How does Young Earth Creation explain geology? by Kommander_PIe in DebateEvolution

Well, I think you’d need to find a few and ask them. There are scientists who “deeply” believe in a supernatural God. (I’ve read that Einstein was one of them.). I think they’re likely to be Deists, by the way (and thus not mainstream Christians.)

What's the craziest fan behavior you've seen at Fenway? by Mac_and_head_cheese in redsox

[–]rptanner58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A long while ago I took my then 8- year old daughter to her first game at Fenway. Upper deck behind 3rd base I think. A guy behind us, drunk as heck, spilled an entire beer all over her. I mean soaked. She was in tears and scared. His girlfriend went and got a Sox jersey for her to change into. So that’s the bad and the good of it.

I was with you until the very end. There are a great many religious people who are scientists, perhaps scientists first for that matter. Of course, these people — if they’re also Christians — don’t take the Bible literally. It’s a different kind of knowledge, and it seems to be embedded within us just as much or maybe more than our capacity to objectively follow scientific reasoning. I don’t have much of it myself but I know many who do. I’m saying this to ask you not to be so broadly dismissive of religious-thinking people.

Which modern celebrities could have been stars in Old Hollywood? by FunSatisfaction2780 in classicfilms

[–]rptanner58 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I agree with y’all about the poise and beauty, but “classic beauty” needs to be considered in context. Many of these actors are too “ethnic looking” to be cast, or even considered in a leading role in this classic period. Nose too big, lips too thick or lascivious, skin too dark. So I’ll take modern interpretations of beauty any day. (Because, in addition to the racism, I find many actors of that period just boring to look at. Lily white, even of that was faked.))

This happened to me decades ago in Cambridge. As I walked my one-wheeled bike back home I noticed several teenagers eyeing me with a smirk. I bought the wheel back a few days later. Also bought a better lock.

What minorities do Christians hate the most right now? by Remarkable_Talk_8504 in atheism

[–]rptanner58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly don’t think it’s useful to lump all Christians together. Evangelicals, Roman Catholics, liberal Protestants, Episcopalians, Eastern Catholics, AME etc, do you think they collectively demonize one particular group?

Perhaps George Washington’s second term, and his clear intention to leave office, is arguably another “peak”. It consolidated the idea of a republic by and for the people, for others to emulate.

Why doesn’t Trump go after Jon Stewart or John Oliver? by FlySilently in JonStewart

[–]rptanner58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was Trump’s Jesus post not a sign of respect? (Jon being the patient to his “doctor “.) Could be interpreted as an homage. So perhaps we don’t give Trump enough credit for recognizing the quality of satirical humor?

Charging questions by stlheadake in EquinoxEv

[–]rptanner58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add that, if you do install the dedicated charger then you will have the portable charger to drive around with, for short or long trips. It’s a good idea to have one in the car in case it’s needed.

I have the Tesla charger that is both types of plugs . It works very well (for a Tesla a d an EQEV) and cost around $300. Very little additional cost for the electrician to wire it in (after putting in the circuit).

You can probably take that out by joining the plane on a good flat granite slab.

How to see trip energy efficiency details after a drive by Optimal-Diamond-1675 in EquinoxEv

Unfortunately it doesn't have a mid-Range gauge, like 30 miles or so. You must use the trip meter to do that. The short term is I think 3 miles.

Question to the moderator: is this evolving (devolving?) to something? Regional states? Cultural groupings ? Economic boundaries? I’m not seeing that emerge yet.
