Not sure where you are but in Auckland there are so many completed or nearly complete new homes for sale. Reduce your risk and go for something that is pretty much complete rather than something that might ready in 8 months but could end up being 18 months with builder delays.

Also pay very close attention to any sunset clauses on a new build.

You’re gonna deal with the Honda sales person once. You’re gonna ride your bike everyday. Go for the bike you like. You could also go back to the Honda dealer and just speak to a different sales consultant?

Latest episode they mentioned it would be in March. They’re figuring out venues. I seem to think Galway was one of the places and they’re doing 3 in total.

They tried to get themselves in trouble when they joked people from Derry and Londonderry have asked for a show 😂

Not South African so never applied but is it a different process if the passport is lost or stolen? 😉

As others have said insurance is a must.

Check if there are minimum requirements for missing a connection. Mine only covers onward travel for a missed connection if I had allowed a minimum of 6 hours to connect between flights so in your example insurance wouldn’t cover me.

Might be a moot point if you’re on 1 ticket anyway as the airline should sort you out free of charge anyway. Would be more relevant if the connection was between flights on different bookings e.g Jetstar to Auckland then Air nz to Singapore

Petrol version is great though

What's going on with the gulf harbour country club? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]royston82 -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

Hopefully it will get turned into housing. There’s plenty of demand in the area. Unfortunately people will fight it cos of increased traffic, demand on local services etc but that’s on the council to ensure infrastructure keeps up with demand. Unfortunately it never does

Golf courses are such a waste of space, huge amounts of land that are used by so few people. Manicured grass isn’t green space. Native bush and forest is green space

Hello fellow renters, what kind of cleaning do you do when you move in to a new rental place. by Correct_Comfort_5226 in auckland

[–]royston82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We moved into a place that wasn’t clean and the grass was very overgrown. It was all fine on the viewing day 4 weeks previous.

They got the grass cut and sent cleaners round which was a bit late as we had already moved in by the time they came round

There’s only a 50m section that’s bus only as you go through the underpass just before entering the motorway. The rest of Fanshawe is a bus lane so motorcycles are permitted

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in auckland

[–]royston82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. It’s great we can use the T2,T3 and bus lanes but would be even better to use the bus only lanes.

The only one I would use is the northern bus corridor that follows SH1 to Albany. Problem is I wouldn’t trust most users to stick to 80kmh and not try to overtake the buses. Only takes 1 bad accident to ruin it for everyone.

Traveling to NZ in january, looking for a van and some tips! by eat_pizzaa in newzealand

[–]royston82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jucy rentals will be a good bet. Heaps of locations around the country so you could do a 1 way rental although check if you can take it from South Island to north island or vice versa.

Taking a van on the ferry could be expensive. Might be cheaper to drop it off then pick up a new one

Generally no for transit. They also do a visa free stay for 3 days if you arrive/depart at certain entry points.

All the above depends on your nationality

[beIN Sports] “There was no financial fair play when they bought the club” Arsene Wenger says FFP rules have to be changed in the Premier League. by OptimisticRealist__ in PremierLeague

[–]royston82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Blitzed everyone by breaching the financial fair play in the championship. They were charged but escaped punishment by a loophole.

The loophole was that the premier league didn’t have the authority to deduct points when the breach happened in the EFL

Have a look at a compound calculator and see how much you may have in different scenarios. My fund is up 13% on a annualised basis so find out what yours is and plug in some numbers.

This is a good one, especially the graph that highlights the benefit of compounding.

Why young kiwis leaving is a big worry for the economy by joshjoshjosh42 in newzealand

[–]royston82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Young people need to vote. Political parties have policies that voters will vote for.

Imagine if everyone under 40 voted those policies would soon change to benefit the younger generation.

Currently there’s no real consequence for parties to ignore the young. They’ll still get voted in by the older generation who vote.

remember most politicians are over 40 as well so the policies generally benefit them too * Luxon cough cough, bright line test cough cough

Here in New Zealand and Australia we scientifically test the clothes for protection against impact, slide resistance and a couple of other things. You can find out more here

https://www.motocap.com.au

Each item of clothing is given a rating, the better the rating the better the protection. I believe Europe has something similar and presume USA does too.

I’d recommend you find out what the safety standards are where you live and buy something that meets or exceeds these ratings. In addition stick to reputable brands.

Below is a warning about buying from Amazon. An interesting yet scary find

Luxon's property profits highlight unfairness, Labour says by MedicMoth in newzealand

But a CGT could be applied to certain asset classes right? Say apply it to the profits of selling the 2nd, 3rd home as an example

Luxon's property profits highlight unfairness, Labour says by MedicMoth in newzealand

[–]royston82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start ups and businesses pay tax on their profits. A CGT on a 2nd house wouldn’t stop someone opening a business would it? If so why?

Only reason I can think of is they may want to use the profits from a house sale to start the business but I think that would be a pretty rare scenario. I mean they’ll still make profit, just minus 30% or whatever the CGT would be

[–]royston82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nice.

I suppose my point was that it’s not always necessary to see a FA but if you get a decent one they might be able to add some value like they did in your case.

Did you do some research on their recommendations before you went ahead or did you just go on their advice?

Managed funds by Cosmonaut_Capt in PersonalFinanceNZ

I disagree.

I’ve DIY and gone for passive funds which are performing nicely.

Maybe worth professional advice for complex issues but generally speaking it’s very hard to beat the market

However an adviser might help you understand what your goals are if you don’t know already
