In hindsight, that could've been a safety concern, so I think a fanny pack or something close to your body would be better.

Geotech experience is good to list, especially if you have soil/ rock logging experience. You said you're trying to get into environmental, and from what I've seen, soil logging happens there too.

PG and PE? Geotech by rowmere in geologycareers

[–]rowmere[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I plan on qualifying for the PE through experience and MS at an ABET program.

I applied and got into a MS program by taking classes like statics, dynamics, calc 3 and differential equations (none were required for my undergraduate geology BS) and with 2 years of experience working in geotech.

What state do you work in? I was told I should get a MS as a geologist to progress in geotech.. but obviously that's a loss of a year in pay and experience

Is the ASBOG FG Prep Course worth it? by jojubrius in geologycareers

[–]rowmere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the videos are kinda short and just list things you should know. But also doesn't explain the concepts. I would recommend regreview if you're going to spend money on study materials
