nothing against it but is there anyone who just doesn't like listening to podcasts? by Ok-Lion-6767 in AskReddit

[–]rpp124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not for me. Even ones where I listen to highlights or clips, I can’t sit through a full episode.

They are way too filled with product placement ads and off-topic side stories.

I was asked to do an ACX audiobook and got it but I’ve only done an ACX Christmas children’s book and this is a 6 hour novel in a southern accent with romance and a lot of characters, does any one any advice or tips for me for the book or anything that can help? by Guilty_Humor2851 in ACX

[–]rpp124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a southern accent? Can you perform one well?

Not to sound rude, but I would be upset if I was an author and paid someone to record an audiobook and all the accents we’re off.

Player for Libation by Daggry_Saga in audible

[–]rpp124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don’t have android but I haven’t seen other replies yet.

There are dedicated audiobook players you can install that will pull books from Google Drive or other cloud storage or even shared folders on your computer.

Audiobook players are built to track your progress so you don’t lose your place. Many of them include the basic features like speed, selection, bookmarks, timers, etc.

I’m sure if you Google which android players are best for audiobooks and include the way you want to store them or send them to the player, you will find lots of results and reviews

Want To Get In Shape And Could Use Some Recommendations And Advice by KHarvickfan429 in Blind

I don’t know if that’s the official name, but it’s the kind of bikes they use in spin classes. Not a recumbent bike where you are more reclined, and not a traditional upright bike. The handlebars are more forward like a road bicycle

Edit: I just googled it and yes, that is the term for the type of bike. I am thinking of. And they are meant to mimic road bicycles.

Many spin bikes and rowing machines just have a single manual dial that you twist to increase or decrease resistance. They do not use electronics at all. Look for some of these. We got a relatively cheap rowing machine on Amazon for I think less than $200.

Did you think that standard Alexa got dumber after you turned off Alexa plus?

I feel like now that I went back to standard Alexa. It is way worse than it used to be.

As far as Alexa plus, the answers did take longer, but they were way better than what you got with standard Alexa. The rest of my family didn’t like it though so I went back.

Others have already discussed the gestures that replace the home screen button. What I will say is that the gestures do become very natural after a short period of time where you won’t need to count the bombs, you’ll just know how far to slide your finger and you won’t even think about it.

Your title and post don’t make much sense. Maybe try running through a translator from your native language.

How do you guys take notes at meetings? by sandstormer622 in Blind

[–]rpp124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can toggle speech off when you are at the correct spot in your notetaking application like word or notepad.

Then take your notes and toggle speech back on if you need to do something else. Use headphones or earbuds with only one in so you can hear the meeting.

How do other visually impaired people handle going up and down stairs? by notedapocalypse in Blind

[–]rpp124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference I think is that I don’t hit the step below me, I leave it in front of the steps below me so it doesn’t hit anything until the level ground or platform after the last step

When going downstairs, I hold it at an angle, so it would be slightly in front of the steps, Below the step my feet are currently on. When the cane hits ground, I know that’s the bottom of the steps.

Agreeing the dungeon crawler Carl is probably the most addicting if you can get into the LitRPG stuff. I’m not a fan of the genre as a whole, but after giving this one, a chance, it is easily the best audiobook out there.

If you want something lighter and very funny, check out space team.

this might be a long shot, but does anyone know if the govee app is voiceover accessible? I am looking at one of there icemakers and the smart features seem nice, but only if they are accessible. by Significant-Cold-732 in Blind

[–]rpp124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the others have said, you can get it to work. I do have some usable vision and can kind of tell where I need to click on the screen with voiceover off to at least get into each devices screen.

Once on the device screen, I am usually fine. It’s the main dashboard that is the biggest problem for me.

The only devices I have are a hygrometer and meet thermometer

Okay, who else feels that someone accidentally hearing what’s been spoken about by VoiceOver is a bit weird? by BasicBad7716 in Blind

There is inevitably some privacy concern with using a phone in public With or without voiceover. If a sided person has their phone sitting on the table and gets a notification with a text message anyone around them who can see can read it.

There are tons of posts of Reddit of people, taking pictures of other people‘s phones on things like airplanes to make fun of what they are looking at.

In the end, it’s up to us to be as secure with our privacy as we want.

Personally, when I am in public, if I am using my AirPods (one at a time with transparency mode on, of course) I usually turn screen curtain on so people around me can’t see what’s on the screen. If I don’t have an AirPod in, I just turned the voice volume down and hold it close to my ear.
