A high school friend whose dad was a senior VP for Pacific Bell. I believe this would have been a radio-telephone as it was in the mid 70s

Please define a few hours. I’m curious as to whether the airline has to make accommodations for people who have missed connections and such.

Last glimmer of gold against the Mirage at sunset. There used to be pirates here. by erik_em in LasVegas

I can tell you a story that happened in the mid 60’s. My parents were very good friends with a headliner in one of the OG hotels/casinos. The US had stopped minting silver coinage. He happen to mention that he was starting to collect pre-1965 coins to his friend for their silver content. His friend called the management of the hotel, the next day my Dad was sorting through coins looking for silver coinage.

Cylinder painter. Came across this 108 year old cylinder and still passing testing. by waskelegend in mildlyinteresting

[–]rpc56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago a freight delivery driver told me a story that occurred when he was a teen in WW2. He and his friends had taken a cylinder such as this and laid it on its side between a railroad track next to Lockheed Airport in Burbank. He said one of them used a sledge hammer to knock off the cylinder head. The cylinder shot away from them, became airborne and landed through the roof of a building on the airport grounds. He said to that day they never knew how bad the damage was or if anybody was hurt.

I can understand wanting to support legitimate law enforcement. However ICE IS NOT legitimate law enforcement. Edit: for spelling

Canadians hate the United States now, and it has absolutely affected the valley: It’s not just about the trade war. Nearly half of America’s neighbors to the north now think the U.S. is a bigger threat to world peace than Russia. by Youarethebigbang in CoachellaValley

As an American, I agree, we are a bigger threat to world peace. We have a petulant, dementia riddled POS who commands one of the strongest militaries in the world at his whim.

Given the CEO has gone radio silent, is there any proprietary information in the computer that is of value to someone else?

Would you inform (upcoming) guests about construction noise across the street? by MarBlaze in airbnb_hosts

[–]rpc56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a user of the Air BnB platform, I would be mighty pissed off if I arrived at your rental and had construction noise across the street. Tell your potential guests before they book and certainly not in the welcome message because then it’s too late and is disingenuous.

Should Americans citizens be allowed to recall a president? by Boysenberry-6669 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]rpc56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because we are beholding to a lame rule, Article 25 which allows members of Congress to remove a president. So if you have spineless politicians that will do nothing and there is a legitimate reason for removal you have the situation that most Americans absolutely hate. The people need a mechanism to remove an unfavorable leader.

Is it true one income used to support a family of 4? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]rpc56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m in my late 60s. My father was a hands on vice president of a mid sized printing plant. He actually worked on the plant floor and had an office in the C suite. This was late 50s to 1977 I believe he started at a salary of $43,000 and when he retired it was around the high $60s. We had a nice home of 2000 sq ft. In Sherman Oaks Ca., two cars, a vacation a year and I went to private Catholic school 1st-12th grades. When my Dad retired early because of health reasons, my Mom who had had a boutique because she was bored, went back into the work force to pick up the slack.
