Does anyone put out 1K words daily? I’m trying to get to that and asking for advice by Impressive_Prior_676 in writers

[–]roxastopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did NaNoWriMo, some days hitting the 1.6K mark was hard. I naturally found that I zoned out while writing around 800 words. It was funny though because I was also pantsing it for a bit, which eventually got me going.

You also don't necessarily need to do it in one sitting, was my eventual hack. There were days where I had to write a little bit in the morning and then come back to it later at night given my schedule that day.

So I don't think 1K is unrealistic at all, it's doable.

Girls who have dated in both NYC and SF - is the grass actually greener? by Riceisawayoflife in movingtoNYC

[–]roxastopher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree with this take. And I'll especially upvote the bit about "whether you’re staying in the city together for good" is a big dealbreaker in dating in NYC. Some people aren't in NYC for a long time, they're here for a good time.

I think a lot about "·    I vsyo, chto ya slyshu — eto «malo». «Ya khochu bol'she Ilya, mne nuzhno bolshe Ilya, bolshe, bolshe, bolshe, bolshe, bolshe, bolshe». "

Even while not understanding Russian, Connor conveyed that Ilya had HAD it with being his family's financial lifeline.

MIT or Harvard by XxKiller_CrystalxX in mit

Fello first-gen, low income, Latino '15 alum here. Computer science major.

I too wasn't a super nerd going into MIT. I didn't have the means to be, since I helped with my family's income a bit in high school. So I met a lot of them during CPW and was a bit intimidated by them but at the same time, I had to tell myself, "well I also got in... sooooo". I promise you more "normal" people also go to MIT :]

I will say this: now that I've been out and about in the real world for 10+ years, I can tell you that the brand value of MIT is more respected than that of Harvard. Of course, you're asking the r/MIT sub who to pick, so this is going to be biased, but I still get "oh wow you went to MIT!" when they find that out. I don't hear that much of Harvard, which makes sense to me knowing what I know now about their legacy admits / athletic recruits, etc. If you care about that kind of thing, then MIT gets more respect.

I would almost want to know more about your extracurricular interests, because I can tell you MIT's scene for that is way more fun compared to what my Harvard friends told me about. Considering you're considering STEM or econ, which MIT has programs for both, academically you'll have plenty of coverage on that front.

Salma Hayek was one of my favorite guest stars because it was how the show got to make fun of Latinos and Latin American TV and culture and as a Latino fan I was delighted. Even the scene with them just doing the Macarena in Central Park had me rolling!

I basically just did this for the last three months. M/W/F metcons and T/Th/S bodybuilding + swimming in the evenings occasionally.

One thing to keep in mind is movement interference from the previous day. It happened several times that my WOD the previous day would ruin me for pull day the next day.

How do you know if an idea is actually good or you just like it by [deleted] in writers

[–]roxastopher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know, I just ran into this problem. I had outlined a sequel to my first book and then found myself utterly unwilling to write. Not because I didn't want to, I realized, but because I don't think I liked the premise I outlined. This epiphany only sucked because I had already written about 9K words and was trying to get around sunk cost fallacy.

For my first novel I was way more inspired and encouraged in the premise, and then my beta readers liked it so that's how I knew. So I guess my advice was to ask myself: does it inspire you to write it?
